C'mon Blizzard! I know how impatient most of us are, but it is 12:50 September 1st. It's just like what they said! August is over and it's time for D3!
Sorry didn't see one of these posted yet so figured I'd be the first.
yea i wanted the beta for my birthday , but i went and look at when the SC 2 beta started and it started at the 17 Feb 2009 so i take guess the beta for d3 will start around the 15 Sept
In my mind, it's already here. Unfortunately in my mind I'm also getting bored of it since I'm playing the same third of act 1 over and over and over and over and over again.
The sooner beta starts, the sooner it ends, and the sooner the game is released.
That isn't necessarily true. I think they were shooting from the hip a little with the announcement and planning for the RMAH, and getting a secure and legally compliant version of it up globally isn't quite the same as doing yet more iterations on a single-player game which has had content largely done for a while. I think they also haven't really thought through the implications of making runestones the only differentiator in character builds in terms of how that relates to the RMAH economy, and they certainly haven't had any opportunity to test it in an environment where players are using the equivalent of real cash.
It's a bold, tricky operation, and Bliz hasn't had that kind of culture for a long time - the last big risk they took was almost a decade ago.
Gheed, they're going to be using a third party program, they won't have to worry about that at all.
Also the economy will fix itself. A economy always levels out and won't be in real trouble until new items are introduced making old items drop in value or the market becomes really oversaturated, either case blizz won't get involved in. The economy is 100% player based.
If you can point me to the details about the third party they'll be using for brokering, disbursement, and local tax compliance I would appreciate it.
The Bliz I know are far too much in the way of control freaks to give a 3rd party the keys to any operation involving money (or really anything except tchotchkes), but I could be wrong.
Q: Can players choose to get cash from currency-based auction house sales, instead of having the proceeds deposited into their Battle.net account?
A: Yes, as an advanced feature, players will have the option of attaching an account with an approved third-party payment service to their Battle.net account. Once this has been completed, proceeds from the sale of items in the currency-based auction house can be deposited into their third-party payment service account. “Cashing out” would then be handled through the third-party payment service. Note that this process will be subject to applicable fees charged by Blizzard and the third-party payment service. Also, any proceeds from the sale of items in the currency-based auction house that have been deposited into the Battle.net account will not be transferrable to the third-party payment service account. Not all regions will support this advanced feature at launch. Region-specific details, as well as details regarding which third-party payment services will be supported and the fee that Blizzard will charge for the cash-out process, will all be provided at a later date.

Blizzard never said the beta was coming September 1st.

Right... all that says is that "you can use paypal to get the money out, but we still haven't worked out any of the details". Massive administrative headache and logistical nightmare. How many hackers are going to try to work this system the day it goes live? Tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands?

It's all in the Press Event thread.
