Let me first preface this topic, by saying that I am enjoying myself and the overall experience I have had with this game. I think as of now there are more pro's than con's. At any rate, I'd like to share what I dislike about the game- and primarily what I miss about Diablo 2.
I miss being able to title my own games and join other people's titled games. Do not get me wrong, 70 percent of the games created in D2 were ISO, HRS FT, etc. And, the other 20 percent were baal run this, cow run that. Auction house is beautiful in that it allows us to get the item we need QUICK and has virtually eliminated any need for a specific trade game. Also, being able to join a game at a very specific quest is a very streamlined way of doing "runs" with others. I understand why blizzard went with this design philosophy.
However, I believe this system has destroyed the sense of community that I had in diablo 2. Perhaps this is why blizzard implemented you joining the general chat channel automatically at login. I can't tell you why, but I've not added a single person to my friends list since playing Diablo 3 aside from people I know personally that play the game. I understand that it's still very early, but back in the Diablo 2 days my friends list was full of people I'd met in the game world. Most friends I made were through trade games, run games, or occasionally I'd make a "friend" in a game with a goofy title.
I've been in a large number of games in diablo three where people have not spoken a single word. If someone does talk, it's usually "gotta go to town", etc. For whatever reason it might be, I think being able to create titled games somehow managed to create some sense of community in Diablo 2. I think not being able to do so in Diablo 3 has taken away from it.
I just figured I'd share and see if anyone else feels the same way I do.
The ah is brilliant imo but its to clunky, ive found a few channels on twitch.tv with live auctions which is blooming brilliant - as time and technologies adapt so will how people use these to enhance their gaming experience.
General chat will be getting patched so if you leave the channel then you stay out of the channel (thank god), but there is a cap of 100 people in the chat at any one time, the other day i was with a friend and he mentioned someone in trade selling a 1k+ dps bow - i didnt see this as we was in diff channels, he /w the guy for me and within 5minutes i had a new bow for 900k - amazing !
Not the greatest of ideas but, meh
The story is some what linear but its just like d2, farm farm farm regardless but all the people on my friends are people ive joined/public quested with, yes the quest being run isnt very personalized like the old battle.net but as time go's on, games adapt and change for ease of use and automation without the use of using clients to host/run games.
Its still very early, and alot of people need to get the idea of "this is a d2 expansion", this is nothing to do with d2 - its all new, it will take time for them to work the kinks out and adapt to the user base and what the users want.
Just look at starcraft, that was brilliant and is awesome now once they patched it a few times.
I imagine when Titan is released we will see the same situation with that game and its launch.
Never hold your expectations high on a new release game when the version before was so amazing.
in 3 weeks we've had 3 patches to fix a few things, and we have a semi big patch coming in the works which should make it slightly better - especially the ah and the limitations in effect now as a blue said "testing the capabilties of the ah"
The same thing happened to WoW with the LFD system.
It is faster to join a game and start to play with this system, you don't have to spend time looking for people. But on the other side you don't have to make friends, you won't need them again...
Main con for me is no PvP... Getting that new bad arse sword or w/e isnt any fun if its only use is to get the next bad arse sword... I wanna kill my friends w/ my loot!

You seem to get what I'm saying. Unless they changed their minds, Blizzard declared time and time again (particularly Jay) that the diablo series has always been a social game built around community, and one reason they made D3 online only was to further enhance and cement this social aspect.
Certainly, D3 is social. You have the possibility to interact with thousands of other players by buying and selling goods on the AH. You can also join games at any time where other people are questing in the same area you are. However, there's nothing personal about it. The best thing I think I can compare it to would be picking up a prostitute. Sure, you're interacting with a person, but i would imagine it's a very impersonal act. You spend money, get what you need, and get out.
On another note, it's a good thing I have a forum like this to interact with others. If anyone is looking for an 'online d3 buddy', then pm me your tag.
My biggest complaint is still all the talking, cut scenes, and general blather from bosses and others you have to keep escaping or x'ing out of. The story was okay the first time, but geez. Also, cut scenes in the middle of a boss fight... not cool.
I do wish you could see who was in games and what the goal of them was before joining from a title or description. But I like the chat other than not being able to alter the box and colors. The AH is great imo because I hated having to do trades and hunt people down, scroll through trade channel spam, etc... it IS a little clunky, though.
I disagree on not making friends, though. I have made a number of them from General chat, as well as from playing in public games.
My complaint is seeing the stupid prices for somethings and realizing that with a family, job and other responsibilities it will be a long time before I have millions. That and some affixes are messed up in their implementation and make you end up leaving instead of continuing on(hate doing this at a stack of 3-4 NV). Those aren't deal breakers but they just dampen the whole experience of it and I find myself just not enthused for the game as much as I want to be,
But I haven't given up yet, as Blizz does improve in time.
Though seeing that bass up top makes me want to get out to the lake oh so bad lol! Rains have been good lately so lakes are back full.
I do miss being able to make named games, although I do like the "get up and go" idea with the quests.
I hope they decide to use the goal of the selecting the game (meeting up with people who have a simliar goal, atm) with the current system by having names parties. Make it so you can create a named party in some list. That way, you can make a party for farming the SoH components. People who want to do that can join, and you can all go make seperate games and run until you find the drop point, and everyone joins to increase the chances. Or do repeated runs through w/e, and you don't have to rename anything, you just stay in the party as you hope from ng to ng. Then, if you just want to level, just click "join public game" and you're good.

Ha, well thanks.
Here's the biggest I've caught this year.
Fishing is more of an addiction for me than D3 ever will be.
Actually, no. I generally try to start conversation myself, but it never amounts to much.
