One of the most differing aspects of PC rigs is the audio equipment. Diablo and Starcraft, due to their styles of play, have many people killing the volume and listening to music. I'm also guessing that Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 will implement some kind of real-time voice communication. So I have some proposals that I believe will make these games STAND OUT to people that care about their audio, and request other people to offer input too.
1) Multiple Audio Device control
Reason: Allow game input to channel through speakers, and 'voice' to channel just through a headset (USB headset, for example). Like halo. Halo has the BEST voice communication because of the through-the-headset voice only action. Makes halo feel more real. Also, I have never seen this in PC gaming, and it just confuses me. I hate voices through speakers.
2) Battle.net music library
Reason: Why not?!?! Listen to music and not Alt+Tab out and crash the games sometimes. Plus, MANY people don't like the repetive noise of Baals laughs... (but i hope baal runs are own3d by 1.13, and hope to god no one in D3 lafs like baal)
3) Separate speaker control options.
Reason: Many people, especially hardcore gamers like myself, have multiple channels of audio. I'm guessing 5.1 is pretty common. For example, implementing my #2 suggestion, why not stream MUSIC out of the rear 2 speakers, game noise out of the front 3, and share the sub. or put the sub with the music. don't really care
Ok so any suggestions please post! I'm curious to hear what you have to say!
(and if i did this wrong or this post has already happened i'm sorry. i'm REALLY new to this)
The hell? Anyone that can turn the sound off is evil, man. There is no bashing without sounds. If you don't enjoy the sound, I say you are not even enjoying the game. Its half of the game. If I didn't enjoy how the majority of the monsters sounds, I'd hate a game. I -hate- some games because of this alone, actually.
Not saying its not nice to sometimes put any pumping music you want and just go through some carnage with it, but.. you know.. occasionally. Not all the time.
I'm also going to say that I don't care about all these audio options for now, but they'd be welcome. I'm still forever using 2 speakers. They are the last thing I'd think of "upgrading" and I never get there.

What? ... It's like saying if you put an iPod in you're incapable of enjoying life.
Added music, and added options, won't hurt you or your 2 speakers. It gives opportunity to listen to music in game. To hear both sound and music, as suggested in my initial post, is an option that i want to have easily - preferably hosted by the game. Because it's not important to you doesn't mean that someone else wouldn't like these options
Its not clever to play music while you play a game that requires alot of concentration like starcraft2 or Diablo3, because creatures around you will be sneaking so it good to hear their footsteps.
No, but you would be amazed how many people you can catch trying to sneak up on you on a good FPS with a nice DD 5.1 surround headset.

There are no stupid questions, just a bunch of inquisitive idiots.

Lol its not half its like 1/10th.. If it was half of the game you could make quite poor games with just a great audio and voices.
In single player games I always have musics on because single player games offer so much less than what multiplayer games do. In D2 you play so many hours that the sounds start to repeat so much.. also the musics aren't so great in some areas like Act4.. you can barely hear the music so I just turn the sounds off because listiening whirlwind hit monsters for 10 hours isn't really "half of the game".. Act1 and 2 have nice musics and sounds.
But I'm sure D3 will have better sounds than D2 which I probably will keep on for longer time.

I never said that these options shouldn't be in, in fact I said the opposite. Just because I stated my opinion on "sounds and musics" doesn't mean I don't want anyone else to listen to what they want, because in the end I don't care if you listen to your music or not, whatever fits you.

Diablo requires concentration? Not saying there is nothing to decide, but its certainly not a game that makes your brain smoke.
I'd agree with Starcraft 2. I only ever used outside music in multiplayer shooters to pump me up, it actually made be better sometimes.

Sometimes I turn them back on again.
