Based off of Malakai's Lightning Wizard, I threw on some T&Ts and tried EE instead of paralysis on the PTR. With Unity, stuns are not as important. It's respectable with the new depth diggers and with better optimized gear, viable. The hydras really help with the single target DPS downfall of the original build. More fun than MM/Conflag too.
This has been my goto solo spec for a while now so I was trying it out in greater rifts and when I got as far as I could, the level 27 rift boss dropped these. Well it was late but decided to run a T6 rift and although the density sucked, I was impressed by the additional damage. I'm sure I'll find a Fire % Andariel helm on the PTR since I've never seen one on live and that will really boost the damage.
I put this up on Reddit and wanted to share here. It's definitely a work in progress but fun none the less.
Having played my wizard for 99% of the time since 2.0 was released, I’ve collected quite an assortment of gear. Things with interesting affixes sit in my stash or on a mule because I like trying everything. My favorite character from D2 was my CL/FO sorc with Enigma. I could farm almost anything as cold and lightning immunity were rare on the same MOB. Recently, Jaetch highlighted http://youtu.be/AunTA2m9mqg Malakai’s Lightning Wizard build which for the most part covered chain lightning as a build option however the dmg output wasn’t quite there comparable to fire builds. (Ya, big surprise I know) With elemental damage being the way it is, it’s unfortunate that we cannot make 2 different elements viable at higher torments. You could throw on a Wizardspike but it wouldn’t be meaningful in terms of damage.
In the back of my stash is a Shi Mizu’s Haori http://imgur.com/r2n1Sqy so I roll some sockets on it and give it a try. With a build http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#UiQjSO!ZfSV!ZZaacc like this, one would not have to focus on CC freeing up a 4th primary for life %, atk speed, or CDR. It’s not viable right now for me and expect to die a lot however it is quite fun to play. It turns a mindless slaughter fest into a game of chess. Avoiding health globes can be as challenging as fighting elites themselves but it all makes for some unique gameplay that I thought I would share. http://youtu.be/I9ZGyOHP0AM
This mainly stemmed from me finally getting a set of T&T gloves with no CC on them. I will say that +45% attack speed on the lightning hydras really helps with the lack of single target DPS electrocute has. I’m not thrilled about using the double Unity trick but it is really the only way to make this possible in T6. I’m still playing around with it and need more gear tailored to the spec but it’s something to do until patch 2.1 comes out. I was testing a few things in the video (other than dying) so it’s a bit slow.
Don't spend so much. Problem solved. If you didn't stock up or save enough before they closed the AH then that is your fault. You're not entitled to reroll every affix and upgrade every gem right out the gate so start pacing yourself.
You're too concerned with the goal and not the journey. I farmed Mephisto with my CL/FO Sorc for countless hours. I even had an Enigma for maximum farming speed but ya know what? I had everything on my sorc and farmed him to gear other classes. Don't be in such a hurry to reach your goals because you'll get bored a lot faster. If you don't have the patience or don't enjoy the journey, then you'll need to look elsewhere.
They didn't design the game for gold to be meaningless. A fresh player isn't supposed to be able to reroll affixes indefinitely or upgrade their gems instantly. You play, get some gold and materials, and decide if you should upgrade a gem or try to reroll an almost perfect legendary. If you stockpiled gold before the AH was disabled, then it's a luxury to be able to do this. It's not broken for those who don't have a lot of gold.
The costs aren't designed to drain billions from someone's wallet. It's designed for gradual progression.
Exploits? What on earth are you talking about? Pindleskin runs. Baal runs. I used to farm Mephisto with my Sorc all the time. It's not just Diablo - look at PoE. People farm Piety and maps for gear and exp. That is how these games are played! Effort + time = reward. There is no lazy in that equation.
So you "choose" to be competitive in this regard yet you feel "forced" to do things that are unfun because you chose to be competitive in the first place?
Sounds similar to fast food workers who "choose" to work a job at minimum wage yet feel it's unfair and wish to be paid double.
This is very interesting and thanks for sharing. I have been doing a lot of testing with a similar build but i'm using a wand and off hand. With the 4pc Tal set and 10 APoC, I am able to keep RoF and blizzard going. Tal Rasha's Unwavering Glare is especially nice as it adds 3 seconds to the blizzard duration so I use Stark Winter with it. 3 seconds may not seem like a lot however it gives me enough time to regen AP for another blizzard when I need it while still spamming RoF. The increased area and duration give me plenty of room to work with and it's very fun.
One thing to note is my sheet dps may be low but I play on MP6 and have no problems. 4.3% LL lets me ignore reflect dmg and my armor + resists are enough to keep me alive while I dodge fire, poison, etc. Most trash dies in one blizzard without having to cast anything else. I don't really need the hydra and have been messing around with teleport. Cold Blooded + Frostburns adds 50% dps but I am to the point where I'm scratching my head for the next upgrade. I'm keeping an eye out for a really nice set of gloves to try and replace the frostburns with as I'd love some more crit and CD.
I may pick up a cheap Skorn to try this out. I copied my character over to the PTR and it was insane how much faster things died with RoF so I am really looking forward to the patch. I think the Skorn may be the only option at higher MP since we will need as much LL as we can get to survive.
Every time you get a paragon level, look down at your empty exp bar and think about how it would have 3 more boxes filled if you were using an experience gem.
