Ok, I'm done watching and reading every guide out there on how to gear and how to play. Each one has a totally different way of doing things. So here is my question to you guys. What kind of stats should I be aiming for over all?
I know some people say go for a crit+crit damage build, others are LoH, while some are saying super stack defense and literally just crawl though your progress. Well 5 million gold later I'm still stuck on the 1st quest in act 2. I've tried with a wizard (got nerfed), barb (too expensive and not as fun for me), DH (entire set of gear that is worthless now), and now Monk witch is a heck of a lot more fun to play.
Problem is I've already spent way too much on this monk (around 2 million) and I can cruise through act1 while sleeping, but act2 just eats me, poops, and eats me again.
As a monk, stacking dex will never get you wrong, but you need other basic requirements for the build to work
1. crit% is obviously important for a crit build, get around 20%+ and you will see cyclone proc like mad. With 30% I saw as many as 6-8 up at the same time. crit dmg at the other end is not as important, it is more like a nice-to-have stat once your crit% is high enough.
2. Look for a weapon with LoH, 600 dmg and 500 loh isn't cheap but its definitely affordable. If you find one with a open socket, put a crit dmg gem for added damage. With another 800 blue weapon, you should have close to (or more than) 15k damage, which is what you really need for Act 2. With 20k+ damage, mobs are dying rather fast in act 2. If you use a shield instead, pick one with high crit chance and dex to up your damage, All three pieces should cost you roughly 3 mil total, or less.
3. 450 all resistances seems to be the lowest for surviving in act 2, I would aim for roughly 600 if possible, but it all depends on play style. For armor, anything over 5.5k (with enchantress) is too much. Don't over stack defensive stats, you may need to in act 3, but definitely not in act 2.
I did Act 2 with similar stats, but until I got my crit above 20% and dps close to 20k, I went with Keen Eye and Firestorm. Easy kiting.
When I reached those stats I went with Thunderclap and Cyclone.
Also, switch Resolve for Transcendence. The heals just help way too much at this stage to be passed up.

Practice and tactics can make difficult things manageable.
As a possible change in perspective:
Two million gold spent is very small. If you are doing good in act 1 and starting into act 2 with two million invested, thats great! Act 2 is realistically the 2nd hardest area of the game as act 3 and 4 are relatively close.
There are lots of upgrading and playtime ahead, keep up the good work.
PS. At act 3/4 farming level, I'm lucky to find any single item for less than 4 or 5million that improves my stats. Consider how well you are doing with 2million on everything.

~dips her head at you~ thank you. and also I'm a bit scared at the prospect of the upgrades to progress in a3/4

I got 10 million to spend.
Thrill me please.

BoH-Blazing Wrath
BF-Faith
Serenity-Ascension
Mystic-Earth
Evasion-Hard
Initiative-OWE-Resolve
1747dex-749vita-4490armor-700resist
Crit:8/critdam 50
dodge:37.5/54.8
Life: 30,200
LoH:887
you should aim for 14k dps, 30k hp is fine, 630 resists and 5.6k armor
When I reached those stats I went with Thunderclap and Cyclone.

That is what my ex BF says. Maybe I just suck that bad.
Yeah, starting to think I need more crit. ~sigh~
