Well, hello fellow demonslayers, this post will be a little long, so if you dont like to read, just skip to the TL;DR on the end ;]. I don't always post on forums, but when I post, I make it almost like a book. Plus, english is not my main language and I'm self taught on it so this text probally contains a lot of errors.
I'm a really old fan of the series (and a litte old guy too), since diablo 1 when I was 15 years old... Man the game hit me like a truck, back in the day, me and my friends spent days and days playing it with the dial up connection and all the dcs.
I remember entering rooms full of Spitting Terrors and dying really fast, or try to "run" from the thousand succubus on hell, man that was really fun! The graphics, the music the game everything was so different from all the games I've played I was astonished.
Then diablo 2 came, open enviroment, a lot of new and cool classes, more armorsets, unique spells/skills to each class, the game was great, after sometime I grow tired of infinite boss runs, but still a great game to play with friends, one of the best isometric hack n slash games, if not the best.
But I just dont feel the multyplayer when not playing with friends, since everyone just keep rushing to bosses and killing everything on sight.
Well, and now diablo 3, I'm REALLY hyped to play this game, but luck is never by my side, I didnt get invited to the beta, and since I live outside the US my game will only arrive on june 7 (since I bought a physical media), and well I'm not lucky enough to get a guest pass too...
But I managed to play the beta on some friends acc, and the game was GREAT, the atmosphere, the graphics, the gameplay, everything is a 10/10.
But now lurking the forums I'm seeing a lot of QQers, almost looks like some wow forums and stuff, people claiming the game is easy, solo boss kills on inferno and I'm a little concerned.
I already now that the bosses aren't the focus of the gameplay now, you must hunt down some rare, walk around the map and stuff, and that looks like a lot of fun to me, a lot of time better than boss runs.
So... after that little chat, my question is (to the true fans of the series, not the qqers): How is the game NOW??
It's like diablo 1?? A fight to survive while being overwhelmed by thousand of strong mobs??
Like diablo 2?? Cutting throught all the mobs with really nice skills, and in late game doing a lot of runs for more and more gear??
a mix of both??
TL;DR: to the true fans of the franchise, the old players, how is the game right now?? how are the fight to survive in the world of sanctuary?? It's like the old days of dying on diablo 1?? Or it's like the runs on diablo 2??
Yeah HAVE to run away a lot on inferno. No one that I have heard of just facerolls the way you could in D2.
That said, it's still early. The AH is a big deal in that you can find budget upgrades on the cheap, if you're willing to spend the time shopping. That means you don't need to get super lucky to upgrade your gear in D3, and can be confident in your ability to progress incrementally over time.

I grew up gaming without internet forums. The entire phenomenon of being upset with a game developer makes no sense to me. No sense. I cannot imagine spending my time and energy being upset about something I choose to do for recreation.
Its a solid combination of both worlds in my mind. I find it challenging yet definitely possible to beat something every night. That will change in Inferno but I've enjoyed the hell out of the 60 hours I've got on the game already. You're fighting a huge number of really tough mobs and having to use the tactical side of your brain to get some things done. Granted you can just run past some things and feel like a hardass killing end game bosses but I did enough Meph, Baal, Diablo, Pinder, whatever the fuck else runs in D2. I'm glad they changed things like that.
Another sad thing is people are comparing this game to its 12 year old predecessor in terms of gear. This is completely faulty logic. People spent years amassing wealth in D2 that most of the time wasn't even legit! The hacking in that game got so out of hand they released the biggest patch in D2's history to help make the game ok again. Thats a bad thing people. The good items are rare. Lets go back to a happy place in D2's past where no one had that 49% Tarn or Twitchthroe was one of the best armors in the game for Zons.
I honestly (maybe a bit of flame here but not intentionally bad mouthing people) a lot of the folks on the forum are from D2... This means theres a whole LOT of hammerdins hiding around here that have no problem playing cheese and would probably prefer the economy end up where it is with Diablo 2 so they can use someones bot program all night and wake up with great loot. The game is doing well where it is. Some small itemization changes (legendaries really should have unique effects not seen on rares or magics to make them viable), some time for wealth to amass, and a little time for the majority of the playerbase to clear off the cobwebs of not having the Diablo franchise being current will do the community and the game a great service.
ahhh that's a relief, call me fanboy but I knew blizzard will not screw up with the game, so probally all the QQ I'm seeing is not from the old players of the franchise

You get your D2 factor from normal to nightmare, hell and inferno are like the good old D1 days trying to find a doorway to funnel monsters in so you don't die. People expect to be epic and farm everything 1 week after release, give it a few weeks hopefully the whiners leave.
