You can see the monsters are attacking the siegebreaker. What does that mean ? It means the AI is designed to allow monsters vs monsters combat.
IMO they didn't added this feature for fun, it takes lots of time to make sure multiplayer servers will be able to handle the damage calculation between monsters. (or not)
They must have done it for something important : We will see heaven heroes Versus Hell monsters. Would be really nice to see, in my opinion.
You can set a monster to attack another monster just as easy as you can set a monster to attack a playable class.
Why they did this, no clue. Maybe tey just wanted to see how the monsters stacked up.
It's not mass confuse because they don't have the thing above their heads, it's not shapeshifters because they said the game currently has 8 player max? That's like 12 monsters.
Someone important already said that the monsters will attack eachother.
You're more likely to see Goats attacking Skeletons than eachother, etc.
It's like they're on the side of their little family.
That's what I got from it when I first heard of this.

Well, if Belial and Azmodan are still having a civil war with each other, that may be spilling over into Sanctuary as well. Both sides simultaneously invading Sanctuary and vying for territory and control. Just a theory though.
Although it's probably just what others here have mentioned.

While that's possible that would be incredibly stupid of Belial and Azmodan. I'd think they'd put aside their differences and attack Sanctuary together, just like they attacked the three prime evils together.

if hell is a divided force for even a moment, especially a force against itsself, heaven would have it's self a landslide victory unless it too had open rebellion. More likely they're just testing. Unless my dreams have come true and there is an arena where players can pick teams of monsters to fight and place bets on the winner...
I got 50 on seigebeast ftw.
Maybe that's how gold will make it's comeback.

That's the point of the thread... They are testing monsters vs monsters, or, more specifically, monsters vs boss/semi-boss.
But yea, they add to do it for the confuse spell...
