I think BOP is a good idea, but only for the most rarest of items, a Zod rune for example. I think a BOE system is ok, but as long the item can unbind within a certain amount of time and this will vary depending on the uniqueness of the item. For the most part I'd prefer not to have any BOP/BOE system.
I doubt Blizzard is going to make the same mistake thrice with value of gold in D3. I believe it will play a bigger role in our trade economy.
I honestly don't see them implementing any sort of system like that in this game. They try to keep it realistic in that, well yes we both could wield the same bow. You can use it when I don't need it anymore.
This allows let than uber items to get used. If I found the 2nd best bow in game I'd probably try to trade it if BoE and just trade up for the best and not waste that trade value.
If they do decide to go this route, respecs would be mandatory. I would lose my mind if I had to get myself equiped on bind items only to be nerfed on an incoming patch and have to completely restart. Leveling a character had been less of an issue in D2 than obtaining great items.

"The gaming public now has focus on Diablo again, and with it comes the modern-age of trolling and jackassery."
Fine, can we agree that at least BoE would be a good addition? That way, the trading and bartering would still be there but there is an obvious risk and consequence
if you choose to use the item. Best of both worlds, eh?
You don't have to trade end-game uniques, but keep in mind that the end-game unique that drops for you maybe be for another class. A simple BoE system for this would work well, but I think at least a BoP system should be in place for quest items.
I played it the first week it came out and I think within six months SoJs started to take over as currency.
Within six months a dupe method was already out, which makes that a moot point. Think of the system before it was tainted it wasn't that bad of an idea, people were gambling for uniques and magical items using their gold.
P.S. Obviously I am talking about D2 and NOT LOD. I think the ability to buy/and or gamble some uniques should be added.

Bind on Equip would be a really great addition, but Bind on Pick-up would not.
I never ever MF:ed in D2, because I preferred trading my way to better gear. This isn't possible in WoW due to BoP and BoE, and I personally hate that it isn't.
Trading, atleast for me, is half the game
It was for me as well, but with a system that has the best of both worlds trading to a certain extent then having to find the higher unique gear which was binded on equipping would be good. Therefore once you find a high level item you could still trade if you had no intention of using it, but then once you did use it it was yours forever. Obviously it was for a class you like to use so why would you want to trade it? Plus you still have the pride in finding it yourself.
I like being able to create my first char, level up to 80+, find one valuable item, and start trading right off (for a couple of weeks) until I have a very very very good complete set to put on a new char. I do this for PvP purposes, because that's the biggest thing for me.
You still will be able to as long as you don't first EQUIP the valuable item you find, however once you equip the item on your character, as long as it is a high level item, it will be yours.
True. I didn't elaborate well. What I mean is, when there is an influx of items, either by trading or muling (because the item will never be destroyed) then the value goes down. Since no item would ever be destroyed, inflation kicks in and the economy becomes inundated with items and they become the currency (just like in Diablo 2, duping aside).
That's why even though the United States has mints to print money, we don't just print a trillion dollars because it's convenient.
This is how an economy and value for items are established - based on supply/demand/rarity. The duping was the only reason that inflation was exhorbitant. There was a gambling packet sniffer out almost right away that people gambled tons of SoJs and then proceeded to dupe them. How many legit Zods do you think dropped in the realm.... ever?
Think about it, if you could duplicate your country's currency and there was no way that it could be detected or the penalty was very low - what would happen? Everyone would make their own currency and they would be trading $70M for popular/wanted items IRL.. while all the people that thought it was wrong and just worked their 9to5 would get the shaft. It would destroy the economy, which would have far more devastating effects in the real world than in a game.
As long as they implement a secure network infrastructure, reliable item code identifier and enforced penalties it will not be an issue. The economy will create itself.

Thats EXACTLY what I was trying to get across, which didn't seem to work. However you did a much better job at explaining it.
When the game first came out the economy was fine, people were trading, and using gold to purchase items. But once people were not punished for duping/cheating the economy went down the drain.
The money you have in your pocket has no implied value other than what you put on it. It ONLY has value because someone else wants it.
Well I think the true reason that D2's econ went hay-wire was becuase of mass duping. Currently D3 dosent have any BoP items. I think that D3 really wouldnt need BoP items if they can stop duping which I think isnt going to be hard with the new b.net system. Plus BoP items were implemented in the first place becuase in WoW you are roughly guarenteed a very specific drop for each boss. D3 is a complete random items, monsters, and maps/chests so I think if they take care of duping the game will be fine.
I do agree it would be nice to have gold mean something which who knows it might let just wait
Make it so items cannot be dropped on the ground at all, effectively killing muling.
This alone would reduce the # of tradeable items in the game world quite a bit, and would force players to either trade, use or vendor an item when space becomes an issue.
IMO this would go a long way to achieving a balance economy w/o stepping on anyones toes.
This along with BOE items would maybe be enough, gold is for repairs and gambling!!

