When i played the beta i saw that the max numbers of caracters was 10, I think this is way to low.
I guess its nothing new for WoW player? For me it is and im the kind of players who will make different kind of caracters per class to try new style. Just like a BowZon or a JavaZon.
I don't think it's a huge deal. Currently there are 5 classes, that's two of every class. I tend to create quite a few characters but I really think with the current number of classes it won't bother me. Also with the ability to swap skills easily I wonder how many more characters I'd actually make after the initial 5. I'll probably just try to level one of each in HC after I have 5 in SC.
Instead of increasing the characters per realm I'd like to see them increase number of characters per game. I loved running around with 8 other people in D2, part of me feels some of that cluster fluff the enemy feel will be lost in D3.
From my understanding, it won't be a big deal at all. You don't create builds like you did in D2 so there's no need to have 2-3 different toons of the same class.
I'll be with neversummerevo; 5 SC and 5 HC, probably make the HC toons all female because they're obviously the hardest of cores.
It's a bit of a mixed emotion thing; happy to not have to grind another Necro to try out summoning, but also going to miss that grind (although, I spose on BNet it was pretty easy to get power-levelled) so not sure how I really feel on it.
Wonder whether or not stash size will ever become a huge issue?
Edit: Re: stash, is there a limit to how much space you can buy?
Definitely don't see me using up more than 10 when each class don't need to be remade for a certain build due to ability to swap skills. I actually don't see why anyone would need more than 10 other than to just try and prove a point that 10 is somehow not enough. If this were D2 though then 10 could be a problem but it ain't.

Whats is your idea on that?
You won't need more then 10 slots. 5 characters plus male/female.
You won't need to create new characters to try new styles because skills are easily swappable. There's no real need to mule because there is a shared stash and the money is also across all the characters.
Heck even 10 would seem too many, but only given because otherwise everyone would bitch about only being able to chose one of the sexes to play with.
I personally plan on 5 softcore / 5 HC =)
But you're defiantly right, the way D3 is you aren't forced to level a new toon just because you want to try a different build. Now nothing is stopping you from re-leveling one again if you'd like, but it gives more freedom to the players who didn't like that aspect of D2.
Realize that while it was the case in D2 (until they patched in respecs), and D2 was awesome, this doesn't mean it (having to level a toon just to try a different type of build) was perfect. Imho it was a broken system that they tried to fix with limited respeccing.
Even to those of you who say that re-leveling a character in D2 was the whole reason you played, add up how many characters you actually leveled. Then add up the time it took to get them to baal runs in hell (what, just a couple hours if rushed?) Now put those numbers against how long you actually played D2. And while I'm sure there's a >1% who *only* leveled, the vast majority still spent most likely 75% + of their time PLAYING that character instead of leveling, whether that be MF runs or whatnot.
All in all, give D3 a try without the mindset of being forced to re level if you srew up your build / if you want to try a different one. IMHO it's a great step for D3, and if anything will keep players playing longer. (I forget the exact math, but it's proven that to try every skill / passive / rune combination for as little as 1 minute a piece, it would take you longer than you have to live =P )
It is a bit low, making it kinda difficult to have more than 1 of each char in sc and hc.
Not a huge deal, as you can technically just buy another copy of the game (no shared stash though).
It does feel like an unneeded limitation to be honest. Not like the server should get any extra load from more characters, since you can only be logged into one at a time anyway.
If I end up liking the game a lot, I certainly plan to have 5 sc and 5 hc chars over time.
And then suddenly a friend ask if you want to lvl a new character with them, and you have to either delete a char or say no...
Apparently you can also sell your characters on the ah. So with 10 characters already maxed and if you want to create a hardcore character but have no slot left you could potentially sell 1 of your characters instead of deleting him. Now the tough choice is obviously which character will you part with.
10 character slots for D3 is fine, just as long as they increase the slot amount by a few with each new expansion that comes out.
I'd feel very bummed if, for whatever reason, I had leveled up 10 characters only to find out that with the expansion pack, I won't be able to level up one of the new classes without having to delete one of my 'babies' :(.
That said, I don't see myself actually levelling up 10 characters in vanilla D3. The only real reason is to get another hero in the opposite gender, but even so, I don't really have much of an inclination to play the male version for some of the classes :P. Sure there's the fun of levelling a character from scratch, but I'd probably just delete/remake a single slot for that, rather than continually making new toons.
Is it going to be 1 account per copy of the game? Currently in Diablo2 you can make as many accounts as you want with the 10 character limit making the number of characters potentially infinite. And is there an East/West server, or everybody is clumped together?
Assuming its everybody clumped together and limited to the 1 account, so 10 total you can ever have. I'm kinda bummed about that. Ya maybe you 'shouldn't need more than 1 character. But who knows maybe I really like my witch doctor and want to make another one to level with a friend who just got the game. Maybe I want 9 of them lol. At least in WoW I could roll up on another server for an extra 10 slots.
i still think it's perfectly fine considering you can basically change your whole character just by moving rune stones. and having 2 of each class sounds like plenty to me! but i do hope that they go back to the bigger shared stash, i'm rather afraid i'll run out of room about instantly!

That is most certainly no loss for 2 reasons.
#1 That drastically incrases the system requirements.
#2 Playng with 8 people in Hell is more like a game of Follow the leader. It was all you could do to just keep pace with the zerg that the game devolved into in said groups.
Good riddance to bad rubbish!

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
I think it will be fine considering that we won't have to remake a bunch of characters like in D2. I expect to have one of each class on SC and one of each on HC (total of 10). I don't think I'll need any more than that.

Yeah, 1 account per diablo 3 key you buy. But like other says you can switch your skillz easily with runes.
My really biggest concern right now is the stash size. There is 70 slot per "stash pages" and most item take 2 slots. This mean that you will have about 40 to 45 items per stash pages. If i compare to how much mules i had on diablo 2 hardcore, this will be capped quite fast. And in D2 i was keeping almost only unique items that has some kind of value. They really need to give us more then 3 pages of stash.

Then again there is an AH in diablo 3. You can sell all that stuff instead of storing it all. I honestly don't see a reason to store more than 1-2 alternate sets of gear per class.
On the main topic, since there's no reason to have alts, I think 10 slots is plenty, that's a hardcore and normal of every single class.

There is no reason to hoarde things in DIablo 3 though...
PS: You can still have characters you use only for storage. I personally don't plan on wasting my time doing survival mode.

I think its good in that it prevents the market from being flooded with useless crap, and it makes it so farming organizations must get several copies of the game if they wish to have more items on the AH which is good for blizzard since they make more money. As for players, it probably wont change much since you wont be finding more then 10 things that could actually sell effectively anyway.
I myself am fine with it. I think if it was not set up with the current skill system that they have then I might have wanted more. I also know with the much larger bag space and option to buy more is great to help this issue out. I am worryed with the latest talk about cutting that back over server space it has me worried but i trust if they find they have more space they will open that up more for us.

5 male softcore and 5 female softcore
5 male hardcore and 5 female hardcore
But ok... maybe its exagerated
As long as they add slots when expension comes out, im fine with that system.

If anyone ever feels the need to make a 11th character and jam up the server, he should pay for it. I think it's fair, reasonable and just plain good.
