Anyone else feel they screwed up this runestone by converting it to lightning damage? When they first revealed the talent calculator, the golden runestone simply reduced the hatred cost. Now, in addition to reducing the hatred cost, it converts the damage to lightning. I think Multishot will be a staple for multi-targets again in D3, and I would love reducing the hatred cost so it can be used early and often. But converting it to lightning might cause some issues in later difficulties when running into lightning-immune/resistant mobs. The crimson runestone increases Multishots damage, but remains at a high hatred cost of 20 and personally I'd rather just spam it
I suppose one could always switch out the runestone when running into that resistant mob, but it is yet to be seen if switching the rune in the skill also triggers the 30 second cooldown (it most likely will)

(this build was before D3 launched... looking back on it now - i had no idea what i was doing)
I noticed a few skills that have runes which change the damage type (among other changes). I kind of like the idea, but at the same time it could be a bit of an annoyance in the higher difficulties (even though we know no enemies will be fully immune to any type of damage).

Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.
I think they made this choice to increase the difficulty of the game and, at the same time, give us the chance to diversify our attacks.
If a skill is too effective (read as overpowered) it wil become a MUST HAVE and thus reduce the number of buids.
But converting it to lightning might cause some issues in later difficulties when running into lightning-immune/resistant mobs.
But not converting it to lightning might cause some issues in later difficulties when running into physical resistant mobs.
there is no such thing as immune monsters in D3. and there never will be. blizzard has said this was a fail part of D2 and immune monsters will NOT be making a come back.
which is a great thing :). so now you can build 100% towards one element and be fine. just when you run into that specific enchanted monster you will do half dmg, thats all. like i plan on using a build like this:
~Dr. Poison~
great for survivability and great dmg output. and some physical dmg in there just in case i run into poison enchanted

Convert the damage in lightning allows you to fully pierce the enemie's physical resistance. This might be a advantage greater then reduces damage against lightning mobs.
Uh, I like that WD build a lot I'll bookmark it and try something similar, now that I know immunes are not coming to D3. Everything was poison-immune in d2 hell, iirc -.-
ya exactly, made being a PSN necro suck even though it was fun. thank god for no immunes!

Yes and no. I have noticed that Elemental Arrow is very efficient at clearing out lines of enemies and I have a feeling that a "rocket" build can put out some amazing AOE with even single target attacks like Rapid Fire. I would ask, what situation are you finding yourself in? Encircled by mobs or are they in a straight line in a hallway? I think the mainstay AOE for DH is much more subjective to the situation than people may initially think. From the footage we have seen of multi shot it does appear to have a limited range as well.
20 Hatred is also not all too high.. and last time I checked (just now I logged onto the beta) it costs 15 Hatred.
Personally 15 is spammable and I bet you will find yourself using this skill a little less than what you might think. Without a link to a build you are using it is still hard to say though. If this is your only AOE than I would say just go red(or whatever one slows them down, blue if I recall. Bnet is down or else I would check)

Converting it to lightning is actually a good change, the biggest thing is that mobs won't have immunities, and while we still don't know what Inferno will be like in terms of max resistances, I still see 75% being a good number to assume. They didn't want to make resistances a moot point, and anything less than 50% would make including resistances at all fairly silly. i do think that it will be higher though, not having immunities is great, but even as lowe as 50% just makes it more of a hastle and there is no reason to do anything but fill your build with one damage type. They don't want the days of REQUIRED two or three elements to succeed to return, but I don't imagine they will still want to trivialize resistances completely.

It could ultimately benefit you if you run into someone with low lightning resist.
