So like i heard the 58xx series of AMD will be purely owning the Nvidia GT300 series. But what i wanna know because the 58xx pricing is somewhat high and will only lower about 100 bucks once the GT300 series comes out would it be better to buy a 5870x2 for say 500 or get 2 4870x2's and run those babes in Xfire. The 4870x2's by that time should be around 200 maybe if you somehowfind a rel bargain 150 each. So i was wondering would the extra 100 bucks really be worth getting i mean of course ou get shader 5.1 DX11 all that good stuff eyefinity but is it really worth it?...wowuld a 487x2 run in Xfire be able to run all that stuff just as well or would they not even be compatable with it.

I think two 4870x2's in Crossfire would be more bang for your buck. Although.. wait for the reviews on the 58xx series and see if they are better or if DX11 is worth it.
Yes but don't expect to get decent frames at native resolution while playing any modern games.. you'll have to go down to 1280x1024 to get decent performance. That or 1680x1050 on Low settings, which isn't worth it.

Really? That's too bad. Even if I upgraded monitors I'd have to go back down to the native resolution of the one I own right now (17" acer, I really wanted to upgrade). Oh well I suppose I'll have to upgrade both at some point then.
One more question then.
Could you use an nvidia graphics card on a motherboard that has built in ati graphics? Would you just disable onboard graphics and use the card and it would work fine?
I figure if I end up having to buy a new graphics card I would put mine in my parents PC.
Thanks again.

Yeah, you SHOULD be able to disable the onboard video in the BIOS. Depending on how cheap your mobo is will determine how well the BIOS is built. Buy yeah, that should work fine.

Alright. Thanks.
If I have to get a beast of a card simply to use a better monitor, I most likely will just stick with my current setup. I don't want to have to spend 300-400 when I was only planning on buying a monitor for about 200.
Thanks for the info though, it is good to know. It may have saved me time and money.

You don't have to spend 300-400 on a card. Just get something with 1gb of 256-bit gddr5 vram and you should be fine.
edit: just realized you meant spending 300-400 dollars total. oh well, something to consider anyway.
Sorry about that I should have specified. When I said 300-400 I meant the combined cost of monitor and card.
I know GPUs aren't as much as they used to be, I still don't want to spend that much though.
Maybe the prices will drop further in the next 2 years.
I'm not a huge gamer, I tend to be picky about what I like to play, so I don't feel comfortable paying hundreds to play one game. I may upgrade in the future though.

Stay awhile, and listen.
But i think i would rather buy a 5800 series rather then two 4870x2
Heres a link that shows nvidia is confident that they have the 5800 series beat

would my current graphics card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130356 be able to support this monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236049 ?
Thanks for any help.

By technology and specs (if the rumored gt300 info is to be trusted) ati is slightly ahead in this salvo of the graphics card war.

1gb gddr5 cards.. no more than $200 for any of them
You can even get some sweet 1792mb vram GTX 260 and 275s for 225-270$
