"OH MY GOD, THAT THING JUST BIT OFF THE BARBARIANS HEAD!!" is basically all I remember thinking from the first gameplay trailer. That several second snippet of badassery (Thanks to the Siegebreaker Assault Beast) had me pumped already. That, combined with how he smashed through a wall to trample all four heroes, made me anticipate fighting that boss once Diablo III rolled around.
But I never really took the time to consider: if mini-bosses such as the Siegebreaker Assault Beast had such amazing scripts and finishing moves, what would other bosses have? Well, Blizzard has somewhat answered the question, making good use of their twitter page once more.
Official Blizzard Quote:
Diablo: Act II boss encounter going through a lot of concepting and prototype testing.
Now, assuming the first act was where the Siegebreaker appeared, and also taking the various precedents set by Diablo II, we can pretty safely assume that the act two boss encounter will blow our faces off.
Why, you may ask? Well, I'll tell you...
First off, back in Diablo II, it seemed bosses got more and more epic as the game progressed. First, we started off fighting the lesser evils (Andariel and Duriel), then moved onto the primes, being Mephisto, Diablo, and finally Baal.
Second, it seems that mini-bosses (The Siegebreaker Assault Beast, and Thousand Pounder) have some fairly intense scripting effects, and combat behavior. As I've already pointed out, the Siegebreaker ripped the head off one of the heroes, which definitely qualifies as awesome in my books. Lets not forget the way the Thousand Pounder was summoned, which blew up every one of the cultists in the process. Basically, if mini-bosses have top-notch effects, then the actual end of act bosses will be that much more impressive.
Third, simply because it's a boss. Bosses will really give Blizzard a chance to showcase what is capable with their new engine, and their experience with the past two games. Once more, if the two bosses from the first gameplay trailer are anything to base our judgments on, then Blizzard will really pull out all the stops to make sure each boss encounter is unique, and memorable.
Anywho, what does everyone think we'll be getting for scripts and the like this time around? Maybe will the boss burst through the floor, and swallow us? Or will it materialize out of thin air, and proceed to rip our arms off?
The possibilities are pretty much endless.

They said the Siegebreaker is kind of a mini-boss in several interviews at WWI.
Belial is just a guess, but heaps of evidence indicate that it's actually Diablo in some form or another. Belial is still a possibility for one of the other act's bosses, though.
I vote for mortal Kombat type of deaths....Fatalities...
If you have a human(hero)-sized boss, imagine how cool, it would be if he/she did a SubZero fatality.
Thrusting hand(claw) through your back and pulling out the spine with skull attached... Zat would be beautiful.
I think it'd be cool if the boss could rip a character in half.
Like the Spider Lady, queen of pain or whatever, if she could gore the upper and lower half of a player's abdomen then rip them straight in half. That'd be tight.
I remember not noticing the biting of the head. Then someone pointed it out and I rewatched it and I was like, holy shit. Lol.
But yea, the Assault Siege Breaker is a mini boss? I thought he was a boss-boss. o.O Hmm.
I didn't notice at first either, and I watched it a couple more times looking for interesting things, and I noticed that Snatch->Grabbed->Bite->Barb Scream->Ripped off head and blood shot out, and the Siege Best threw the corpse to the ground...
I thought it was wicked sick! I loved it.
I'm actually going to go watch it again...right now..

