I maintain that Blizzard should sell some beta keys on eBay or on their own auction site.
Of course, send out the beta tests you want to send out, to test various hardware and whatnot, but, then put say 5,000 beta keys on eBay at $20, then another 5,000 as an auction. Assuming you get $20 for both, that's $100,000 in return for having only 10,000 extra people download the beta (which could be delivered via a torrent, but needing the key to activate)
I remember the Starcraft 2 beta keys going for mega bucks on eBay.
Because of coarse Blizzard needs MOAR MONEY!!!

If they spend that $100,000 to hire another artist or programmer for a year, to get the expansion out a day or two earlier, why not?
I can see the appeal of selling these keys, just like Blizzcon tickets or goodie bags, everyone wants to capitalize on the demand. To me they are worth a lot, but I would never sell one. In the past, whenever I got extra keys I always gave them to people I knew would play-test the hell out of it and give honest feedback on the product. Knowing it will improve the game when it comes out is worth more to be than a quick buck.

FIFA 07 for the 360?
I never understood that logic, so if the game came out and you played act 1 would it ruin the rest of the game for you?
