- A group of heroes begins a quest to defeat Diablo and his brothers. The heroes defeat the demoness Andariel and journey east, following the Wanderer.
- The Dark Wanderer completes his transformation into Diablo; Mephisto is destroyed beneath the jungles of Kurast by the band of heroes.
- The heroes follow Baal to Mount Arreat for the final conflict between man and the last of the Prime Evils. Although the heroes defeat Baal, his demonic army continues to advance.
Diablo one says a lone hero, even though there were 3 in total... why the hell is it a band of heroes in d2....... that means there is no cannon hero in d2... that seems odd to me, especially when in one of the d2 cut scenes Marius is like "i heard later that a great warrior defeated him and destroyed the soul stones" something like that anyways
also this part makes it seem as though the exile was not planned by the 3 prime evils.
"Led by Azmodan and Belial, many of the Hells' lesser demons rise up against the Prime Evils in a rebellion that culminates in the Dark Exile. Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal are exiled to Sanctuary from the Burning Hells."
when we quite clearly heard Izual say the following: Tyrael was a fool to have trusted me, for you see it was I who told Diablo and his brothers about the soul stones and how to corrupt them. It was I who helped the Prime Evils mastermind their own exile to your world. A plan we set in motion so long ago cannot be stopped by any mortal agency, Hell itself is poised to spill forth into your world like a tidal wave of blood and nightmares. You and all your kind, are doomed.
Noone says there needs to be a single beast mode hero to take down da 3 bro's

1) yes there were three class playable in D1 but only one of them (combining D1 and D2 storylines) actually got to diablo, killed him, imbedded the Soul Stone into his head, walked out of the temple and became the Wanderer. (look through other threads to find out what might have happened to the Sorcerer and the Rogue.)
2)I'm not quite sure exactly why its "a band of heroes in D2". my guess since D2 was more a multi-player game than D1 was.

yes yes i know the sorcerer became the fake summoner or whatever the hell his name is, and the rogue became the blood raven. but still in all likelihood would 7 people be able to make it all the way through hell and back literally to kill all 3 prime evils... i think not, i can see perhaps 3 of them coming through alive but all 7? like cmon....
Hero or Heroes, who cares. They are just being general. A band of heroes is just a group of 'heroic' people, and whether they all survive or not depends on the hero's skills or luck.
Yes, the Three masterminded their own exile. You can't have an exile without others rising up and defeating you. They wanted Belial and Azmodan to get angry at them and defeat them.

the only problem i have with it is that they are changing the 'lore' however slight it may be i dont like it. This is why i hate the books with a burning passion, it drastically changes the feel of the Diablo universe and changes a good deal of lore.
the only major lore change i've seen is that the humans are sort of a hybrid between a demon and an angel (from the Sin War Trilogy) and that Sanctuary itself was created by an almost godlike Inarius. I havent read the Veiled Prophet yet (waiting till amazon ships it over) but even so it doesnt look like the Overlord monster from the Diablo 1 booklet is kept as official lore (together with the fate of Inarius as recorded in there).
Perhaps it's heroes simple because you can bring hirelings with you. But I suspect it is because they are trying to be as generic as possible and include the multiplayer community.
Aw heck, give Blizzard a break. They just want to push the multi-player bit that's all.
If they had had hero in the singular then party-game people could have come on here and also complained that their party games were discriminated against too.
Can't make everyone happy all the time.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
As far as I know it always was heroes. The 5 heroes from D2 whom had defeated the Lord of Terror, therefor assumably blizzard canonized that a group of players defeated Diablo (probably a wink at blizzards fanatism over a battle.net game). Even the official wallpapers depicted that.
in that wallpaper the barbarian is dead, the necro is 1 second away from having his head torn off, the druid has been vaporized along with the assassin who tried to fuck diablo in the ass only to find herself sucked into diablo himself where she instantly caught fire and vaporized... the amazon and sorcercess look scarred out of their minds, probably because they are low on health and mana.... HOWEVER the paladin is strolling in with all his might and glory, and holy power bestowed upon him by the heavens, so radiant is he that he glows with the power of light itself. He is poised to slay the demon Diablo, and thus free the world from tyranny and destruction. So surely the Paladin is the canonical hero....
Num3n, that was just a random conceptual artwork and had no bearing on the story.
In the manual it is clearly stated that warriors from all across Sanctuary became aware of the Three Prime Evils and attempted to route the evils plaguing their world. Necromancers, Amazons, Druids, etc, all fought against the demons.

Be it through hallowed grounds or lands of sorrow
All in the Forger's wake is left bereft and fallow
Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?
The road's goal is the dark Origin of Being
But be wary through what thickets it winds.

They create the lore, Blizzard already said that the books are the canon source of lore.
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