I was just looking at my desktop rotation and it had the mistress of pain on there. Made me think of Astrogah (sp?) from the Sin War novel; hiding in the dark, using little spiders to kill victims...I think something like that would be cool for her. Maybe hiding in the shadows she can't be hit and becomes somewhat invisible (except for maybe eyes or something). I can see a room of skeletons, corpses, and spiderwebs everywhere as her lair. Anyways, just saw the art and thought of that.
Besides that, I hope they stick to their promise on making bosses more interesting to fight and beyond that it would be really awesome if they somehow changed as difficulty ramped up (for ex act 1 norm boss uses attacks a, b, c act 1 NM boss uses attacks d,e,f and so on...)
That's what I took away from that video too, the barb's head being bitten off. Amazing! Just that little bit puts the rainbows, unicorns, and carebears case to rest for me. Its so much more graphic and gory than anything that was possible in D2.
They're doing a great job with D3, I think, and I expect this act II boss will be even more impressive than the spinebreaker assault beast - even though its making my brain hurt to try and imagine what that would mean!
Since they have stated that they are such big fans of God of War I would expect nothing less than some type of unique finishing move after you've "killed" the boss.
For example... you fight the boss until its last sliver of health using whatever skills you've invested in. Once the boss reaches its last sliver of health it falls over, weakened. You approach the injured body of the boss and 4 runes appear around the body.. you click them in quick succession and your character does some wicked scripted finishing move.
If they haven't thought about doing that yet, hopefully they read this thread and start thinking about it now! Have you seen the GOW III gameplay demo? If that isn't inspiration... I don't know what is! Maybe it doesn't just have to be a finishing move.. but there could be scripted events that you can trigger at certain moments during the fight, too.
as cool as that would sound, they have been saying they want to keep people in the flow of the game, keep things fast paced and (brutal, fun).
but think about it, if you had to keep an eye on the boss' hp to know when to expect to do some trivial clicking game it would pull you out of whatever intense frenzy a person could get worked up into while fighting a fearsom foe.. my two cents,
oh, and as far as a sweet boss fight starter would be maybe:
(player) walking through the dungeon/zone there have been a few tremors and even evidence of a few fallen columns, or hallways that have collapsed, but while crossing a room the floor (the Whole floor) collapses out from under you and you fall down into a much larger room with lots of debris (like the floor that fell with you) only to land ontop of (it::boss) or possibly on the hoard of treasure items you were seeking only to find that now to escape you've got to run past or kill a gigantic (thing::things).
imo, i like pitfalls and such, but an entire unstable room would be cool!

That's probably already in there somewhere, a la Zelda.
I remember my friend complaining about the Seige beast one hit killing the barb, and I was like it probably wasn't a one hit kill, but it WAS hilarious.

how about your in an outside area, sparse trees, rocks, nature. so to initiate the fight, or bring your attention to the angry thing that doesnt want you alive, you notice large rocks/small boulders just "Landing" near by, maybe one hits a tree and bark flys, or smooshes nicely in soft mud leaving a pothole as it continues it's ballistic course, or maybe the wagon your escourting from wherever to wherever else has a large tree thrown through the side, or perhaps a moose or deer is thrown AT you by said monster, leaving a pile of moose carnage where it lands (ever seen someone hit by a car and roll 20 feet? their arms kinda flail around, now imagine an 800 lb animal doing that and bouncing into a tree, or you!
but for a finnisher from a large boss that would be doing these maybe it gets tired of your crap and throws You into a tree, or maybe a ditch followed by a boulder.. or into a boulder leaving a nice large blood splotch on it from where your head/body impacted and didnt react well.
Why yes, id like several waves of a douzen crazy spiders to come from all sides of a moist cave and form the armor of one of the bosses who controls the hive mind of the insects. The boss is to be only volnuerable to attack when all the spiders come bursting off flyig at you eating your armor and your weapons gushing into your mouth and using your body as a cacoon to breed more spiders as the rest of your party still tries to fight him off. Act three perhaps?

At first, I was like, uhhhhh. But after thinking about it for a few seconds, it'd definitely be awesome to have an insect boss that, when it kills one of your party, MORE insects spawn from that one dead person. That would make it challenging and create an added bonus to not dying. That's almost like zombie style. xD

Now wait a minute, spiders aren't insects. They're arachnids

I'm all for some really hardcore looking ways to die in DIII, the gorier the better.
It's just better than going ragdoll and hearing your character scream, or just having the same death animation over and over (a la DII).
