In depth guide for Inferno Ranged Barbarian

  • #121
think he means the following (i have this issue too).

when you have more then 1 enemy, ricochet rune is rune is fine and gives kinda nice fury (you hit 3 times with 1 throw, if it's crit, you can get 3 times fury).

if you have only 1 target, for example a boss like warden or butcher, it happens quiet often that you end without fury

but if you take "mighty throw" as rune for weapon throw, the fury gain looks much better on single target.

    any clues about it?

btw. i sit at 59,5%chc, 421%cdmg, 2216str, 100k dps, so chc shouldn't be a fury generation issue at all xD

You can use sprint with Run like the Wind and just circle the boss or just tank it with Ignore Pain to generate fury. If you don't use Ignore Pain then just use that slot for fury generation

About using Sprint/RltW: Is it just a personal preference? Or do you think it's really that good? I've tried it for about 3-4 farm runs and I like Leap way better. Having a mechanic to escape basically every situation adds more utility than the +movespeed and cyclones I've found.

What are your thoughts on that?

Edit: Also I've found that using Leap makes handling your Fury easier than using Sprint. I've constantly run out of Fury when I used Sprint since you can never be sure to hit enough enemies/land enough critical hits to ensure enough Fury generation.
Using Leap adds another damage reduction cooldown for hard hitting and fast mobs and can generate huge amounts of Fury when jumping into a pack of enemies.

See that never happened to me, that's why I used it. Leap can be good as a second Ignore Pain sure, but the thing is with Ricochet you almost have to get Into the Fray unless you have really high CHC, and the rune synergy between that and Run like the Wind is great.

    Thanks :)
Sadly not very interested in the game very much. Will probably play after changes if some happen.
I was thinking of trying to run bosses with like no items or whatever, I'll see.

    Hello there

I have few questions and i hope it doesn't bother you ^^"

1- About after patch 1.0.3 when i use ricochet rune i sometimes end with no fury , but when it goes with mighty weapon this doesn't happen , what is the reason , do mighty weapon crit more or what is the reason?

2- my dps window says that i have more dps when i use axe as main hand , and i have less dps with sword (the crit chance was 35 before using the axe) , the reason i switch to axe as main hand is because i was using sword + shield (with 10 crit chance) , so when i wanted to switch to DW i didn't want to lose the 10% crit chance , so i bought an axe and used it as main hand.
In short my question is are you sure sword as main better for DW , and why?

The reason why your axe gives you more dps is because you have low CHC. The damage from crit chance is a curve that goes down the more you get. Also the weapons might have different stats, you didn't really specify much.

I was wrong about this, i didn't notice my offhand was mighty weapon at that time , the sword gives more now as main hand , the only thing that bothers me is idk if i can trust the damage in my stat window (i can add more crit dmg but i will lose crit chance to be below 40% but my dps will increase in the window) am i able to trust the stat window xD.

This is a great build, definitely more fun than being a tank, for sure, and it gives me the option to do either. Just looking for a little advice on what gear I could improve the most for the lowest cost out of what I have right now. I've been able to get through Inferno in group play pretty easily for the most part, but I'm still having a little trouble soloing. Bosses like Ghom and Raganoth (sp?) are bitches.

    DPS: 52.6k (Without Battle Rage)
    Health: 22k
    Resistances: 244-331 (Without War Cry)
    Armor: 5422 (Without War Cry)

I've still stuck to the Ancient Spear with rage flip/War Cry with impunity build as my resistances are lacking, so I'm very hesitant to switch War Cry to Charge! When I solo I use the soundrel for his chc boost since mine is a bit low, at 52% normally, 55% with him.

    Here's my gear:

I've also noticed that most people don't post about their helper. As mentioned earlier, I use the Scoundrel for his 3% boost to chc, and recently I decided to make him just generally a nuisance, using as much % to ___ items as I could manage to get. There's only one ring that has a % to on it, and you can apparently only equip one of the same legendary ring (didn't realize that) so I went with a vanilla 9% attack speed ring in order to more frequently proc the effects. (Same thing with the bow, went for highest attack speed I could get with still a good effect proc). He gets 1.68 attacks per second, with shooting 3 arrows at a time it actually wreaks a lot of chaos on groups of normal enemies, not to mention that his 51k health lets him take a few hits.

Should probably keep your CHC over 40%, sure you get more damage but you can DPS if you have no fury!

As for your gear, you could easily find a new Chest / Pants. At least cheaper than upgrading other pieces. You could just aim for higher stats and no res on chest for example, since light res is pretty useless anyway.

