personally, i think D3 graphic should follows what it should be, the dark fantasy. As what presented in D1 , spooky, scary, no chance of bright or happiness to enter the realm.Remember The Butcher? gosh, it was nightmarish when i was a kid. First impression is what matters, if the game gives u chilling atmosphere at first, u will feel it all the way throughout the game .
i VOTED poll 3. though u can add lamps or candles into it. and light radius thingy ofcozz . hehehe. Dark is always good, gives u surprises.
It is still 1-2 years to the actual release. I'm sure the trailer don't have final graphics in it, if it would they would be about 2 years outdated already. I think the surfaces will get more detailed, it might get a bit more rough..
Lets wait and see.
In stead of offering their opinion on the current schemes, a lot of people seem to state things such as this. The developers have already stated that they are very far along in the game. I'm not sure which interview I heard this in (I've watched a lot over the last few days), but they have said it.
i would prefer darker tone.. but blizzard knows best - and one of the factor why they know best is because they do what the fans want, if the majority want it to change, they will do it - i bet at least 1 blizzard developer has read this thread
I almost quoted this for truth, but then I thought about it and realized that statement should be expanded. See, Blizzard knows that what the fans want is best. That's why we're getting a Diablo 3 in the first place.

This thread is going to require a lot more views, posts, and voting before Blizzard takes note of it, I think.
those pics look great liquid, my biggest quams with the graphics has to be the charachters, the dungeons in the vid looked great to me but the barb at the start was horrible, i think they should redo the charachters (not the monsters) over with 5x polygons or something because right now they look unacceptable.
in all honesty, im surpirsed your comparison turned out feeling good still. i have to agree, diablo is not a mish mash of colour rather themed by a colour.
it sets atmosphere, and you really need it in a diablo or it turns into titan quest....
'So I guess...uhm...it's probably been about...3 years I think? Since then? And as far as why we're annoucning now, well. Uhm..it it was just kind of the right time for the game. You know, the game's really far along, and you know, it's really fun to play already even though we're not, you know, having a playable build here at the show. It's, it's...It's pretty far along and it's already a fun game to play, so we just felt like it was the right time to announce the game...and a great place too.'
To sum it up, he says about all characters are playable, all of act I is practically complete (this does not mean they aren't far along on all the acts, they had teams of developers on Diablo II). Basically, they seem further then they let on at the WWI.
He also states that Diablo I and II had an absence of color and they are trying to add it into Diablo III, which is what we see now:
'You know if you look at Diablo I and II, they're very uhm. I mean..they obviously have the, the gothic look to it. but you know we weren't, really weren't...uh...they weren't very colorful games...and... and one of the challenges we wanted to take with d3 was; could we add color but still maintain that gothic dark feel? You cuz I...I think uhhh, we wanna take more of a dark as an emotion rather than actual color or art choice and I think that's something that uhm you know took a long time to get to the point where we're at now. Like, we've probly gone through at least three different pretty major art direction shifts until we got to the point we were at on stage cuz, I think it's really difficult to be able to pull that off, but...we're really happy with the look of the game now.'
hope they bump better the models until release, couse even d2 got "better bumps".still 4 a pre-alpha its very awesome.
watching 800mb gameplay i felt playing titanquest ^^

...had a nightmare ...Tyrael finally embraced the shadows... damn Wstone.
"So we're trying to that right kind of balance between Diablo I and Diablo II
dungeons, but with maybe a bit more of a World of Warcraft exterior experience"
in a single char for exemple the difference between upper n low textures, i mean alpha channels still not polished.

there should be little or no reason for this sad excuse of a petiton.....sorry just had to keep it real because what we saw wasnt even a beta
There shouldn't be, but there is.
'Not even a beta' doesn't say anything. Art direction is determined early on and not changed once things get rolling unless there is significant pressure from within the team or from the fanbase or public. This is even more true in modern game development. It's not like 1995-1998 when you could go from this in alpha to this at release. Not to mention that these days Blizzard announces their games late in development precisely to avoid showing screenshots of prototype graphics, just videos of gameplay-subject-to-change.

Yes I think we all like the darker graphics deep down inside but not if it means WAITING LONGER FOR RELEASE. I rather have graphics the way they are, but some sort of way of changing them come with the game if possible through settings. Otherwise I don't care if the gameplay is amazing! I just want it now!
I've watched that damn trailer so many times now and if anyone thinks it looks like WoW type art style is watching something else. In my opinion it is its own thing now, yes its not as "realistic" as d2 but if i wanted a blow for blow realism in my diablo i would be LARPing.
I mean you really thought that big purple tal rasha set was realistic?
