When I say this, I mean, when you first open the box, what will you do. And when you start the game, how will you choose your character? Would you try to get 1 character and MAX him out, go through the whole game, and be one of the first people to get the high of a level? Then go start another character?
When I first open the box, I'm going to read the books DUH. I'm going to install it, and open B-net; no point in doing single player, unless you don't have access to internet. I'm going to make 1 of each class, and look through their skills, and then try to get 1 character through the whole game. I'll be a little nervous about placing my skill points though.
On a side note, lets see if I can name my wizard: "wizard". Those names are always the first to go.

I'll probably read the book while it's installing.
Then, I'll make a battle.net character, going with hatever class looks coolest in character selection screen. I'll then make a passworded game or game no one else can join, and play through the first difficulty. Slow and steady, ish. Just pick whatever skills look cool or whatever, not doing too much pre-planning.
Next character, I'll pick another class, do a bit more pre-planning this time, get more comfortable with first difficulty, and play with other people. After I'm comfortable I'll go to hardcore and try to reach the top.

My typical train of thought: Everything -> Sex -> Diablo
I think when I open the box I'll get the game installing and read through what I perceive to be the imporatant parts of the game manual. As soon as I am set to get on b.net I am making a wizard and I will focus on her for quite a while. I haven't done any pre-planning as of yet but I will after they give a release date and announce more charcters and such. I've only ever had 1 character to 99 so I don't see myself trying to be the top dog. I could care less about that. I just want to get really familiar with one character and then move on to the next until I have made and am comfortable with all the characters. After that I will take what I have learned and remake my favorite classes over, try different builds, gear setups, etc. It is my hope that after playing through I won't be able to choose a favorite character and just enjoy the hell out of playing them all over and over and over again. That has never been the case but that is my hope at least.

The blind mind's eye replies with a sigh and a tear of contempt for those who see the world as it truly is.
I will hopefully stockpile some munchies beforehand, and then while it is installing I will play D2 on an alt pc. Once it is installed my first character to be made will be a Barbarian eating munchies through my adventures.
Side note: Think we will be getting a midnight release?

my plan is probably look at the box for half an hour. looking at all the cool things on it. lol. then probably reading the books. (actually had a dream about that. really interesting) anyways. after reading the books. install the game. then probably pick the character that i like the most based on knowledge of the character, style, and how well i can do with them. then play the game. after i get pretty inveleoped in the character and feel like ive played them good enough. probably make another character and repeat process.
1. Install.
2. Read books.
3. Spend seven minutes deciding which char to try.
4. Spend twelve minutes coming up with a name.
5. Get to level ~15.
6. Realize I screwed up something.
7. Spend four minutes debating whether to restart.
8. Decide to try different character.
9. Repeat from step 3 until all chars have been tried.
10. ????
11. PROFIT!

I will play religiously for the first couple days at least. Couple of my Americas Army buddies are anticipating the release as much as i am so were gonna play through the first difficulty together
i'll pick one character class and never play another (unless expansions bring one i like better)
will provbably play it on softcore to learn the game and unlock hardcore, then play hc forever more.
edit: if you don't have to finish sc to play hc.. and i'm stupid enough..(which i very well might be..)
i might play hc to begin with.
there's no surer way to learn what not to do then getting permanently killed by it.. and i can never seem to care about sc chars in the same way that i care about hc ones.

I've been playing the Wizard/Mage types since the early 90's, so I assume I'll be picking a male Wizard! I'll play my Wizard until I get close to cap and/or collect decent end game gear. I'm sure I'll play all 5 classes sooner or later.
I agree, we must read the book while we install the game! I don't have any plans on playing single player, so I'll be using Battle.net. I'm going to play the game slowly and enjoy every bit of content possible! I'm in no rush!

World of Warcraft: Mystics - Level 60 Undead Mage
Warhammer Online: Mystics - R40/RR41 Goblin Shaman
I will read the book while it's installing... after instal, i will make a male witch doctor named Macumba.. he will problably go deep in the Plague tree cause i wanna use frogs
After finishing i will creat a alt, a famale wizard called Maritlage. She will try to creat a melee wizard build.
After that i dunno.
I'll probably read the book while it's installing.
Then, I'll make a battle.net character, going with hatever class looks coolest in character selection screen. I'll then make a passworded game or game no one else can join, and play through the first difficulty. Slow and steady, ish. This is pretty close to how I'll do it.
Once I buy it, I will read the book on the way home from the store. Then pop in the disc, and finish reading what I didn't get the chance to on the drive, while it installs. Most likely I'll be playing as the Witchdoctor, since he is the closest to the Necro, unless one of the last two classes happen to be something really sweet and incredibly original in style and gameplay.
I will start up a passworded game, and play for about 72 hours straight (I'm going to take some vacation time for this), except for bathroom breaks and food breaks, and sleep if I deem it necessary. I will play through normal fairly slow, trying to experience every little bit, I won't skip a single word of dialogue, I will read every single tome. Once normal is done, I will probably rush through Nightmare as quickly as I can, stocking up on as many good items as I can. If necessary, I will start up a couple other characters just so they can store the items that are meant for that class.
My skill selection will be dictated by what looks the coolest and appears most powerful, although, I will put one point into every single skill at some time, just so I can see what they all do. If it is on my first character, I don't know.
After all of that? Well,... lets just say I probably won't be able to keep a girlfriend.
Ill basically get the game carefully open the box(wearing latex gloves) and take out the stuff. Then I will install the game and while it installs read the manual. After that me and my friends are going to play D3 together each picking a different style of class :D. After all that is done and we wake up the next day wondering what the hell happened ill go ahead and frame my box of D3
Try to make some friends on here quick so I have friends to play on B-net with :(... Then we can each start with a different character (or same character, doesn't really matter) and go through the game together, share ideas, share knowledge, help each other out... I can't wait!
Good topic. A cookie for the OP.
If there will be a collectors edition, I will read through everything there is while the game is installing. After that, I'll start making chars, probably will try with just 1 at the beginning, get the feeling, learn to pwn monsters, do some quests. After that I will probably start making other chars, to test them out.
I am kinda planning this for a 24/7 when I first get the game. You know, ditch school for a little while. Tell em I'm sick, I got a Diablo fever. ^^ Also will try to find some friends to do the game with, cos none of my RL friends play Diablo. A couple do, but not online.
Gotta make a list of NEEDZ:
Energy drinks
Food
TP (no, not town portal)
haha, lol thanks I like cookies. I was just thinking about this topic, and I was curious what other obsessed people think about it.
I really never buy the gold edition, but if it wasn't for this game, my life would be completely different!!! This is one of the main reasons I'm going into game programming. I would expect to pay up to 80-100 for this game
I'm willing to!!
We should team up and play on b-net when it comes out; we will probably all be 2 years older. (I'm a little nervous of it ruining my SAT studies, haha.) Send me an e-mail (i'll send it to you in a private message.
