sorry if im wrong, but this sounds like the video thats on the starcraft CD as a trailer, i cant see videos on my computer (dial up), so im not sure, but if it shows the wanderer dropping it on a muddy road during a storm i think im right, this was most likely scrapped because we know in diablo 2 the wanderer still has the stone

My LOD CD exploded the day before the nocd patch, and took my DVD drive with it....
btw: i think apparantly (these words used to keep myself outta trouble)
A soulstone is only a primevil's key to existing / manifesting in the 'real' world (sanctuary)
A number of plot devices could be used to bring him back.
When you killed mr.d all you saw was his spirit rise (back beyond the seals of his sanctum?)
and some loot (which did nothing for me, every single time).
In diablo I it was a corrupt wizard/sorcerer who was possesed by diablo.
He can always do that again.
interesting fact, which you should all post: most amount of times killed by diablo: 27. least? i dunno, maybe 16?
Looks to me it was a piece of it not the whole thing. He had a full thing in his hand then on the ground seemed a just a piece of what he had in his hand

or, the wanderer in diablo is not the same wanderer, maybe it's the person who got it from the road and the real dark wanderer is still alive (spaculations)

Soulstones: Mystical stone who can imprison the soul of a person/demon if incrusted in the body. ( i made that myself but thats mostly what the story tell us)
Yes it is destroyed, you see it in the ending cinematic of Diablo 2 (not LOD)
BUT there is another soulstone, the dark wanderer drops at the end of the Diablo 2 trailer.
Yes, the other soulstone is Baal's. Diablo's is red, Mephisto's was blue and Baal's was yellow. Baal's soulstone was split during the battle of the horadrim, and a large piece of it was put in Tal'rasha. It isn't known whether or not we destroyed the fragment you see in the video so theoretically Baal could still return.
Diablo III could take place during the Sin Wars or after the Worldstone was destroyed since nobody really knows what happens afterwards. Supposedly the destruction of the worldstone will allow heaven and hell to cross into Sanctuary, so that would make a good setting for D3 (This also supports the previous ''insider'' testimony that D3 would be a battle of heaven vs hell). However there is currently also a civil war going on in hell between Belial and Azmodan so IDK.
In the Diablo series, we learn that the three Prime Evils were kicked out of hell by the Lesser Evils. Now, most of you are probably thinking that Diablo and friends were roaming the mortal world with actual bodies. However, this is not the case. When they were kicked out, they lingered on the mortal plane as spirits, more or less due to the fact that the Worldstone doesn't allow them to enter the mortal world. The worldstone dictates that as long as it stands, the forces of Heaven and Hell cannot envelop the Earth.
The Prime Evils lingered as spirts, and influenced mortals. It wasn't until the Horadrim sealed them away in the Soulstones that they were truly trapped and gone. However, they were still able to possess people. Mostly, the ones with a weaker will. Lazarus was the first, and by his corruption, Diablos Soulstone was shattered (But not destroyed), and Diablo was free. However, Diablos essence was still tied to that Soulstone. He could not physically manifest himself on the mortal realm if it did not exist.
When the Hero in the first game killed Diablo, his spirit could not return to hell because of the Soulstone. As per the novels, a demon cannot truly be killed, only sent back to where he came from. Diablo was trapped on Earth, and had to exert himself over the Hero as well to return to power.
At the end of Diablo 2, when we kill Diablo, and shatter his soulstone, we remove the thing which ties him to us. Without the Soulstone, he can only exist in Hell.
HOWEVER. The Worldstone. The worldstone served as a barricade for the agents of Heaven and Hell. As long as it exists, no one of the two sides can intervene on Earth (Unless by other powerful magics, of course.). Tyrael destroys the Worldstone because it is the only way. The corrupted worldstone that Baal had created would have simply allowed the demons of hell to spill forth on the Mortal plane. The difference being that the Heavens would not be able to help the Mortals. With the Worldstone shattered, Tyrael is basically setting in motion the second Sin War. Which is probably what the third game will follow...
ALSO: Without the Worldstone, Diablo and the other Prime Evils can go between Earth and Hell at will. They are no longer dependant on the soulstone: For Diablo, this means that his character will be missing and iconic detail. I'm thinking it's entirely possible he's changed his look to accomodate.
... Okay, wow. That was longer than I thought it would be. Er... So... Yeah. My knowledge of the games lore isn't entirely correct, so I'm sure a few things I mentioned are off... But, that's my theory as it stands.
TL;DR version: Diablo doesn't need his Soulstone anymore because the worldstone was destoyed, and that lets him and the other prime evils enter the Mortal world at will. The agents of heaven can do so as well. Diablo 3 will probably focus on a second Sin War.
True, never really hinted at what happened to Tal Rasha as well, Did Baal destroy him or is he corrupt or what happened.
Ahh I totally forgot about that, yeah what did become of Tal Rasha if it explained it anywhere.. and those who are going to watch the WWI Live coverage have a chatroom up or something like AIM or IRC? I'd like to join if possible.

I swear to god, if Blizzard ever wants some QA testing done for their website, they can just put up one of these teasers.

I wouldn't think so.

Can you please not intrude in the clarification of this nuisance?
kthx
How about this for on topic..
diablo, ice, eyes, pentagram, head, douche, penguin, purple, vikings, OMG!
My point is that there is not much ELSE to talk about until Blizzard buckles.
i think its made by the angelic forces to give magical forces to the world, but it could just be a naturally funky rock spire
