Since the my last thread "How many times you died on normal mode"
I've die countless of times...If i really have to give a number i'll say at least 30 times. No i'm not ashamed of it because it is fun.
So I has just reached hell act 1 after 2 weeks of casual playing and on my 1st char and wow is HELL mode intense.
The normal white mobs are fun to kill because it took sometime to kill them.
I Immediately realize Hell act 1 mobs are stronger than nightmare act 4 mobs.
Then I encountered my first yellow monster(non quest not haedrig's wife). Bloody tough. Took me about 2 deaths to kill it.
Awhile later , I encountered 4 blue monsters, fire chain and some other attribute...needless to say OUCH. I died again and I realized I need to stay back and kite them (Hit and run?). I also changed my skills (see the fun part) just for this 4 fire chains monsters. Anyway I killed them by kiting.
Finally I encountered another yellow again and this time I die and exited the game because there was no way I could had won that fight. It had vortex, electric/firechain and 1 more attribute(I think).
So here comes the question...for those in hell difficulty and above.
Did you use auction house while playing in HELL mode or even on previous difficulty?
Did you get your items from glitch?
Did you kill all (or at least most) of the yellow/blue named monsters or did you skipped them?
I'm going to spend a while farming better items and see what I can get.
My current statistics
102k gold (how the hell people get MILLIONS?)
lvl 51 WD with 14k hp and 2.2k dps trying to refrain from using the AH.
Only ever got new weapons from the AH, cos I've been unable to find anything decent on my monk.
Never got anything using a glitch.
Never skipped a champ pack or elite mobs until act 2 inferno.
I hit the AH several times toward the end of nightmare and into Hell, but I only buy items at value prices. It makes no sense to splurge on the best level 54 weapon money can buy, when it will be dwarfed by level 57-60 weapons. I'd rather get a few cheap upgrades here and there to keep my momentum going while leveling than to farm a particular section, though. That's just me.

I grew up gaming without internet forums. The entire phenomenon of being upset with a game developer makes no sense to me. No sense. I cannot imagine spending my time and energy being upset about something I choose to do for recreation.
Whimsyshire is tought but drops pretty decent gear, which should help you pregress in the next act.
I did hell whimseyshire last night. I got 5 stacks of NV from the weeping hollow before going and I thought the drops were terrible. Only 3 yellows. Plus those chubby ponies hit like a truck. I'm gonna go in a few times today; but the cash flow sucked and the items sucked. First few quests in Act 3 were a ton better both ways.

I bought a good weapon for Hell. Then I found an upgrade an hour later. Doh. I ran most of Hell with level 30-40 armor I already had cuz I wanted magic find. Hell wasn't very difficult. Act 4 was a little messy in the spire; but manageable.
I kill every blue/yellow possible, unless the afix combo is too frustrating (invulnerable minions pretty much).
I'm starting inferno now (well, not really, I've already downed the SK once in inferno) and just bought a few pieces of "resist all" gear cuz I'm tired of being nuked by mortar mobs. I don't want to feel like I'm corpse dragging my way to progression.
I bought weapons as I progressed through Hell, but that was it. I figured it wasn't worth the time to search for other items, and I haven't been having too much trouble in hell. The weapon makes such a huge difference though, I bought a new one at level 52, 56 and 58. (160 dps, 230dps, 360dps all with 120+ dex for my monk). I'm just shy of 60 now and just starting Act IV hell, I'll probably buy one more blue ~600dps weapon then to get through Act IV. Its nice that I can just sell them back for what I paid after I upgraded too, so no huge monetary commitment, more like renting!
Honestly the weapon upgrades helped a lot, but I found near-equal quality a few levels after I bought them, those levels certainly would have taken longer without the bump though.
this is true..the drops i get are total crap. they always have weird stats like 50str and 40int or a barb only belt with 100int and 40 dex...like what? NO barb would ever buy that...only good for vendor. so with the crazy way they have random stats and my bad luck..AH all the way
It's no denying that the AH is a great tool. You can find what you need there for (usually) a decent price. Now, with that said, it doesn't change the fact that the game feels built around it.
I'm in Act 1 on Inferno mode with a Wizard, and I can tell you that during this whole time playing the game; I've never found loot worth my time outside of the AH. Even in Inferno mode, the drops pale in comparison to anything the AH has to offer. Now, obviously somebody must have looted the gear we buy in the AH, but even then, the gear that I search for is sometimes just as useless (if not ridiculously expensive). I can't imagine how I would have managed to get to where I am now without using the AH. The drops feel underwhelming, the shops buy them for dirt cheap (8 gold for white items), and nothing has any use other than hoping somebody will buy it in the AH off you.
