This is a terrible idea. The difficulties separate casual players from intense players. I cannot count the number of people who say they have "beaten Diablo II' but never have ventured beyond Normal difficulty. They kill Baal and call it good. I love heading into Nightmare/Hell because the Act 1 creatures actually put up a good fight, and I get to use my advanced skills on those early level monsters!
Let the casual players be casuals. If they want to beat the game on Normal and call it good, let them. I want to continue beating the game in three different settings. I think it was a brilliant idea, and it should be kept.
At first I found normal a challenge. But that was my problem. Now I 'get' the game I realise that it is ridiculously easy.
I've acquired Diablo skills and as always I can hardly wait to get to Nightmare. Defeating Diablo and Baal in Normal are just waypoints to test my new character build. The true test is in Nightmare.
Venture into Hell and the reward is cool gear to use in Nightmare or if you are extremely lucky, Hell. Pity the monsters are a little flawed in Hell.
---------------
Having the three levels increases the replayable and the game length by MORE than 3. If it takes just X hours for Normal then it will take X+n hours for Nightmare - you just don't waltz through as quickly as in Normal. Blood Raven is always tricky for me early in Nightmare with her stupid skeletons following me around!
And in Hell you just don't run through corridors or you'll wind up dead quick smart. You have to inch forward sometimes and that slows you down heaps.

It costs less to provide three levels of similar content than one massive level.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.

Imo it takes Xh in normal X/2 in nightmare and X*n in hell.. so the nightmare part is quite useless at the moment. It is just something where u get enough levels to deal with hell.
Blood raven with barb in NM is 1 ww => deadraven
Ok a few more if there is more than 1 player in game, but she and the minions deal pathetic damage.
Hell isn't much harder, only 1.10 brought some nasty stuff like 3 ench bosses that you might wanna check before you rush blindly onto. If you have the resist they shouldn't be any problem. Do u have some mod to make this harder or what is it? Sounds like a completely different game.
i dont mind keeping it hard. What made my life miserable was (as i was playing sorceress mostly) the immunities. Immune to frost and Lightning = me hitting the mob with a baranar's star (!) that i had on swap. not cool...
other than that i loved the normal/nightmare/hell difficulties and hope they'll keep it in Diablo III too.
Heck, I'm still waiting for Blizzard to release D2 patch 1.13: "You're Stupid" difficulty. The Act 1 fallen should kill a level 80 char in one hit. Level 99 FTW!
Because claiming that all your characters have beaten Hell difficulty by level 60 is just plain ridiculous...
In your sig you mention a Barb...unless the Barb has absolutely perfect equipment there is no chance in hell they could complete Hell by level 60, the mlvl-clvl difference is too high to be able to hit anything reliably, along with other problems (mainly if you entered Hell at level 41 (lowest you could w/o grushing), You'd hit level 60 before Act 5...)
Well first I don't play lod.. so the levels are slightly different. Second I was able to hit monsters with no problems at 60 because of that.
And what if they have? Jealous?
edit. oh sorry i didnt tell that i don't do this in hardcore for reasons but also in there i could do it if wanted. I dont wanna look cheap with at level 60 with hell title. In ez mode softcore if I want to I can do it with all characters but I hardly do since I wanna play trough the quests which leads to higher levels sorry did I mislead u?
For starters these are suggestions or hopes not necessarily based strictly on what's been said.
Yes, and he was suggesting a problem with your suggestion/hope.
Is the time from for d2 a single run through one difficulty or all three? If all three, then the time frame would be the same.
No, with the 3 difficulties, it just repeated the same levels and areas, so no new places needed to be programmed to make each difficulty. If they have to add more Acts (with distinctly different scenery, monsters, quests, NPC's, etc.), then it will take much longer to release the game, especially since Diablo III is using the havoc engine and is very in-depth in detail (for every object that is destructible, new code needs to be written for the havoc engine.)
The story would move much more slowly in a 9-10 act game... though it would allow plenty of divergence into smaller character backgrounds. This could be very interesting.
Not personal character backgrounds, though- as in the character you're playing. It wouldn't make any sense online, especially if you have 4 Sorceresses in one game. They can't all have the same exact story, there were many Sorceresses, just as there are (or were) many Ennead, Taan, Skatsimi, Vizjeri, etc.
Lemme just ask this: what harm is there in having multiple difficulties? If you think they're dumb, don't play them. Just enjoy beating the game on normal. The difficulties give the game added longevity for those of us that want it. The ones who don't care for them aren't losing anything by having them there.
Yeah I know and it sucks ass. People should learn to play.
Its the best way to be successful in Diablo 2. People that do this have learned to play and know how to be successful. Blizzard should have fixxed it and as far as I know they never banned or threatened to ban for doing it. So if they leave it completely open to the masses, what motivation is there to go slow poke if you already know the story and surprises that the game holds? Cheaters are the most successful people in D2 and it is Blizzard's fault, you can't blame cheaters when the refs aren't even trying to stop it.
But the TOU (Terms of Use) that you *should* be reading are still being broken by them, regardless. We're not arguing what is fastest and easiest (or "successful") here, we're arguing what should and should not be done. No one is going to say that cheating is harder than playing like you're supposed to- that's why it's called cheating- taking advantage of unintended bugs/glitches in the game to expediate your own desires. Taking advantage of glitches is also against the TOU.
law –noun 1.the principles and regulations established in a community by some authority and applicable to its people, whether in the form of legislation or of custom or policies recognized and enforced by judicial decision.
I see nothing about laws not having consequences as not being laws in there.

enforced I'm puzzled as to how you would enforce something without some form of consequences.
Lets face it I can't even count on the honor system for more than 10 minutes of playing with my friends in Halo(no screen watching!). So how can Blizzard count on it for millions of people.
Plus with multiple levels we get more than one bite at the Secret Cow Level easter egg in D2 and that new easter egg we all know about in D3

Imo they should take off the dificult levels from the game (normal, nightmare, hell) and instead of 4-5 acts give us 9-10 with approximately a 8-9 lvl goal per act, this would make the game much less repetitive.
sorry about the english, tryed my best
I like the idea of changing or altering the current system. I haven't played D2 in some time but remember always waiting to be rushed to Hell so that I could get going with what i thought to be the "real" game. Cheating in a sense, I know, but never the less, many people did this. What if there were still 3 difficulty levels but each had their own distinct acts? Acts 1-5 in Normal, 6-10 in Nightmare and 10-15 in Hell. This would get rid of the repetitiveness of the game but still keep the crowdedness of each game low and keep more ambitious players separated from those who are content just beating Normal.

I'd be glad to become acquainted with you on US West Battle.net, as I base my moral principles on the honor system.
Rules are there because they are trying to prevent the bad results. People take advantage of glitches and what do we have? A messed up economy! People take advantage of Baal running bots and what do we have? Level 99's in the first two weeks on the new ladder!
So, in retrospect, the punishment is the negative and long-term result.

Content would be a huge problem if they were at 5 acts and trying to get up to 9. I don't want to wait that long, but in an xpac it would be orgasmic.

wiping the difficulties would make the game
stupid
cause everything would be either too hard or too easy.
