So hard to find decent info on skills... wish there was a good wiki around that collected all info.
Anyway, I'm closing in on 60 on my WD and I've fallen in love with Acid Cloud. I've heard people talk so much about zombie bears, so I thought I'd change to that at lvl 54. Tried them out, but I find AC killing stuff much faster for me. I dunno, maybe it's different in Inferno somehow.
To my question: How does AC interact with LoH, crit, crit dmg and haste? Can the spell crit? Is it effective with LoH? I'm guessing haste only makes it so you can spam the skill faster?
Since life steal is based on total damage done I believe it works quite well with Acid Cloud once you have a high DPS compared to LOH. Still, if you have any pets you want to focus on life regen.
The LOH ticks are great, I think better than any spell we currently have. With just 500 life on hit I was seeing decent sustain - basically a screen filled with mobs would shoot my life bar up to full. Only a few mobs and I would get small, but noticeable life gains.
Crit / crit damage both work. I'm not sure if a crit on the initial damage means a guaranteed crit on the dot portion. Just know that the dot portion will NOT tick in yellow numbers when it crits, it will just be ticking for a much larger number.
As you said, increased attack speed mostly means you just cast faster, although the DOT tick portion is probably calculated using your overall character damage, so you will see minor gains on the DOT tick by using IAS.
Lots of people doing the blob bomb these days, but for my money Acid Rain is still king.
Do the acid pools stack or does casting a new Acid Rain overwrite the ground effect?
One of the reasons I use Lob Blob Bomb over Acid Rain is that I can be 100% sure that I'm getting the biggest "bang" for my buck if/when I spam it. That aside, I love both Acid Rain and Lob Blob Bomb and both are very awesome choices for Acid Cloud Runes.
I use Lob Blob.. but that is also cause it is great for trapping things in spot... the blobs will tank things and the mobs cannot run over them, so you got that annoying goblin in sight cast a couple blobs just past him and it will herd him right back to you and your pets and then drop a couple more to pin his ass to a wall..
Works great on those range elites as well.. surround them with blobs and watch them squirm in pain.
The damage can crit on initial hit and as for the follow up dot it seems to be variable.. will have 1 tick for huge the next small.. so take that as you will...
But comparing AC vs ZomBears... yeah i prefer AC, the range, the bottle necks you can create, or the pinning things down and then letting loose with the dog bombs is great.
So i say more AC less Zombears but hey i am very biased lol
I don't think the acid pools stack. I don't know the rules for which pool overwrites which, but if I had to guess I'd say the most recent, as other calculations would get a little complex.
Lob Blob is insanely good. I kept searching for a good AoE spell for my build and as much as I loved Pestilence, having used it pretty much the entire time since its been unlocked, I dropped it for Lob Blob.
I don't think the pools stack either, but the blobs make up for it and one pool is still a decent DoT.
With decent mana regen, casting those 3 stackable blobs over and over again is easily attainable and consistent damage.
Finished up Inferno yesterday, using Acid Cloud (with the extra range) whole way through. It's a wonderful spell. I played around a bit with bears in Inferno as well, but I don't like that they're so slow, and have extremely low range. I imagine they're stronger against single targets than Acid Rain though.
