I don't know why people are surprised at this...in the employee testimonial about inferno, they said that the aoe damage from common enemies is often enough to one shot you
Inferno inst for everybody. Normal is for casual players and inferno is for the hardcore. Then there are difficulties in between to fit everyone's needs
Your first mistake was even going to an official Blizzard forum and expecting any kind of reasonable discussion. It just doesn't happen very often. Far too many entitled people who whine and cry because they know Blizzard is likely to see the forum and therefor see their tantrums.
A lot of them probably won't even play into Inferno. It's really end game content for people who are truly dedicated to gearing up, playing smart, and enduring the set backs. I commend Blizzard for giving people who crave a challenge something to look forward to. People may miss out on Inferno tier gear, but if you're not playing Inferno you don't need it anyways.
the problem is no one reads the whole threads about an issue, just a first post so they can jump to some false conclusions
same as you complaining about sk doing 170k, but that number was for a creature in inferno act4, not sk
the thing is, if you take those 4 monsters whose attributes we saw, and arrange them properly, you will see there is a very small difference in damage between monsters in adjacent acts:
a monster in act 2 does a little bit more than a monster in act1, a monster in act 1 nightmare does a little bit more than a monster in act 4 normal, a monster in act 1 inferno does just a little bit more than a monster in act 4 hell, etc - a monster in act 4 inferno (170k) does just a little bit more than a monster in act 3 inferno
so 170k if observed in the proper context, doesnt look strange at all, but if some idiots read only the first post and believe everything they read you get some stupid hype about something thats not even an issue
So I'm reading through a thread about the skeleton kings stats on different difficulties. I can't remember the exact number but the sk on inferno had some crazy damage number like 170k..... Now Im perfectly fine with this however half the posts after that were people whining about how blizzard has gone too far and getting one shotted will suck etc....... Now after being one of the many people lobbying for a real hard game and inferno in its entirety I'm a little pissed people are already whining for blizzard to nerf it before the games out your making us look crazy
The whole point of inferno is end game, which means it shouldn't be easy to beat, first people whine about inferno being too easy and that it will take them 2-4 weeks to beat, now people complain that the mobs seem to hit too hard, even though we have NO IDEA how much HP/armor we will have with end hell/start inferno gear.
I hope it will take months for inferno to be cleared for the first time.
I wonder if the people complaining about these numbers are the same people who claimed that they will have inferno beat 1-2 weeks after the game is released.
I'm really looking forward to inferno and getting my ass handed to me. Seriously, wow is too easy overall (though heroic raiding is still a lot of fun and a good challenge, just wish 5 mans were harder) and I am so excited for a serious challenge. Blizzard. . .I hope you never nerf inferno.
So, I totally agree with everyone who thinks this is ridiculous. We have no idea the context in which that damage takes place - namely how effective armor is, out return damage, etc. Like someone basically said before, some people are complaining that the game is both too easy and too hard before it's even come out! Blizzard should just change their company motto to, "Damned if we do, damned if we don't."
But, I have a hypothetical question for everyone. If, in the best or near best gear and items the game has to offer, you are still getting one shot by regular monsters or non-telegraphed boss moves (ie even if you can take it, you should move out of the SK WW), do you think Inferno should be retuned? I would personally say yes. There's no need to "nerf" anything - just do a reevaluation of the numbers. I'm excited for the agony of dying in Inferno and the thrill of finally progressing, but there's an extent to which difficult content remains fun.

Even better, rename Diablo 3 to "A Tribute To Joseph Heller."
strange, I remember seeing some complaints about 'one shots' but don't recall seeing any 'whining for nerfs'
This.
I also recall that the thread is mislabeled, thus confusing. The SK is not doing 170k, that is likely some special attack of a mob in Act 4 of inferno or a misprint. The SK in inferno does however have 15.7k million HP.

We have a descent idea.... And what we don't know we can try various samples to get a good idea on range.
Its pretty easy to see that fro the #s, playing solo, that you will only be able to take a handful of hits before you die.
It seems fairly clear that instagibs are going to be quite common.
HC players probably should never step foot in inferno unless your just sick of the game and/or character, and don't want the money from selling your character and his gear.
I am not QQ'ing for nerfs, I am actually quite disappointed that blizz feels they can't make the game challenging w/o giving mobs the ability to instagib you. Very disappointed....
