Does anyone else wish they could see the loot that is dropping for other players? This whole individual loot system is a love/hate thing with me.
I think it's great for purposes of looting and the game going along smoothly but at the same time, if 3 of my friends get some awesome items, I would like to share in the "OH SHIT LOOK AT THAT SHIT THAT JUST DROPPED SHITSHIT SHIT!" feeling when you see great loot land on the ground.
The loot could be outlined in a specific color pertaining to a particular player (Player 1 Blue loot, Player 2 Red loot). Then make it so only your loot has a slight "glow" around the name (or the item itself, or both) on top of that.
I'm guessing the best argument against this is that there will just be wayyyyy too much loot on the ground. Well then to that I say FILTER! Just let the player choose what level of "other player" loot to show. As examples, you could set it so you only see "other player" loot if it is a Magic item or better (blue font) or you can set it to only see Legendaries that drop for other players. In other words, you would never see white items that are for other players. This would make this feature much more functional and less cluttered. As the very least, I would like to see Yellow/Orange items of other players by default for the reasons I outline below.
This makes it so you can share their excitment or even strike up a conversation for a trade/buy (since you otherwise would have no idea they got something nice most of the time unless you exclusively play with friends on skype).
So has anyone else thought about this? Has anyone brought this up on the D3 forums? I looked around a bit and didn't see this subject discussed much. I wish I had a character so I could post there, would love to hear a Blue's opinion on the matter, and yours too.
I understand, and would not even be opposed to the idea. It would be fun to see that same drop as your friend =D But honestly it's really not a make or break feature, and would just take up more development time.
You could however, sometime after release, maybe have a dialog option that tells you when your buddy loots a legendary, or whatever you set it to. I just feel seeing the items on the ground will not only confuse me (even if there is an outline or change to the font) but more importantly clutter the screen. Just my 2 cents =D
You could just ask the other players to share their drops. If they don't want to, they probably didn't want to trade/give you the item anyway, regardless of you being able to obtain info on their drops or not. I think that if drops are reported to the chatbox, you could end up in feeling obligated to pass loot on to your group members, even if you actually didn't want to.
If they are like that, it's your choice not to play with them again. In the end I guess most people will find their own little circle of trusted friends to play with and share drops. Because that, sharing drops, greatly increases the chance for members of the group to find the items they are really looking for.
For the higher level rare/legendary drops (or whatever you set it as) surely they can implement a "bob received [Hammer of awesome sauce]" chat link much the same as WoW's.
But it just seems like unnecessary clutter, or another thing you don't really need to looking at right after a boss or normal mob fight. Your friends could easily show you after. All depends to, the person could wish to keep it for thier other characters or try to sell it to you on the spot. There is ups and downs to this.
I personally prefer the current loot system, but I don't mind reasonable change.
Re the unnecessary clutter argument: Blizzard just added tons of useless white items to get that "loot shower" effect. Perhaps they wouldn't need so much white junk if everyone's drops were visible.

Just thought the exact same thing, that's a great idea.

This. Definitely a good idea.
