It's not really Blizzard's fault people stalk everybody's twitter and thinks a tweet about baking banana bread on Thursday means they are going to announce the date on Thursday. This weeks press event and March 19th have absolutely nothing to do with Diablo and these dates were announced back in January. They are specifically to talk about Mists of Pandaria. Maybe we will get a surprise? Who knows? But to EXPECT one is setting yourself up for disappointment.
I'm just as angry there is no release date yet but at this point I'm not going to get my hopes up on every Monday and get pissed off when the office closes. There's no way the game is coming out in April and May is looking pretty grim at this point.
This! Although.. yes I was hoping for one today, but if there's not one today it might be tomorrow, or the day after (or whatever, some monday, I don't care). People feeling somehow 'entitled' to a release date simply because the company said they're 'counting down the days'... God.. It's just an expression, stop taking every god dang comma these folks spit out so literally. I'd not want to be in Blizzard's shoes right now, with the development stress of the game on one hand and a bunch of spoilt brats whining that their precious game's been delayed by a few days on the other...
I get tired of people coming on this forum (A diablo 3 Fan site forum) and going back to that same old silly line about us acting like we "are entitled" to a release date. No.. we are not entitled to anything, its not like we own anything that gives us a right to anything here at all.. but to come on here.. to a fan site.. and try to say "stop being excited, your not entitled" is just silly. This is a FAN site for a game that IS NOT EVEN OUT YET. Those of us on here are going to be and get excited over stuff like days coming around that have a very high likely hood of a release date announcement.
Does Blizzard "owe" me a release date? No.. of course not. But I dang well will get excited about stuff like this.. thats why I hang out here (Nad have been since back in July).
Nothing wrong with excitement. As you say it's a fan site, it's only natural, and heck I'm part of it as much as you or the next guy. But this douche a few posts up saying he'll stop his WoW payment, bombing Blizzard, and so on if he doesn't get a release date announced this week, those are the peeps grinding my gears. =\
And fact still remains that Blizzard has said nothing that indicates a release this week, next week or even the week after. "On a scale of 1-10, it's a 9", how does that even say it should be this week. All this theory of press releases usually coming on mondays, the whole MoP thing next week etc., while sounding very logical, is not confirmed by anything Blizz has stated, as far as I can see. It's only interpreted as such by the vast majority of people. Of course, that gets people excited. That's not bad per se, that's just hype. But people going mad when their specific interpretations prove false is just rediculous.
I'm willing to give it until the 26th. I think at that point my patience is pretty much going to run out. This situation reminds me of a quote from a very good movie. "You know what I'm going to do about it? NOTHING! Because if I take it to small claims court, it will just drain 8 hours out of my life and you probably won't show up and even if I got the judgment you'd just stiff me anyway. So what I'm going to do is piss and moan like an impotent jerk, then bend over and take it up the tail pipe!"

Actually.. I should appologize, I hadn't seen all the un-believabl douchbaggy replies over the last few pages.. I thought you were talking to everyone who was excited about today in general
As to the 9/10 comment.. that does not mean anything at all.. except they are close. It was that, added with the tagged post on friday "Sign of release" added with today being the Last monday that makes sense for another two weeks. And saying "Days till release annoucement" .. All that certainly pointed to today.

Everyone should be tweeting @angryrobotics (jaywilson' twitter) their dissappointment with how blizzard has handled the diablo 3 release.
If you are less than satisfied with how they have managed this release, then you should be letting them know.
I've personally followed every blizzard release since vanilla WoW's release, and I can safely say this has been by a large margain the most overhyped insulting display of manipulating the fan community to generate hype a game. A game where features like general social functionality and pvp are being intentionally cut from the game rather than polished and refined. Every week they tell us how much more shitty this game is going to be on release, all while leading everyone on with comments like 9/10, imminent, exciting news int he coming weeks, in the near future (with the last two comments being made over a month ago).
I've been following this release closely for over a month and I've hit the point where I don't think I'll be buying the game on release anymore, as I'm genuinely concerned it will be a failure at this point.
Can't really be called a PR failure we are still here and desiring the game. But it is just PR. They'll jerk us around until they feel enough people are paying attention. It's a lack of integrity on their part. So worried that their game can't stand on it's own, so they need to wait until the optimal time to release concrete information.
The optimal time being when another company releases anything worthwhile.
I think it's done on the basis that on average, people can only afford one major game (50-60 dollar) release a year. Or so I've heard. But if they just gave the release date ahead of time, they'd probably do better, as people would be able to make plans.
They hype up any release of information by giving intentionally misleading twitter posts, then watch as the flood gates open and interpretations and guesses poor out. Only to repeat.
It's no longer about making great games, It's about creating great PR and the money they receive for doing so. The game, the product, is only the means to the end.
I'm getting a bit annoyed, myself. So my cynical posts probably reflect that...

The fact that you, a member of the public (as well as the general consensus of the public) is annoyed is direct proof that a PR failure is occurring. You wouldn't, and the majority of others, wouldn't have that sentiment at all if a PR failure wasn't happening right now.
They said D3 takes places 20 years after D2 story wise, it looks like the release will be 20 years after as well. We are already up to year 13 so just 7 years left guys. Near future.
Blizzard: "We are thinking about cutting the PVE content to make our launch date, we will add it in later"
Fansite stuff, its nothing at all, which is why I kept saying people were looking into it =P
But this is my point exactly, the only news people want at this point is a date. So ANY other updates from Blizzard at this point just fan the flames. Especially cryptic meetings that turn out to be nothing.
Thanks for the updates that that thing everyone tweeted about wasn't worth tweeting about...
It just makes no sense that they preached to us the delay is because they need more time to make a perfect game to Blizzard standard no matter how angry everyone gets, its "how they make games, its ready when its ready."
I'm sorry but you have already cut soooo much content from the game so its ironic that its still not ready.
You broke your "its done when its done" theory and its STILL NOT EVEN GIVEN A PUBLIC RELEASE DATE.
Biggest fail of a game development and I can only hope that management get rid of the clowns that caused it. I'm looking at you Jay Wilson.
Get the effing shell of the game that once was out already.
Can't really be called a PR failure we are still here and desiring the game...
It's absolutely a PR failure. The game should be at the forefront, not the dickweeds behind it.
When you let idiots get on twitter and represent your company, you are going to regret it.
I'll concede that it is PR failure. But those "dickweeds" are told very strictly what they can and cannot say. I'm sure they were outright told to build up hype.
Hell, blame twitter for advocating tiny, insignificant blurbs of text. Stupid social networking. The fall of society isn't going to be nuclear war, it'll be the tweets about imminent nuclear war.
(And sometime after, D3 will be released)

That said, if you don't see how diablo 3 is quickly turning into a massive PR failure then you an ignorant nit.
