I am so excited for this game to be coming out. I was looking over the new traits and the skills they changed. The Barb is gonna be such a powerhorse in d3. I've love the barb to death, but man is he gonna be overpowered.
- (HOTA)Hammer of the Ancients- (lvl5) does %275 weapon damage + 36 physical damage with %45 chance of critical strike.
-Bash, at lvl 5 having %260 weapon damage, with a chance for knockback.
Both of the attacks are pretty quick too, no real recovery time, and each only cost 1 fury orb. Using Ancient Spear to drag em in and smashing with the Hammer of the Ancients is gonna be godly.
Compared to the other melee class in the game the Monk. Who has fast attacking combo moves, but his damage is nothing compared to the barb.
-Way of the hundred fists,
first- %114 weapon damage
second- 8 strikes for %8 weapon damage
third- area attack for %90 weapon damage.
-Exploding Palm
first- %45 weapon damage
second- %70 weapon damage
third- bleeds for 80 dmg over 7 seconds.causes 200% more dmg when moving. If target dies it explodes dealing 60-100% of its life
Now that seems completely lopsided to me. The barb could do more damage with HOTA than the monk could do with 7 attacks from way of hundred fists. Plus HOTA has a %45 chance of crit with +36 dmg? That is amazing they made a skill with so much damage and crit. If you stack your traits right and get a good weapon and that barb is unstoppable
If the monk is attacking 8 times for only %8 of his weapon damage, he is never gonna kill anything, let alonse take on a Barb. i dont care how fast he attacks. And i know exploding palm does some damage, but the first two hits dont even do a %100 of his weapon damage. That is incredibly weak.
Know i love the barb, and i hope they dont nerf him cause i cant wait to give a beat down to some witch doctors, But i want it to be kinda evenly matched.
It's hard to say without much information and I don't know where you are getting your numbers from. For one, the barb does not even use "balls" of fury anymore. His fury will grow a set pool and different skills will cost different amounts such as 15, 25, or 75 fury. So energy consumption may help balance this. Secondly, we have no idea what the cooldowns are on any of these skills. It is very possible that the hammer has a very long cooldowns. All in all, I do not fear any one class being OP'd. I'm sure there will be specific builds that are but that's a different story. For the most part, balance s a matter of numbers and can be handled with some calculations to see total damage output over x amount of time and making sure every class equals the same amount of damage.

Not to mention the hammer is a single target spell, so it wouldn't be the greatest during your average mob-killing (not that that really matters all that much). It would probably end up being a boss-fighting skill (where other classes have similar high-damage, single target skills), or a pvp skill (where cooldowns/pvp damage modifiers could be used to balance it as a nuke you can use once in a while). And also you're not taking into consideration that the monk can blend combos, so you could have a 3 part attack where you use the strongest part of different combos, and as Scyber pointed out we don't know any fury/spirit costs, or the effects of runes on certain skills.
These arent even comparable. The monks 3 combo skills are going to take 3 times as long to cast than the time it takes for the barb to cast hammer of the ancients.
The monk has to do his first 2 combo skills to gain spirit for his 3rd hard hitting attack.
While the barb can do bash or Hammer of the Ancients, over and over. (depending on the cooldown, if there is any)
Both have to gain Spirit/Fury before they can do their attacks, but the barb can gain fury be being attacked or a succesful hit. While the monk can only gain spirit by doing his first 2 combo attacks. Plus when the barb hits with his skill (bash, HOTA) he is going to get almost enough fury back that the skill cost in the first place.
2 weak attacks to get 1 strong attack or 1 big strong attack

Ya, I agree that Hammer of the Ancients(HotA) is a single hit spell, but Blizzard made a statment that it might be changed to a multie hit spell. But still im talking in end game PvP the barb might be the powerhouse, I know the wizard and the monk might do way better in PvE. I pretty sure after watch the Arena PvP battle from blizzards combat is not going to be anything like WOW, its gonna be fast paced like D2 was.
Ya, the monk can use any combo skill, But it still has to do 1 hit, 2 hit, 3 hit. Every time he is going to want to do some damage he is going to have to do a 3 part attack. I have a very strong feeling this is going to get predictable and boring. Even with mixing up the combo's I dont thinks its going to be effective. When i would be dueling, i would know there is a 1-2-3 hit, and would try to knockback, stun, slow, or leap outa the way before the 3 hit came.
I highly doubt the barb or any class is going to be OP in the end result.

Either way, using Hammer of the Ancients a shitload with my barb with some massive two hander is something I'm looking forward to.
Ohh yea 2h are the best. The barb has traits for, 1h w/ shield, 2H, or duel wield. And some traits for: Axes,Maces,Swords,Spear/Polearm. Going to be able to customize the barb to our likings.
i love the Arena Diablo 3 video on you tube. You can see the 2 barbs going at it, and it looks insane. The battle is so fast paced. There attacks are like a rouge amazingly quick, but hit like a barbarian, with so many cool special effects, Its going to be awsome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCKtBR91KsY

Completely off-topic, but I love the way the Wizard's resourse pool looks.
Yea it makes me excited to see the other resource systems, both how they look and how they function.
And I'm pretty sure the barb doesn't have Spear/Polearm/other weapon skills, but its more just that you can do dual wield, 2-hander, or 1h and shield, but any weapon types within those restrictions don't have their own specific traits/trees. A lot of the time in D2 those skills were just annoying anyways because it sometimes forces you to use a weapon thats worse than other weapons you've picked up.

The Barb does have 4 different traits for weapons. (the spear/polearm trait was what i was talking about)
Again. I have no idea where you are getting any of your information from. Care to share a link. ?

So far the only 100% confirmed traits (and skills of course) can be found in our wiki, right here. Can't find the info in that post very credible. And everything is still subject to change as Sixen pointed out.

BTW, HOTA might become a multi-strike skill with rune effect.....so many possibilities..gotta love it!
116 + 64 + 90 (AOE) = 180% Single Target and 90% AOE so thats >= 270% Weapon Damage
Exploding Palm is pretty bad ass too honestly... Its a Corpse Explosion that can be used on a living Monster instead of a corpse.
YOur comparing 3 attacks of the monk to 1 attack from the barb. Not even the same.
Hammer of the Ancients is %275 wpn dmg, %45 crit chance, +36 physical dmg, That%45 crit is going to be the difference
Hundred Fists is %116 wpn dmg, %64 wpn dmg, %90 wpn dmg aoe
