Not sure if people character's are being down-rated because of specs as well?
Remember, the system ranks you on a balance of easy + efficiency. Your wife can easily do MP10, but monsters die a lot faster in MP9. From their FAQ:
DiaBro3, why is my optimal MP level so low?
DiaBro3 is determined to make the game fun for you. The optimal monster power level is derived from multiple aspects, taking into account your gear, effective health, and damage. We arrived at the suggested MP by aiming to lower the amount of deaths per run as well as how efficiently you can kill mobs. We know that someone optimized for MP5 could do MP10, however, taking too long on an elite pack is just not optimal.
We do not want to send you to an monster power level you can get by on, we want to send you somewhere you can optimally crush the content.
Also, I think the site has benchmarks that determine where it's going to place you. For example, your wife could be slightyly lower than Diabro's benchmark for meeting MP10, explaining why she's able to do it so easily, and at the same time, being rated at MP9.
Arguing about "MP9 vs MP10" imho is pointless. Some people post their char and say they can "farm MP7 with no problems" while I personally wouldn't go beyond MP4 with such gear. And sometimes the other way round. The "right" MP level is so subjective. The website gives a rough estimate, not more and not less. It does so pretty well, especially considering that it's still work in progress.
After crafting a bracers upgrade, my gearscore went from 12367 up to 12610. My EHP went up while my DPS remained constant. However, my optimal MP level went from 8 down to 7. I'm confused.
Just an idea... currently the optimal monster power level is based on DPS.
Add another one, that is only based on EHP then people would be less confused.
Actually, judging from some replies here, it looks like the optimal monster power is heavily influenced by EHP. Some made a point to say that it actually factors EHP too much. But it's a really hard thing to find a good balance.
I actually think it's better to classify people who know they can farm MP10 on MP7-8 than tell a weaker player that they can do MP10 (because they have the bare minimum EHP for it) and have them die a crapload, because of the website suggesting them that they could handle it (and they can't take a single hit and must play at 110% tryhard mode all the time to survive).
But I would like to see that they split it, so that it would present....
* DPS wise you are good for MP7 ( grind exp wise )
* EHP wise you are good for MP10
then it's easier for you to understand what where you are at the MP scale.
For example, I just did MP10 ubers solo with my MP6 dps and my MP10 ehp
Yeah, that's actually a good idea and a really good feedback. I wasn't really making an argument against the idea (just on the "is based on DPS" part of your post).
Quick update... first and foremost, thank you all so much for the feedback, a website like ours lives and breathes through feedback, without it, we cannot improve, and we intend to improve every single day.
We have been working very hard behind the scenes, we've opened up our audience to Korea and Taiwan.
We do have other improvements we would like to make, there is always room for improvement on everything.
There was a question as to what our difficulty was meant to be... normal, nightmare, hell or inferno... it is inferno. We are focusing on level 60 characters who wish to find the most efficient Monster Power level to farm.
It has been pointed out a few times that people can tackle higher content than we suggest, this is fair, we aren't denying that you can do higher content, we are just showing you what content would be MOST efficient. If you are taking a long time to kill elites, it will not be efficient, if you are dying too often, it is not efficient... these combined factors will find your optimal mp level.
Just wanted to add that the system might not be recognizing the Maximus legendary properly. I have one on my Wiz that is 1250 DPS, 25% fire skills, 5% life steal, +290 INT, etc., and Diabro scores it....267.
Really simple and nice, the only thing that's not really taken into account is 2handed weapons, since we cannot use off-hand it lowers our overall gear score by alot, still got 12k+ gearscore with no off-hand and MP10 ready so i can say it's pretty well done overall. keep it up!

It's a nice idea, but the 25% fire damage don't compensate the missing (up to) 300% crit hit damage (200 on 2H + socket). I guess you're playing HC self-found, but looking at your skills I think going 1H+shield (because of HC) or 1H+OH (for lots of DPS) might be better; 2h weapons always slow everything down, and with a 1H weapon with similar DPS you can trigger Arcane Dynamo much faster.
Maybe the website could detect that you're using fire skills and rate it a bit higher, but it definitely shouldn't be more than ~400 or so.

I have a life steal Schaefer's Hammer (no crit damage) that has 930 DPS and Diabro rates it over 1000; that's pretty much the only reason I thought something might be off with the rating on my Maximus.
But yeah, I play HC only, but I also play to have fun and mess around with builds and whatnot which is why I'm using the Maximus. The 25% is a significant boost to fire skills, few that there are (800K-1M meteor crits are nice).
I've yet to see any INT+lifesteal+crit/socket Maximus' on US HC (seems they're rare at the moment), but I'll definitely be looking!

Eh, or rather, it used to be (hadn't checked the site in a couple of weeks. I see now that even my 190 CD Schaefer's (on my Barb) has been downgraded to 818. Carry on!

Strange, from what i can tell, its score is only 697 !

The one on my Barb is rated 818 (with the 190% CD), not Wiz. A few weeks ago that same hammer was rated 1313 on Diabro, so clearly one of the updates has retooled things a bit.

There's a gameplay OUTSIDE inferno ?
Yes, Diablo 3 is and always was about playing in Inferno.

May every treasure goblin drop a crit mempo!

What do you expect ? It's surely fun, but sloooow, no Critical Hit Damage, no Socket, no attack speed ..
