Playing games is a waste of time and money, so why do we do it? It's fun. Emotes can be just as fun. To say that they waste time in the context of playing a video game is just strange.
Yeah but then how would a player know you're performing an emote on him if there's several people around?
if you just type in the command the game automatically targets the nearest player in your line of sight.
You can select people yes, but to perform an emote it was not necessary. Many if not all of them would still work if you were on your own.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

They are fun if you have nothing to do. In d3 I bet there is always some action going on. In wow for example.. when bored in city and have nothing to do you might make a few emotes while just idling

Pfft. What about waiting to trade, perming, talking to somebody on MSN or something of that sort... in every game there is a time where you may not be doing nothing.
Nox is a fast-paced game but still in PvP games me and the other players manage to use the Laugh emote after someone dies in a stupid way.
The only emote i want to see is : /sit /laugh and maybe the other talking ones.
also it would be cool if your weapons got bloody as you killed things and automatically after a while, when you aren't fighting your character would make a fast whipping motion with their weapon(s) leaving a puddle of blood on the floor
That is taken from ninja gaiden 2 of course ;P i think its like the R trigger on teh xbox controller its cool as hell.
No emotes because in Diablo there isn't a long wait between doing things. You join a game and then go. Isn't not like WOW waiting for a Pick up group or your Guild to get there stuff in gear to raid or whatever.

Kind of on the same topic, how about those quotes you could say by using the numpad? Those were cool for about 5 minutes until you heard them all. Then they only got used when you spammed "Run!" in baal runs when throne was packed.

Agreed. You are never standing around waiting for a Baal run or for people to join to trade. Ever.
However, for me, I could be doing something productive in the game.
