I know that monthly payments are usually only in the MMORPG area. But how many would actually pay $5-$15 to play Diablo III? I myself would not mind paying since $10-$15 to me seems insignificant since I do work now and then Also having a monthly payment might just make future patches come out faster and with more content.
The problem with paying is that it sets up Blizzard to start nickle and dimeing everyone.
When us as gamers start to accept companies to limit the access of once free online multiplayer functions to the paying customer is when companies will really nickle and dime us to death.
If Blizzard was able to give us free mulitplayer for 6 games (maybe more?) then why would it be acceptable that they now start to charge a monthly fee?
What has changed? The new games coming out SC2 and D3 are not an MMO. As well as why would Blizzard makes its self look as if its desperate for money by charging a monthly fee? I have yet to play a RTS that has required a person to pay to play it online, thats just rediculous.
Hack n Slash games? Well those are usually on consoles as single players. But NwN never charged a monthly fee. (not sure about their new games) Nor has any of the Dungeon Segies (again as i know of) charaged a monthly fee to play online.
So why are you all accepting of a monthly charge? Are you guys really that fanboish for the company that is Blizzard? I can't wait for D3 but in no way can they justify me paying money for a game to play online that they previously let people play for free. As well as other companies with a fraction of the money allow the multiplayer for free.
I consider Diablo II to be a MMO in some respects. not an MMORPG though. And the whole pay-to-play thing is relatively new with the gaming industry it came hand in hand with ONLINE becoming the # 1 attraction in games. not all but in most games players want an online feature to make the game last longer for the $$ they shelling out these days. And for games like Diablo whose biggest gem is Multiplayer (come on who plays single player?) that online is extremely important and takes time and $$ to keep up.
Yes, I agree Oogie.. and lol @ "who plays single player?"
I've actually seen a few posts by players who claim that they do only play single player.. Kinda creepy. haha
I would rather they charge for the bnet service as a monthly fee which gives access to all of their games, MMO or otherwise, instead of them charging for each game individually.
Please don't do what Hellgate did and divide a pay to play mode from a free mode. Your customer base becomes separated, and then you have to justify features that require payment, as opposed to those which are free. It's a huge freakin mess both in development and in the community. Don't go that route.
of course NOTTT. its not a MMORPG and blizzard make enough money with there crappy wow. if they add a monthly fees they will loose so much people.I no its gonna be a realy realy realy good game and im a big diablo fans but this is just so idiot.
IF there was as much care and attention given to class balance and content in the game as wow gets then probably.....if not then no it would not be worth it
sure I would be ok with paying to play. If they sell the game at release for like $25.

Take the stone and run!"
They said it wouldnt incurr a fee in many interviews and Blizzcasts. Not sure where these rumours about a fee for Diablo 3 keep coming from. Of course they said it in their usual cryptic fashion. I really can't think of a single game that has multiplayer in which you pay a fee to play the game, the closest I come come up with is things like Xbox live, but you not paying for the game, your paying for the service on which it runs. Assuming this method was implimented, Diablo 3 would be free but Battle.net would require a few to use, but they also said that was free was well.
Dug this up.
Rob Pardo revealed in a recent interview with 1UP that in the most likely case, the payment structure (Buy the game, play free online.) of Battle.net will not be changed. Blizzard is not planning on utilizing a subscription model like in World of Warcraft, but rather follow the model of its predecessor, Diablo II. I’d like to share with you a few key questions I found interesting during 1UP’s Interview With Rob Pardo.
1UP: Speaking of the WOW experience, other action-RPG games have attempted a subscription model of sorts, can you talk at all about that for Diablo III? RP: Well, ultimately, we’ll decide on the final business model of the game in the future, but I don’t think you’re going to see a subscription model in the realm of WOW. It’s a boxed product game, it will be more similar to say, the Diablo II or the StarCraft II model. 1UP: Can you talk about any specific Battle.net changes that will be made for Diablo III? RP: Battle.net is in constant evolution; for each game we really add a lot of features to Battle.net. And right now we’re really focusing on the Battle.net features for StarCraft II. But we definitely have been keeping Diablo III in mind also. I think probably sometimes towards the end of the year, we’re going to really start talking about the new Battle.net features as they pertain to StarCraft 2, and a lot of those features will carry over to Diablo III. 1UP: Will it be similar to Diablo II, where it’s around five, maybe a few more, classes in the core game? RP: I don’t think we’re saying today, but it will be very similar to the previous games. [Note: This was asked and answered before the FAQ for the Diablo III site went up, where five classes were confirmed.] 1UP: As a bonus nostalgia kick, the demo had Deckard Cain. Are there any other nostalgic bits you can touch on? Will Wirt be the key to the cow level? RP: There is no cow level! 1UP: Okay, will something happen if I type that phrase in when you actually let non-Blizzard people play it? RP: [Laughs.] You’ll have to wait and see.
And would people please search the forums first. There is already several threads on this topic. Here's a few.
-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