You could also upgrade your scoundrels bow if you like using him, I'm sure you can find higher DPS with similar stats (chance to fear is probably the best one you have there).

Your build is fine, but you should try sprint out if you haven't, see if you like it.

Ah, the lit resistance was just a coincidence on those originally, though I did take your advice and switch them both out for better pieces. I've got 2k higher dps and 30 better all res now, so not bad.

I also tried sprint out for a bit (though not enough to really make a solid judgement yet). So far I like the huge increase in mobility, but I'm more fragile, having to use Charge! instead of Impunity, since my resistances aren't the best. I'll experiment around with it a little more.

Thanks again for the build, I very much appreciate having a second option for my barb.

So, I tried something a little different with run with the wind:

Instead of going with ricochet, I went with mighty throw, and because I did that, I could go with the rune that gives 30% damage as opposed to the regular 15% instead of additional rage generation, since the changes to the chance for no escape generating fury on single targets didn't seem to get worsened for mighty throw, just for ricochet. (I believe someone mentioned this already).

With the increased mobility and, to some extent, multiple target dps offered by run like the wind, combined with the much harder-hitting combination of mighty-throw and the 30% damage rune on the battle cry, this build works even better, I think. (I've found it actually helps mow down champions and elites much more easily than before and dealing with large numbers of weaker enemies is a little more annoying, but very much doable). Because I'm not having fury generation problems on single targets from ricochet, I can continue to use Impunity with War Cry, which makes me even better able to take a few hits.

So, for those like me who are hesitant to give up Impunity in favour of Charge! I encourage you to give Mighty Throw when combined with Run Like the Wind another try.

This is pretty much the 1.02 build. It works but it isn't as good as it was. You actually lower your mobility with that build, not increase it. Ignore Pain was incorporated to help with the lack of resist, and helps generating fury as well as leeching up hp versus reflect damage.

What's a good version of the build to use if you are playing with a tank? You haven't updated the builds to use in the OP.

*I still use Mighty Throw with a tank in front of me Otherwise just use the solo build. This is pretty much the pre 1.03 build because you don't need to kite as much with a tank, and it's the best damaging build, esp if you have other peeps covering the AoE.''

This guide is awesome, thanks for the help and now my third 60 is farming act 2.
  • #137
Hey, I've been playing around with this build for some time.. Doing whirl now, because it is simply so fast when it comes to farming.
Tho I really enjoy playing ranged barb:
    Builds I normally use:
    http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#fXRikP!YfZ!ZabYcZ

I'm at 50~ crit, no loh or lifesteal when using my 2h.
    Example video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnRtL3vA6xs&list=UUQzhJa-2kIkKPRqt220-fbQ&index=2&feature=plcp
I'm using leap instead of Ancient Spear because I find leap way better when it comes to "outskill" a npc lol. Well basically survive, jump into for fury and etc. Ancient Spear could be a pain in the arse now and then if I accidentially did a wrong move, also I can move/jump out of wallers, traps and generally be more on the move.

Ignore pain to simply gain back hp or be immortal for 5 seconds, usually mixed with wotb when needed vs some packs in act 3 and 4 if they got insane affixes.

Using ricochet because I couldn't live without it, it was just SO much better then pure damage.
Mind you I am using a 2h, so I hit slow but hard. And then I need more aoe usually, and it is basically 300% vs 130% when fighting elites.

Also been using this build when I'm using my loh & lifesteal dual wield weps.
    (800~ loh, 2%~ life steal)
I go from 71-73k~ damage buffed to 45-50k~ (can't remember hehe)
    http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#fSXikP!YfZ!ZZaYcZ
I'm skipping ignore pain here because I got enough life back etc, and I'm able to move faster away from white trash etc and just farm packs if needed as I do with whirlwind build.

Really fun playing around with ranged barb, also I can see this be a truckgood build for pvp with slow etc. Maybe fury can be a problem, but you can work around that somehow or by getting hit I guess.

The video is "kinda old" I'm better geared now, but ye I was able to clear it all w/o problems or well some pre 1.0.3 and after with that gear on the vid if I'm not mistaken.

    =)

Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.

Ye I'm sorry about that if you are referring to my video.. It is quite low, you need to up your volume alot.

    Hey, thanks for replies.

I'm sure whirling is much faster than this build. The idea behind it was to have a cheap build that could clear inferno before nerfs by abusing the ranged aspect of the game and thus being able to skip on defensive stats, which are quite expensive.

By the way I'm playing on making a video to help gearing up the build for very cheap for starters.
