How can you say an archer wouldn't work because it is ranged. Look at the wizard and WD. they are ranged characters. It is the same concept but with magic instead of mel?e. Yes the wizard has some close range abilities but the class is designed for range. The ranged mel?e class will probably be the same. A few close range attacks but primarily ranged.

Considering the combination archer/summoner, we pretty much had something similar with the Amazon! She could summon the Valkyrie and the decoy! Something like that could work in Diablo III! That's just my opinion!
Jesus finally sombody gets what i have been saying about the archer character. He can be an archer/summoner just because he can summon a pet or two doesnt mean hes the new summoner class.

Well enemies in the diablo games arent know to have the best intelligence. I mean when you made a decoy in d2 the monsters came for it instead of you so it would probably work like this in d2. When monsters get too smart its just a hassle to fight them.

Well i get what you're saying but i still wouldent mind seeing a bow oriented class in D3 in fact i hope thats the 5th class. I swear if the 5th class is something random im having a fit.

I am split on what the last class would be.
Logically the game would HAVE to have this archetype for a ranged physical dps, but to leave it to be the last class announced would be odd.
Leaving a class last to be announced would imply there would be some mystery, some unknown about what the class is.
So by leaving this last class unknown, and leaving the ranged dps archetype empty would imply that the last class is a ranged dps.
However this would not be very surprising if it were, nor does it fit the purpose of leaving the last class unknown. Because it really was a ranged dps type class, it would be too obviously and would not live to the "hype" of the mysterious last class.
Also having stated that the barbarian is the ONLY class returning to D2, we can be safe it is not the Amazon, nor anything too similar to the Amazon. This is because the original barbarian was in fact not called a barbarian, it was called something else, but because it was so similar to the barbarian, everyone on the Blizz team started calling it the Barb, and then the name got switched over.
So I perhaps blizzard will let us all down, and make us say "told you so", and give us a plain old Amazon type clone that fills the ranged dps class, or perhaps they will suprise us with something totally differnt.
Perhaps with an additional class in adition to the ranged dps???
Yea thats the basic rule for ranged characters, just stay at a distance.

I'd like to see them take a cursed enemy from Diablo II and make it into a 'regular' non-cursed regular character. And the enemies from the abandoned city in Act III would be a good place to start.

Watching 240 guys talk trash about cavaliers is like two retards having a slapfight over a sippy cup.

the majority, I'd say, agrees on the 5th class being a ranger / rogue / hunter bow-shooting class.
in general, a physical attack ranged class is fine with me. but I'd really like to see one with an interesting twitch - not the "standard elf-like bow shooter guy". some ideas:
* Mongol archer - attila the hut kind of guy with according armor etc.
* blow tube Inka shooter (although already somewhat covered by WD)
* native American "can i haz scalps"-guy
* ...
Some great ideas there. :thumbsup: It's Attila the Hun though. An apache hunter or a derivative Inca priest would be an awesome addition in my opinion.
Yea we do need a native american/indian character, somebodys gotta represent.

Well its not like he has to be a real native american. For example the sorc in D2 was latino/hispanic looking, i would bet on puerto rican.

hmm, why can't it be an archer that can do melee when it comes down to it?
he can fire his arrows like crazy, and then whip out his daggers and still be kick-ass at them. he can dance around with his daggers and kill everything nearby before resuming with the bow... maybe his specialty is that he can switch between weapons quickly (don't know if that's implemented as default for d3 yet)
a cross between a ninja and a scout would be interesting as well
or a brute archer... so he's an archer but not as fragile as the monk, can take a beating
As for the final class, I am confident it has something to do with bows (duh?!). But, lol, as I was talking with Necronergal the other night (before the Mon was released), we were fantasizing about what the new ranged class could be. And I made the suggestion that it was some form of a "Weapons Master", where they were talented with using lots of weapons at once and in unison with perfect combos. So they weren't a brute force of strength (Barb), and didn't rely on being unarmed and still bulky (Monk), but did not use pure magic and summons (With Doctor and Wizard). However being a master of weapons, it could allow her (yes, I am going out right here and now, that this last class will be canon-female) the old ability of "throwing a weapon" but not in the lame and unjustified manner they did in D2.
I have a similar concept about the class.

I wouldn't mind a mix of a ranger type class along with a shapeshifting class like the druid.
It would be pretty cool having one skill tree having to do with ranged abilities using a bow and arrow, another tree having to do with shapeshifting skills for melee and another unknown tree maybe having to do with summoning or passive abilities of some sort. It would sorta be like the amazon of d2, being a hybrid with the melee javazon or ranged bowazon.
Thought about this as well. At 1st I thought it'd be cool if the person isn't human, or is half-human/half-demon, and he/she can fight with ranged weapons and then shapeshift to fight when the demons have closed in... but then i had a thought about how this class would play differently. What if he can absorb the weapons, and...not actually carry them? the weapons become part of him, and it really depends on which item is needed when. So maybe this character can use everything he has in the inventory, hence the quick switching of weapons i mentioned earlier. How that is done is up to blizzard. Maybe he can access up to 7 of them at once, one for every hotkey they have in the game. Or the skills can allow for multiple weapons to be wielded at once, say this guy can shoot arrows while fighting melee. Obviously he has to be nerfed in certain ways, like make him fragile, or that he slows down as he weilds more weapons.

Thats basically a rogue/ranger type of character.

yea, in a sense yes, but more towards the 'Weapons Master' as Ullion suggested in page 1. A character who's about the weapons and using them. Because we have 2 mages, a barbarian who's about taking and making damage, and a fast-paced, fragile monk who's about his cool skills... the last one could be able how his/her skills work in sync with the weapons. It's just a different take on the traditional archer/ranger/scout/assassin archetypes.