Dear God,
Please protect me from your followers.

Disclaimer : Please do not come into this thread to flame or make incessant claims that this will not be Diablo at all with these new systems. Do not claim it is a copy of World of Warcraft just because of this idea. Many games to this day borrow ideas from others. There are no "original" games anymore, only original concepts. Even Diablo 1 and 2 were worlds of difference when D2 added new things and even then, the "hardcore" fans would whine that it wasn't "Diablo."
If you really did play Diablo 2 over B.net at all then you know the economy sucked because of the myriad of uniques everyone had. Even I had four mules packed with high-end runes and gear and I had one mule carrying specifically Windforces, Eaglehorns, Stormshields, and Grandfathers.
When a game's item, like in Diablo 2, never had to be destroyed or sold because there was no reason to, then the economy will blow. If you can just keep muling or stashing or trading HIGH-END uniques over and over again, even after using them, then it becomes Diablo 2 in terms of trading / economy all over again.
Gold has no value in Diablo 2 whatsoever, only to repair your gear. When I used to frequent the trade channels and I hear, "40 SoJs for a .08 Windforce!! WHISPER ME NOW!!" it became quite clear that the economy went to crap.
Blizzard has to, and I strongly emphasize this because then it will be Diablo 2's economy again, implement some sort of way to stop the influx and retainment of high-end uniques to be able to be traded over and over again. And I believe a BoP (for certain universal items, like maybe a +20 attribute amulet ^_^) would help deter the economy from going to crap.
Now, with the Bind on Equip system, one would still be able to trade high-end uniques but once it is equipped, it becomes yours forever and cannot be traded. This will at least let a spellcaster who picks up a Mace +2 to sell to a warrior class without problems. I'm not saying that this will stop all items from becoming currency (hello, SoJs and runes) but it will at least stop the economy from going to crap.
A problem i can see occuring wit BoE as of now, the item grid system is 1 item per slot wether it being armor or a weapon. If I find a sexy axe for my barb im not even gonna be able to see how it looks on my character without it becoming bound to me.
I would definitely like BoE implemented, but definitely not BoP. I'm 100% sure that this game will become one of the most popular online games ever played, and with that said, if there isn't some kind of item regulating system like BoE, then we would slowly but surely see a massive decrease in the each item's worth. It'll get to the point where some "rares" or "uniques" will simply be discarded or given away if it is deemed "too easy to get" due to the plethora of it on the market.
BoE, would pretty much solve this issue. All items, no matter if they are found in the beginning or at the end of the game, will still be worth something throughout the game's lifespan. People will value their items even more, and carefully think about how they will use them. Will they keep it for later use for other characters? Will they use it now? Or should they trade it to get that item that better suits you.
Maybe they'll even come out with some kind of system where if you equip an item, it becomes bound to your ENTIRE account, meaning all the characters you create in that account, thereby alleviating that situation where you don't know which one of your characters should use it.

And just to answer this, they can always implement a "preview" option to items that you want to try on before purchasing. I remember this feature in the LotR MMORPG and it worked perfectly.
Absolutely do not want anything to be BOP. I enjoy the trade aspect of the previous Diablo games, and this would completely ruin it. The last thing I want is for this to be like a MMORPG where some awesome rare loot drops, and I can neither use it nor sell it to anyone.
Prefer there not be BoE stuff either, but I'm not against that as strongly.
one of the things i enjoyed most in Diablo 2 was doing boss runs on my own to get stuff to dress my characters better. I liked how i barely used the trade channel and managed to have a good amount of items for myself and my friends (especially playing Hardcore where a laggy day can be your last day with that character).
I wouldnt want that to change.
"Blizzard needs to implement at least a BoE or BoP system (Bind on Equip or Pick-up)."
No, they don't. And in fact hope they don't because i want to be able to trade/exchange with my friends the stuff i will find.
So stop crying because some cheap noob is gonna pay someone on paypal for items. If they enjoy getting items that way it's their problem, but don't be pissed like an angry teenager because they found a fast/cheap way to get items.

How will finding a BoE item prevent you from trading it with your friends? It won't, unless you equip it and if you do, it's your problem.
