As I was playing through Diablo singleplayer today, I noticed that I never got the King Leoric quest. Is this not a mandatory quest? Any explanations for why this is happening?
Okay thanks guys. Weird, I could have sworn that Leoric wasn't randomized. And to think, I call myself a Diabo fan!
Considering how important Leoric is to the story, with Albrecht and Lazarus, it actually is kind of surprising it wasn't a non-randomized quest. Imagine playing D1 all the way through without the Leoric quest, then to play a second time and getting to kill him and hearing your character say to him, "....I'll find your son." You'd feel a little cheated, yes?
You can still get the whole plot pretty good through NPC dialogue and the books found in the labyrinth, but encountering King Leoric on the way to Albrecht definitely adds intrigue to the story. And Leoric's story is supposed to be really sad and tragic. A once very noble king who was corrupted by Diablo and ultimately ended up as an undead servant-great stuff.
That's a sad affair right there. I played through Diablo all the way at least twenty times and must've had King Leoric in my game at least ten. At least!
Its a fun/shit your pants fight. Jesus that sword of his does some good damage and knockback or something. Too bad he has a mace or whatever that is in D3 instead of his 2h sword.

Well, given the randomness of the quest system, two games isn't going to give you a high probability of getting one particular quest every time.
(You've got a 50% chance of getting Leoric in a game.*)
You can play two games and not get the Butcher, either.
(67% chance of getting the Butcher.*)

Mm hmm.
I know we all talk about how scary the fight with The Butcher is, but I've always felt the one with King Leoric was totally underrated among hardcore fans. Just his taunt upon entering the tomb totally had me quaking in my bug boots.
I agree, to me the Butcher was a shit your pants fight, but Leoric was more like Shit your pants grab the kids and run like hell.

Yeah, now that I think about, the King Leoric fight was just as scary if not more scary than the Butcher. The fact that he could revive his minions made the possibility of getting swarmed so much more possible than with the other bosses. In fact, I'd say just about every boss fight was very tense. Zhar the Mad included haha.
Omg when i fought the Warlord of Blood, i was basically pissing myself. His speech plus what everyone says about him makes you think ah fuck im gonna die for sure.

Yes siree, god willing Diablo 3 will be able to replicate that feeling with its bosses.
The Skeleton King was my second favorite quest. It's best accompanied by Gothic Metal...
I always get the tainted well quest, I've only gotten the SK quest about... five times since I started replaying it. Where I find the patience, I have no clue...

Ah, that explains my confusion.
Those random quests really makes the game fresh. Hope D3 have those.
D3 WILL have those!

I'd be upset if I didn't get him in my game.
