THIS ISNT DIABLO 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you may have missed the point. The point is not "Diablo 2 was a better game", or even close to that. The graphics, gameplay, combat fluidity were all vastly improved by Diablo 3. However, the lack of being able to work towards specific gear/goals makes the game feel very lackluster after a few weeks of playing. That's really it.
I also played WoW for nearly 10 years, and have recently quit. However, with WoD's lack of flying and the new garrisons, I will absolutely be coming back to play. We have differing opinions, there is no need to post angrily over it.
How can you not work toward your goals in diablo 3...because it takes longer than you'd like?
It's not the length that I am bothered by. I don't care if it would take an entire year to get something I really wanted and had to work for. The issue is there is a chance that I will literally never see something that I am searching for (i.e. Tal's Set). Now that same extremely low chance was probably the same if not worse in Diablo 2. The difference being in all that time I was searching for Tal's Set, maybe I found IK set. Now with this newly found IK set, I can trade into getting the Tal's Set that I sought after for so long.
It's easy to compare Diablo 3 to Diablo 2 because well... it's the same series, but it's also in my case a game that I am very familiar with. I hear PoE has a really strong trade system as well, but I am not familiar with it so the comparison would not be based on experience, which I believe is crucial.
I'd take D3 loot system over D2 "work you way torwards gear by trading" anytime.
I mean seriously, how many hours did you even spent in D2 starting with low end items to get high eng gear.. It's not even comparable. I played hours upon hours of D2, and I never had anything more than "fine" by the end of a ladder season.
But, I do get your point that its only based on luck so far. You can play 10 hours and find nothing except working you way towards better gems. And that sucks (but is still 1000000x better than D2 was in terms of giving back for your time).
I really think D3 would infinitely benefit from a system that either guarantee to rewards you appropriately over time (more than just x% chance of finding x items) or rewards you appropriately for playing at higher difficulty level (right now its only efficient if you do T1 until you can 1 shot or so T2, then T3...).
Just play a HC character. When you die, all of your goals will be reset.
It does sound like you have never played HC. You dont play HC to die, you play to survive. Even if you die your goals stay the same, you just have to work a bit harder to get to them.
Played HC a lot, and yes I know the goal is not to die...OP mentioned game is not challenging...and HC adds another dimension to gameplay. He also mentions pursuit of goals, and HC and SC goals are different. IMO SC goals are BIS gear and T6. HC goal first and foremost is to survive, and it changes your gameplay, builds, etc. I guess if he is looking for BIS gear and doesn't have a lot of time (self included), then end game SC goals are an unreasonable goal/expectation. Playing HC might provide a new perspective and keep the game fresh for him.
You're too concerned with the goal and not the journey. I farmed Mephisto with my CL/FO Sorc for countless hours. I even had an Enigma for maximum farming speed but ya know what? I had everything on my sorc and farmed him to gear other classes. Don't be in such a hurry to reach your goals because you'll get bored a lot faster. If you don't have the patience or don't enjoy the journey, then you'll need to look elsewhere.
it's ok, my friends and I also quit this game after a couple weeks. A few of my friends and I use to play D2 for hours upon hours back in middle school/ HS (2000) but now it's just not the same. We concluded that with this game, it's more of an addiction rather than having fun. Many others have said the same thing and you just do the same thing over and over and over for an item that will help you kill sh*t faster. Maybe my friends and I are all just getting a little bit older and games just aren't the same. Oh well, it was fun for a few weeks Diablo! Maybe it's time I start picking up on Golf or something lol...
thus you can't really gear up another class by playing your primary one.
Crafting, gambling, and reforging beg to differ.
Of course if you've tunnel-visioned onto how horrible everything is, I wouldn't expect you to figure out how to gear up another class by farming on their "main" in the current system.
the loot you get now is streamlined to your class, thus you can't really gear up another class by playing your primary one.
Played ~200 hours on my wizard, found 6 set items, 3 of those were non-wizard (and the other 3 each of one of the wizard's sets, so no set bonus yet). Combined with shared loot from the people I play with, I have gathered quite some equipment for all other 5 classes. Filled some gaps with crafting, and now they're all ready to go for Torment (my monk even T6) despite the fact that 99% of the time I played my wizard.
The OP point about challenges is totally wrong in my opinion. Go play T6 hardcore and tell me it's not challenging. You have just grown older and this probably does not suit you anymore. You are talking about d2 as if it had a stable loot system or anything... All of the economy was driven by bots and dupes. You would NEVER have any of the gear you ultimately wanted without other people doing that shit for you. If you want D3 to be like this too, then it will turn into the monster it already was with the auction house where everythign has a price tag and people sell unidentified legendaries by the hundreds...
"I spend 5k bloodshards and never get a legendary"... Seriously? You are going to use that as an argument? First of all i don't believe you. 5k blood shards and not a single legendary is just a lie and besides, even if you don't get a legendary it only justifies your need to farm more which you seem to enjoy so much according to your nostalgic d2 glorification. And don't tell me that trading is the main reason why that does not apply because you can play in a party and trade all you want.
You probably watch other people on YT / Twitch / forums and then have an idea of what your game is supposed to be like where in reality you have no chance to meet those standards because you don't have time. In d2 you were a noob without the ability to see other "hardcore" players farming like crazy so you didn't have a twisted image of what the game "should be like"...
Anyway, the game is fine. You don't enjoy it anymore. Move on.
I found numerous wands / ceremonial knifes on my barb / dh.
I found a sick 1h xbow on my wiz.
I found a legendary Daibo on my wiz.
While playing one class, you can get gear for your other characters. Fact.
No one was counting BT as class specific sets and neither should you. When someone says i found only 6 set peices, i'm pretty sure he does not include all the BT / Traveller's / Compass rose / whatever.
