I did go back and kill him post ss nerf. I still started out using ss but odviously doesnt last. The only thing I had trouble with was his cone chain attack in which I switched all my gems to vitality after doing so I was able to take a hit of them and go click a health well...
Also if your having a issue with the mini enrage where all of the ground turns to fire. The bottom of the platform all the way agains the wall in the left corner of the octagon if standing there you dont take damage from it.
get 32k+ hp and some resists. Chains are usually pretty easy to dodge - anticipate them after every charge, don't blow invis unless you see the animation though.
Thanks for all the replies, guys! Looks like I'll farm vit + resist and try to predict and react better to his cone attack, then
Man, D3 is fun on inferno. Cool to have a game that demands you to learn its mechanics to be able to win at all, instead of a game where skill is only defined by how quickly you win <3
I have a level 60 barb that has about 35k life, 10.5k dps, 9.5k armor, and 650 resists. Due to my low DPS, I usually have a couple minutes with the floor on fire before I can kill him. I have a bit more leeway than you because I can handle the hits, but I still like to avoid them.
After he comes at you for the first time, expect 2-3 normal hits and then expect the charged up hit. He will jump twice in place before he starts the big swing. When you see this, swing around behind him and start attacking him there. It has a pretty narrow AoE so you'll be able to avoid it most of the time.
He will shoot a column of fire from his chest when he is about to charge. Immediately move to the left or right as far as possible because he has a large footprint when charging. He'll sometimes get you even though you think you've given him enough room, so give him more than you expect him to need.
The health wells seem to refill every 30 seconds. I make use of each of them when my health goes to half full. Use them as much as possible, but try to always have one available. Also, you will not be able to access the health well if the butcher is in the corner, he has too much bulk and blocks you from being able to click the well.
The faster you can kill him, the better. Once the entire floor catches on fire most squishies like yourself will die. I can handle the floor being on fire almost indefinitely, but you'll either need to kill him before this or increase your resistances a lot.
Intuitively I know when to dodge the chains, but as of yet I haven't consciously determined the warning signs for those. I'll let you know when I do. He will only send out chains if you are more than half a screen away. Try to team up with a tanky character on your runs, if the butcher is occupied in melee range, he will not bother to send out the chains. This may work with the templar as well, but the templar will go down pretty quick from the hits.
There are two health wells in his room that refill pretty quickly, and you have health potions.
Honestly, just dodge his hook and alternate between health wells and potions for regaining HP from the AoE Chains.
This.
f you are doing it solo he always follows the same pattern in regards to his abilities as well so you should be able to SS everytime, My biggest problem was I had a kite build set up for farming that didn't have enough dps to beat out the soft enrage. Quick respec for my last act 1 farming to where I had impale and marked for death and I got the 2 minute kill on him. (29k health, 18k dmg without Sharpshooter up).
If you can stack enough resis or vita to survive 1 hit from his aoe chain, your golden.
My tactic; Throw down a caltrops right when fight starts, back up until you've got that full middle platform between you and him ( I use the templar to rush him so he stays where he spawns). I then try to use my entire hatred bar with nether tentacles (best dps skill to use on him). That won't kill him but it usually gets him down to 2/3 or less. Now it's just kiting time. I don't have SS on my bar because he points before he throws out his hook, so I just keep running. Vault past the fires or past his charge. It's a good idea to use rain of vengeance with the stun beasts on him right after he charges, to keep him there longer. I also use entangling shot w/ justice is served as my generator to slow him and get my hatred up to full.
basicly as others have said side step the stun chain, pop ss if you get caught. ss the fire and try to stick to the corners for easy moving w/o vault. pot/pool the aoe chains if you dont dodge. and the best tip i can give you with this build is when you see that hes about to charge start casting ele arrow at his destiation, youll get aton of hits in on him that way.
I finally killed Butcher on Inferno yesterday after 2.5 hours of trying Here's what I did.
1. I find that dual wielding hizzies is pretty meh for anything on Inferno. You gotta hit them hard when you can so they can't regen while you run around/kite.
2. At the start of the fight, run all the way down, and spam your biggest damagers. I personally used Elemental Arrow w/ Nether Tentacles rune.
3. At max range, his hook cannot pull you in, and never use your CD's to avoid this, cos 1), Max range doesn't reach you, and 2), You can just strafe and it will miss.
4. After hook, the next animation is GUARANTEED to be the AOE chains. SS out of it and run to the opposite side of the room. Start dpsing again when you reach the absolute end of the room for more DPS uptime.
5. You will never run out of Hatred. Elemental Arrow costs 10, Bat + Mark of Death = 6 regen per sec, 1 regen per sec as base, so that's a minimum of 7 Hatred per sec, and by the time you hit 30% Hatred left, it's time to run again, and by the time you reach the other end, you're full on Hatred again (Also while not critting and running, your SharpShooter stacks continue going up, giving you nice crits each time you do have time to attack!)
7. I didn't bother stacking Vit or having any sort of HP. You will be losing so much damage you'll hit the soft enrage with too many fire floors, and Act 2 is like crazy, everything one shots you anyway, so your newly bought Vit gear is useless already
8. I had 18k HP and 22-24k Damage unbuffed (without Sharpshooter). Then I bought a 2h Crossbow, 926 damage and got some Crit Damage gear and my DPS went up to 59k buffed. (I killed butcher with my older weap, a 700 damage+ Bow) Each crit was about 60-75k on average, and just a few hits is enough so you just continue running
Huh, I just didn't have much trouble with the Butcher on Inferno on my WD.
I had the health to survive his aoe spiked chains attack, so I guess that's your issue? Equip a shield. Once you get hit by it, just run to a well and heal up. Avoid the hook and the charge and stay out of fire. I highly recommend running with the Templar if you aren't already and spec him for stun and taunt because his heals won't do you much good. Just give him some solid VIT rings/amulet with a solid shield with VIT and a weapon with VIT. All this just to make sure he's alive when you need him.
Beyond that? Practice. If you're still having trouble identifying his pattern, step it back down to Hell or Nighmare even just to learn his behavior, then try again. He functions exactly the same regardless of difficulty, so it's a safer and cheaper way to get good practice in.

Oh pitiful shadow lost in the darkness,
Bringing torment and pain to others.
Your damned soul wallowing in your sin.
Perhaps... it is time to die.
5. You will never run out of Hatred. What are you on about? Bat gives 3 and base is 4. That's 7 per second. Marked for Death is not Hatred regen per scond, but Hatred regen on hit, 3 hatred on hit.
Sorry, no idea how I used all the wrong numbers >.< But the strat works anyway
I did this yesterday quite easily - I have decent but not amazing gear and only using a modest 740 damge X-Bow. Got the brief butchering achi obviously and didn't have any major issues. Used elemental arrow/tentacles & hungering plus SS/vault/strafe/sentry.
After charge I would move close-ish to him to 'force' multi-chains and SS to avoid.
Well, finally got him^^ Isn't that hard once you're able to semi-predict his moves and time the SS to not get hit. Now it's act 2 that's kind of hard to deal with...

I've been trying to jump around and smoke screen, but I always die to his ranged AOE ability.
I'm currently sitting at 15,5 k dps and 25k health.
Do you guys have sick reaction time, or do you have any special tricks to not get downed by that ability?
Also if your having a issue with the mini enrage where all of the ground turns to fire. The bottom of the platform all the way agains the wall in the left corner of the octagon if standing there you dont take damage from it.
Hope it helps
