I've posted this question in a number of forums (I've noticed it has been posted on the official forums as well and there has been no reply from Blizzard regarding this).
I noticed many Americans asking why they can't simply connect to the European servers prior to the midnight launch. The official reply was simply "Because the Digital Version will not unlock until midnight" and when consumers asked "What if I install from a retail copy?" the reply was "No retailer will sell a copy of the game prior to midnight". So for our American friends, either way they are stuck with a midnight unlock.
However, here in Australia we can pick up our physical retail copies early in the day (in some cases 7am), whats to stop us from simply installing our Retail copy and connecting to the European servers at 8am and then switching over to the US come 5pm?
I'm hoping that this was an oversight by Blizzard (we are here in Aus/NZ only about 3% of the gaming community in the world), as they seem to be avoiding the issue.
Any light that can be shed on this topic would be much appreciated.
With the current info at hand... There seems to be nothing stopping you. The only catch is if your client can download the day one patch for your client region.

We DEFAULT to the US server but we are able to connect to any server. Surely we would be able to download the day one patch from the EU server along with the rest of the Europeans? The only draw back I can see to this is latency, but, I'm prepared to live with it if it gets me into the game 8 hours earlier.
I believe Australia is locked into the Americas by default so I think you will not be able to log into the Europe or Asian servers until the American servers are live.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.

So here is the problem for everyone defaulting to US servers. The first time you log on you will be forced to log on to your default server. Because of this, you will not be allowed to join the EU or Asia servers.
Edit: The Americas - For players in the US, Canada, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia.

Do you have a Blue Post or something similar that says you MUST login to your default server first? This is the first I have heard of it.
I posted about this on the official forums I think (or maybe it was here). Never got an adequate response though.
It will suck tho to play on EU for 8 hours then have to replay those 8 hours once NA goes live, but I won't be able to help myself to see whats past the skele king.
^^ what he said. Also, I suspect that you log in to the servers on your default region, and then from there choose on which character to create your character. So no luck for the AUS guys. Just stay of youtube/Diablofans etc until you get to play.

" In general, players will create characters and play in their "home" region, which is determined by where they live (specifically, the country of residence registered to their Battle.net account). Global Play gives players the ability to switch to any of the other game regions via the in-game options menu, either before or after they log in to the game"
So unless we can't install the game at all from the retail box then we should have no issues actually getting online.
Seeing a number of posts saying that the data on the disks is the EXACT same thing as the digital download. I have read many blue posts talking about how the DIGITAL version unlocks at midnight. If the retail version was the same then wouldn't they simply say ALL versions unlock at midnight? I do recall seeing a post on the official forums where someone asked about installing a retail copy before midnight and connecting and the Blizzard post was something along the lines of 'But no retailer will sell the game before Midnight' and not 'It has to be unlocked like a digital version'.
I'd really like someone to post a link to a Blue Post or some reputable source indicating that the Retail copy is somehow locked, encrypted, unable to install. Otherwise I'm going to assume we are on the right track with Australians connecting to Europe early in the morning.
Note that if you haven't previously logged into another region using your current login credentials, your ability to connect might be affected while your home region is in maintenance.
Pretty sure this thing + installer encryption = no EU for americans and no Asia for EU until their default region servers go up.

I was thinking of chuckin' a sickie, but I'm not sure its worth the stuffing around just to play a measly 9 hours earlier.
If we had to wait a couple of weeks (is Russias release still 7th July?) then I'd look into, but for a few hours I'm not sure its worth messing with.
You tell yourself it's not worth but, but we both know the truth, don't we?
We sit on 250ms ont he US servers, sucks to be us I guess.
Also you have the option of selecting region BEFORE loggin in much like SC2 I'm postive we can play EU servers first thing in the morning.

You can play wherever you like...after the game is unlocked. Until the game unlocks in your default region, you cannot play.
