Trang'oul is the essence of the heavens itself in "physical" form, existing in all time-lines simultainiously; where as Diablo, who is considered a "greater demon", was ousted by a band of lesser ones. The three "prime" evils themselves actually don't live in hell, but a lesser version of their own.
So can he? yes. would he? never. Trang'oul exists as a mediator between both evil and good, to defeat one, who would have to see the opposing faction lose one just as great.
Trang'oul is the keeper of the "scales" after all.
(read the sin war novels for more tasty Trang'oul info.)
But you see there's the little problem that Diablo can't seem to stay dead.
Also as other people have pointed out, Trag'Oul wouldn't do it, because he has to maintain balance. He would probably just keep sending Big D back home each time he came to assault his place of existence, wherever that is.
yaa see diablo will always come back. maybe next time some guy will summon him. trag oul is a dragon dat got sum rep on his shoulders. so like maybe the dragon will come back. but diablo always comes back stronger. and he gonna cut dat dragon up pretty
Dunno. Do world gaurdians destroy things? I thought they only protected their worlds. I don't think Trag'Oul would do it. That's why he has Necromancers as followers- they're his hands in keeping balance. Does he have the power to do so? Maybe. I'd lean towards yes, but then again, his power might have limitations I don't know about. Would he? I don't think so. If he could, he wouldn't have needed to bother with adherents.
I thought was because their original intention was to have the Necromancers leader as a blood lord type vampire and called him Trang Oul, but then they changed it and so created a new name Trag'Oul and added all the 'World Dragon' and 'The Balance' lore in through the novels
Unless they mentioned a World Dragon when D2 was first released
This was written into the Arreat Summit... I honestly have no reason why they would change the name then
Teeth One of the first gifts of Rathma, this skill allows the Necromancer to summon forth the Den'Trang, or Teeth of the Dragon Trang'Oul. The Necromancers believe that Trang'Oul is the beast on whose back the world lies. In the balance of all things, it is thought that Trang'Oul is the fulcrum point. He is the closest thing the cult of Rathma has to a deity and this spell is the manner in which he protects his chosen.
Bone Spear
Also known as the Talon of Trang'Oul, this spell summons a long shaft of bone issuing forth from the caster and piercing any opponents in its path.
Perhaps Trag'Oul plays a part in Diablo 3 and they wanted to avoid confusion... Just imagine people would be going "Dude.. Isnt Trang Oul that Vampire dude... dude?"... "Now hes a dragon? wtfbbq?"
Instead of renaming Trang Oul to Trag'Oul, they should of renamed the set Trang Oul to something else like... "Dark Lords Fang"

if it's trag'oul then why is the set in d2 called trang'oul
Trag'oul is a dragon, not a vampire. The set just makes you appear to look like a vampire, which is kinda what happens to the followers of the Balance, they become very pale and lose most of their emotions, wearing black robes, etc etc.
Anyway if Trag'oul were able to enter Sanctuary I'm sure he would be able to defeat Diablo. Though the other Guardians would never allow him to enter the mortal realm.
It's not even a question. Can a single necromancer defeat Diablo? Yes. Can Trag'Oul? Duh.
This is truth, in the past Diablo games a random adventurer game and wtfpwned Diablo (though it said it was a group in the D3 website) and the other two Prime Evils. If a mere mortal can single handedly defeat the forces of Hell and its masters, then an ancient world guardian can totally do it.
The question is will he? I would say probally not. Trag'Oul and his followers are dedicated to maintain the balance between Evil and Good. If Evil is losing, then the necros will fight for them, or vice versa as is seen through Diablo series.
is trang' oul even real then? or is he some sort of necro religion thing? because i doubt sanctuary lies on some beasts back. (theres some ancient latin or african religion that is similar to this, forgot it though)
and does anyone think that the description for bone spear is a bit naughty?

actually i read all the sin wars trilogy a few days ago. the dragon did act and materialized himself to the mortal plane. he had only done this once before to get rathma to follow his teachings. but he materialized the second time because he could no longer shield the sanctuary's location no longer from the angelic council. and act to DEFEND it. so i beleive if diablo were to destroy sanctuary and all else was loss than i would think that trang oul would act. as far as him winning? well trang oul was born of the creation of the world. so i would thing maybe he gets a bonus on home court?
Yeah, he's definitely real. He appears in The Sin War trilogy as a bunch of stars that kind of look like a scaley dragon. If you look closely at those individual scales you would see glimpses of everyone's past, future and present.

Exactly. The others won't let him (unless its like a really special circumstance). But if Diablo were to enter Trag's own realm, Diablo would lose. Trag would say some epic line and then bam, Diablo is kicked out and heavily wounded.
Also note that Heaven and Hell don't know Trag exists! The other guardians won't let Trag reveal himself, or else it puts them all at risk. He would certainly be revealing himself if he went to the mortal realm.
Hmm... to bounce off that idea of the guardians revealing themselves, what if we got to see some in D3 ?
I mean, pretty much both Heaven and Hell are out to get Sanctuary right now, so what if the Guardians stepped in to help save our asses in the game ?
Would be quite interesting to see how Blizzard imagined them, I've been wanting to see Trang for quite a long time now ^^.

Would be a pretty good fight though, I'd love to see that on pay per view.
Although I agree with that
And technically it's Trag'Oul, not Trang Oul

Trag'Oul is powerful, no doubt.
