I just read today on an italian fansite about this.
GIEF D2 REMAKE.
SO people who complained about D3 can try D2 and look at how it actually was. Though i know already that IF they're going to do something like this, it won't be a simple HD remake but more an adaptation to modern game standards.
EDIT: until it's only a "port" to make the original games available on bnet launcher and runnable on modern machines (like addine bigger resolutions for D2).
If you read this carefully it's 99% safe to say that there's no D2 remake in the making. This is merely a position for someone to deal with the compatibility issues of the classic games and Windows 10. Those games can still be bought and downloaded over B.Net, so they also need to support modern operating system.
"If you like wearing many hats" - sounds like ONE GUY responsible for all the classic games. If they would really make a D2 remake and fundamentally change some stuff about it, like introducing an official HD mode or official mod system, that would require more than one person (note that this is the ONLY open position for classic games).
"know small teams are most effective" - it's also clear that it's not like they have a huge team to work on a D2 remake and just need a senior director for that, another indication that they'll just have this one guy taking care of all classic games and give him very limited resources to tackle the most urgent issues.
"Expert knowledge of C/C++" - my first guess was that they would make a port to mobile/tablet... you know, because of the recent Candy Crush acquisition. Nope, C/C++ clearly hints that they want to maintain the old code. There's a chance for console port (Visual Studio/C++ includes console programming), but I guess they would've added something like LLVM debugging to the list (it only says Win32 and OS X).
Experience debugging unfamiliar code - again, take the existing code and fix it. There's nothing about "apply modern programming paradigms to old-fashioned applications" or "translate our crappy C++ stuff into C#" (well to be fair, Blizzard doesn't use C# in general as far as I'm aware).
TL;DR: This sounds like they're looking for a poor person to fix the Win10 compatibility issues of D2, WC3, and SC. Nothing about this indicates anything like a "D2 remake". Sorry :-)
"We need engineers to help maintain our legacy games. We have a history of maintaining our games for many years. Our earlier games are still played and enjoyed today, so we want to continue to maintain them for those communities."
Job application for classic games:

..Qualities that made StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II the titans of their day...
...We’re restoring them to glory...

Diablo 2 is more than 15 years old, you cannot compare it to todays games.
When evaluating a game you have to consider that, and you have to play it as it was meant to be played.
It's not the technical aspects, but the "RPG" aspects that was way better back then.
IMO the biggest thing in Diablo2 you buildt a character through talents, synergies and the runewords.
In Diablo 3 you get all the loot fast, no character building, just swap the skills/items accordingly to fotm, then work only for paragons.
Things just feel more rewarding when you invest more decisions, time and work into getting a character where you want it.
Running Cow level, meph, pindle, baal, uber tristram, diablo(normal and uber) was all normal endgame activities, in addition to hunting runes.
The great runewords was perfectly farmable through countess and hellforges, without any botting or duping.
The items, like enigma, hoto and cta got to be "mandatory" only due to the special skills they added (teleport/BS/BO).
But the system was way more interresting as endgame content, than an endless paragon farm.
Seems no remake, just support for those older games:

It won't be a remake. They will just fix it to run on current OS
