well i was thinking about moderators and i was thinking that you should moderate your own thread (close it, delete it, delete posts, etc) so the other moderators didn't have to worry so much about each thread.
what do you guys think?

You should be able to close/delete it. But not delete other people's posts. Not so much so the Moderators don't have to worry about stuff as much, but because about half (Not naming names) don't moderate.
Don't worry about the moderators, fbim. It's their job.
But no, you should not have the power to moderate your own thread.
what about closing or deleting it

Once you create a thread, it belongs to the community. Closing it would be bad, deleting it would be worse. You are free to delete you own posts at your will. But if we have people just closing threads because they don't like the way they're going, as opposed to closing it for reasons of spam, trolling, or flamewars, things would just get a little crazy around here.
What you are still free to do is if you do not like the way you're thread is going, you may PM a moderator and request that they close the thread. The mods have done this before for people. Rarely do they reopen a thread though.
Alot of threads are worth archiving. There is alot of information to be referenced, so I think it's important we keep them open and deny them from being deleted. Most of the time when a user requests for their thread to be locked, the mods usually do it. It's not a complicated, or difficult setup. If you want your thread locked, asked. No need to allow a bunch of kids to have power over locking or deleting discussions. Because if someone chooses to delete the thread, there goes post count, there goes any credible information person X may have gave, then people will start wondering what the heck happened to the thread.
Mods are nominated to manage threads and posts, we gave them the power to decide whether our own threads should remain open or closed. With the exception of Ferret, I have no idea which genius made that guy a mod.
Forums are an Oligarchy. That is, power is in the hands of a few. And always will be.
SOme might wish more a more communist approach, everyone is equal, but there will be issues with people not like what is said in their threads. Heck even I have done that from time to time, but that was mostly to do with the RP threads, I'll edit out the posts that aren't to do with it such as people mocking it or something.
If you want one of your threads closed, just ask.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

but why can't you delete threads your own threads? or at least close them?

You mean besides the reasons we've already been stating?
We simply don't trust the aggregate with having that ability. And since it is very seldom that someone wants their entire thread closed or deleted, we have a sufficient amount of people to do those things when necessary. I suggest you get over it.

Well, the idea of the deleting of threads was flawed. Everyone agrees. But what about closing. And then the moderators would have the ability to overwrite the average user's ability to close.
And then make sure that A) you have to have X posts, and if you can't be trusted with such things, the moderators can de-check you on one of there control panels, thus deactivating your ability to close your own threads. Thus allowing the...less then intellegent people from closing in an ignorant fashion.
Yes, it would be dumb if someone starts an argument or something, and then closes/deletes it because they're losing.
That's why I said that deleting was lost from the start. Closing has promise though. As I said, with a certain number of posts (Giving the post count a use...) one could be able to close there own threads, given they arn't "tagged" by the moderators. "Tagged" meaning they are not mature enough to handle such power and responsiblity and have had the ability taken away via a check in tehre profile that only moderators would see.

In my oppinion, at least.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
