I thought it would be fun to brainstorm and share ideas of rune effects for various skills. I will start the Witch Doctor off with Zombie Dogs: The Witch Doctor summons a Zombie Dog to aid him. Can have up to X Zombie Dogs active at a time.

Multiheaded Zombie Dog (Cerberus Mod!): Instead of summoning X zombies, summons a single zombie dog with X heads. He has more HP and damage and attack with X hits at once (like level X zeal). When he dies, he leaves X normal zombie dogs behind that will fight for a few seconds.
Bone Head Zombie Dog: This zombie dog have a big head of bone. Instead of common bite attacks, he will try to hold the enemy with his mouth doing physical damage over time and holding then still (in case of small monsters) or slowing then (in case of bigger monsters). Multiple bone head zombie dogs can attack the same target stacking the slow effect until inflicting paralysis.
Guardian Zombie Dogs: This will modify the ZD's A.I. Instead of attacking the nearby enemies, they will stay close to the WD, forming a circle around him. Whenever a enemy comes near they will try to block the way and attack the agressor. Due their defensive pattern, they are stronger then the normal zombie dogs. They should have a different visual too (maybe greyi or white colour).
Burrowing zombie dogs : they go underground and pop up to attack enemy. It could be very useful in pvp because they won't be as easy to target and kill.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Poison dogs that leave a short trail behind them and when they are sacrificed they create a poison cloud instead of the explosion. Kind of like the poison corpses in the Lut Gholein sewers.
• Bonesplitter effect, when enemies hit the zombie dog, the dog will "leak" bones, as sharp daggers. Making damage to enemies that hit the zombiedog.
• Having the zombiedogs charge into enemies it they are a half screen or more away from the zombiedog when its time for an attack. Stuneffect perhaps.
• Acidblood - A Zombiedog leaves a trail of blood, making it acid for demons that steps into it and dealing small continues damage. (like mentioned above by Jackzor)

I. Love. All. These. Ideas.
Sacrificial Zombie Dog - The Zombie Dog mimics the stats of the creature you summon it from, almost like Iron Golem did with weapons. The higher the stats, it would cost X more to summon.
(Though admittedly I think it'd work better with Gargantuan).
“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.” - Albert Einstein
Bah, great minds think alike, and all that... Cerberus Dogs would be so cool. No matter how its implemented.
Alabaster: Giant Zombie Dogs. dogs are larger, have more health, do more damage.
Crimson: Dogs gain a fiery breath ability, and are also on fire, causing damage over time to nearby enemies. They still fight in melee.
Golden: Dogs lose the ability to fight in melee, but now spit poisonous globules at enemies. These linger on the ground for a time, causing damage to any monster that walks through.
Indigo: Summons noticeably fewer dogs, but the dogs gain a number of additional heads equivalent to the level of the rune. Higher level rune, more heads, fewer individual dogs. Or just one huge one, and each rune level allows another to be summoned.
Obsidian: Dogs are now immaterial, and their attacks do arcane damage. However, enemies will no longer target them for any reason.
Zombie Dire Wolf - Removes the ability to summon multiple ZD and turns them into one giant zombie wolf that is stronger, has more HP, the ability to taunt opponents and when sacrificed does the damage equal to x ZDs.
transformer dogs:
will start off as normal dogs but the longer they survive or the more damage they deal or the more health they lose, they will start transforming..
80%hp, sprout more limbs, attack and move faster
60% gain focus, look more ferocious, never miss an attack
40% attacks become ranged, enemies attacks will miss
20% will become enraged, doubles in size, turn fiery red and gain a random elemental damage type, gains lifesteal
remember that the dogs ar affected by the wd's abilities so they can deal fire and disease dmg alrdy and idk if they are affected by your allies or not but if they can than they can deal cold and other dmg's as well
Obsidian: Once summoned your Mongrels continually respawn when killed or Sacrificed, however the respawn process is double the length of the normal summoning animation and your Mongrels max HP is reduced by 1/4.
rather than zombie dogs the witch doctor summons other animals but with the same function examples could be cats, birds, bears, wolves, or even zombiefied demons??