EDIT: If anything you can spend 500 hours on this game without even going into inferno mode and we don't even have PvP yet.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
ahhh that's a relief, call me fanboy but I knew blizzard will not screw up with the game, so probally all the QQ I'm seeing is not from the old players of the franchise
that's a very naive and discriminating statement, if i whine in 1 thread im a new player and if i say good things about the game in another thread im an old player?...
it doesnt matter if you played D1 and D2 or not, its about your arguments that you bring to the issue at hand.
You think you have all the brains in the world just because you played D2...
If my post ofended you, I apologize, that was not my intention.
And I'm not saying that "I have all the brains in the world" because I've played the other games of the franchise; But I asked to the older players because they know the feeling of fighting for your life on diablo 1, or cutting throught everything on d2.
As you can see In all posts people share some of they experiencies with the games, talk about the old builds, running throught a door to funnel the mobs... Probally all that people even killed the Butcher on D1 trought a window.
But those statements dont make them any better than the new player, new players to the franchise is always better. But the old ones got 1 thing: Experience in the old games.
But my question here was to people that experienced this moments on the other games, since I think they will have the right answer to my questions, and they got it. I've never got the intention of discriminating or offending somebody by just asking a question.
But you have to admit we are seeing a LOT of people crying out loud here, so I just wanted to know how the game is right now.
Well I hope I did not offended anybody with this post now...
True fan here Diablo fan here started when I was 13 years old playing Diablo 2. I had sevearl 85+ characters and my gem of a character a lvl 99 amazon. In D2 did cow runs, mephisto runs, baal runs, and plenty of dueling.
I am a level 57 Demon Hunter In A2 Hell and the challenge and difficulty thus far has been perfect. Normal was a brease, but death was possible probably died 5-10 times mostly because I was lazy or not paying attention. Nightmare was a nice bump up in the challenge and I died probably 5 times an act, and really enjoyed it. Currently in hell shit has gotten hard, but I am always progressing and have only farmed a very small amount. I always play with a monk and the co op aspect of the game is great, and has plenty of challenge with the focus of the game still being the loot.
Everyone who is QQ probably QQ about every aspect of their life. I love the game it is 10/10 I would like to play it every day, but my work schedule does not allow me to. I enjoyed reading your post, and It was very easy to understand. From one Diablo fan to another stay strong, and let it rip June 7th.
* The game (Diablo 3) is awesome. Leveling to 60 is a treat cos most every skill/rune unlocked make sit seem like a totally different skill and none of the skills are repeated across the 5 classes.
* It is addictive as heck which is what we all want and remember from Diablo 2. I'm waking up early to play before work, rushing home to play after work. Its been quite a while since a game has been this wrapped up in it. The gameplay is unparalleled
* It is Online only. But complains aside, joining in Co-op is so darn smooth and fun. I ran my first character solo to absorb the story but there after it just makes more sense to just fo co-op. Aside from the initial 2-3 days of server problems its been smooth sailing (For me at least)
Things that People are complaining about:
* AH woes. I will admit game servers are stable for most now, but the AH is still a little iffy. Its getting better and depends on the time of day but over all not a huge issue and it will get ironed out. That said the AH is usable and works 80% of the time.
* There are valid points that you will eventially only value a few item affixes on your gear. But over all it is still darn fun to find magic items. And I'm constantly comparing stats before I sell/salvage them. Let's put it this way, I have 2 full stash tabs and 3 mules currently and I'm only in Nightmare Act 2. The item game is alive and well.
* Legendary items (Uniques) are I think a disappointment. But it is a design philiosophy that Blizzard made, which many disagree with. I do too and I'm hoping that they will relent and patch in new and better stats for Legendary items. Ideaily in my mind the worst Legendary should be as good as an upper rolled magic item, with the potential of being amazing.
* Longevity of the game. In Diablo 2, once you finish Hell, there were 2 things to do, level up and get better items. Now there's Inferno mode and the ultra hard core are saying they have beaten the game and there's nothing else to do. Well looking for better items is one thing. But truly, no one knows much about how long Diablo 3 will last and if it has the legs that Diablo 2 had. Only time will tell.
However I can gurantee you that the expansion will be just as anticipated. Bottomline, if you enjoyed diablo 2's gameplay, you will like diablo 3.
