So im wondering if they are so unsure about there product, chopping, changing & cutting things from it so often will it be nothing more than a flop? almost 8 years of development with delay after delay, devs telling us not to get to excited for the game, chopping content & framework from the game, i smell a big fail.
I guess it's more of a perspective topic, but I personally think Diablo 3 has gone a long way in being improved from what it used to be when Blizzard North was in charge of it's development.
My advice is before you jump the gun and label the game a fail, you should try it first and then make the decision to move on.

"We have a hockey stick in one hand, a beer in the other, we all wear toques and live in igloos. Right, world?"
look at it this way. if the game was released back in december like everyone thought..would it be better than it would be now? people clearly miss the reasons for delays
Blizzard always says "people won't remember the game was late, only if it sucks."
They obviously haven't heard of Duke.
+1 for this
Aside from that though, If they had released this game in December it still would of needed patching. Every game needs patching because games don't work the same way when they're played by millions of users. Even Diablo II needed patching so saying D3 won't need patching, or wouldn't have needed patching is such an ignorant statement. No game on release day has ever been 100% perfected. D3 is no different, they just tried to make it 99.9% perfected and that is a good an bad thing. Sure the game comes out with minimal bugs, refined systems and all, but it means things get cut if they aren't perfect yet, and it means long waits for their games. These are just facts that go along with their philosophy. D3 has in a sense become vaporware. What it was is not what it is anymore. Sure at its core it's a hack and slash but so much has been completely revamped from it's original state in 08 I don't really feel this is the d3 we were promised back then. While I can't provide a perspective of how it played then I'm sure others can and I'm sure it was more than enjoyable back then.

I especially like the parts where Bashiok says...
"There's a clean up pass coming for BattleTag in the near-ish future" and
"We plan to provide a name change at some point before release."
whats your view?
I agree with all of you, and the mention about Blizzard North, if they were in charge of it, we would have got it back in '04. I don't want a ballpark date, I want THE date. People have waited long enough, if they can't get it straight by now, then why the hell are they trying. I wonder if Runic has mentioned Torchlight II lately...
I believe based on the beta people are currently underestimating just how innovative many of the gameplay elements in Diablo 3 will be. D3's beta is barely more than D2 with a few changes. I'm getting the feeling that they are hiding a lot of game mechanics that appear later that will blow us away. The quests in D2 were static aside from "which dungeon is Lam's bookie in?" or "which end of the Arcane Sanctuary is the Summoner in?" I'm willing to bet there will be a ton of cool events and quests that will just make us go "wow" once we get to play the full game.
Yes if Bliz North was still here they would have released in 04 and it would probably have sucked like, oh I don't know, everything those people have made since D2:LoD?

I actually saw a copy of Duke at a retailer the other day. Honestly, the first thing that came to my mind was how much that game sucked, not how massively delayed it was.

IMO, they stalled from their original release date of December due to not being happy with it (mainly rune system) and wanting to redesign something major without rushing. A sensible choice I think. Now, I don't consider it getting delayed further as I believe they are still aiming towards whatever secondary release date they had in mind. The one thing that is bugging me though is why they haven't told everyone what date they're aiming for if they're cutting things like mad to try and hit that date. It sounds like they intend to patch several things on (or near) release day, so in my mind they don't intend to change whatever date they've decided on.
I'm not privvy to the crazy inner workings of a computer game developing company, but I doubt they are able to push a release date back by "a few days, maybe just one more week, oops, no a few days more" to tidy up a few small things and squeeze some extra fixes and tweaks in. It also can't be particularly fun to shift a release date and everything that needs to coincide with it back two months, and aside from the internal hassle associated with a release date change, the fan lashback at it happening again will make them want to crawl under a rock until it's out.
Either way, I don't think it'll be delayed from what they're aiming for again. But as I said, if they're pushing so hard to reach whatever date they've set themselves, why not tell everyone what it is?
Because if they delay once more it's gonna be a riot.
first, don't make a post with a title such as it is, since you have no evidence towards it.
second, it's only been in development for a little over 4 years, about 4 1/2. Not 8.
third, all this 'cutting and chopping' happens with EVERY game they have made. The difference is they are trying something new by letting us in slightly more with their development process. Every game they've ever made has had features proposed for it, tried out and cut. We just get to see it this time, and not *only* the finished product. And the way people like you act towards it makes me think they won't let us in again, too many people make threads like this and rage without knowing what they are talking about.

There is little innovation in D3, some of the NEW things are already removed. Other games, like GW2 are MUCH more ground breaking than D3 is. Unless of course we consider RMAH as a groundbreaking feature

Considering D1 and D2 were EPIC and groundbreaking games, how do you know their D3 sucked? We know little to nothing about it, none of us tried it either. The graphics we saw more or less ended up in current D3.
Innovation, as in something brand new never before done, I will agree with you is not prevalent in D3. But the systems they are using are much, much more refined than other games. You meantion GW2 will have 'innovation', like what? What is GW doing that is brand new and hasn't been done before?
Your statement about North's graphics being in the current D3 is completely false. D3's engine was built from scratch after North left. North's D3 would have been using the D2 engine with upgrades, so no none of it is in D3.
There's a reason North got kicked; They weren't making a good game. D1 and then D2 were very, very awesome. They also didn't have much competition in their time of release. Subsequent games made by north devs have not lived up in my opinion. Switching to opinions, torchlight just sucked. It was a worse version of D2.
You also say that by now we would have D4 or D5. Realize what you are saying; If North had pushed out that many games by now, then those games must have been terrible. A game like D3, while yes is nearing it's 5th year of development, is made to last 10 years. And again I'll ask, what type of 'innovation' do you think North could have done better? Have you seen those screenshots ? Yes we've never played it, but you know the saying about a picture.
TLDR; North made two good games, but they are a one pony show. Even their D3 was going to be more of a D2.5. The fact that a small, dedicated, brand new team who grew up on the series with fresh ideas took over is the best thing that could have happened to D3.

Ha. Bagstone.
it's delayed till Q4, if we lucky it will be this year.
You are sadly misinformed. Get your inf0z straight before making stupid claims.
