Just got into Beta a couple of days ago, I'm having fun with it. My only real issue with it so far is that I wish the zoom feature was a little more developed. Seems like it's either way out or WAY in. It's hard to see much of the detail way out in my opinion, however zoomed all the way in makes it tough to manuver/fight/etc.
Would be much better in my opinion if they had at least a couple of steps in between, or better yet, have a zoom in/out function with the mouse wheel.
Second. I guess it depends on your screen resolution. I'm only running 1280 * 1024 and it suits me fine, even tho I would like to go higher. But that's the cap on my screen atm. Getting a better one for release so I can play HD resolution.
But the zoom function on the mouse wheel would not be a bad idea. Dunno if you can rebound the key in the options for it. If there should be more steps in the zoom, I would prefer if the current zoom out function was in the middle range. So the next step would actually be further away.
Blizzard is very controlling of the vantage point they want the player to play in. This same suggestion crawled up with SC2 - there were a few people (well, probably more than a few) who wanted to be able to zoom out and see more of the battlefield. They didn't implement this feature for a reason: The game didn't play the same.
The same can be said for Diablo 3. They've got one vantage point they want you to play at and that's it. The zoom in option is only there so you can look at how cool your character looks with your new phat loot
Edit: I guess I should add that the 'harm' in it is that the game doesn't look right when you zoom too far out (all the models are too small, and weird effects happen), and it's not fair for you if you zoom too far in (you lose the ability to gauge distance).

Exactly. The game isn't meant to be played zoomed in; it's more of a self-inspection feature.
Also, if you were zoomed out farther than someone else (I'm talking pvp here) you would have a large advantage over them. You could see them, and they couldn't see you. Bad juju.

Well that was not the case in WoW was it? Not as I recall atleast. I know there was a command for zooming way out. I know there is a massive diversety in the two games. But as for PvP it is not always better to be able to see more.

I never said anything about zooming out further than what we already get. I just wish I could zoom in about 80% of that distance or so. Not any further out. Something similar to Dawn of War's zoom function would be great. (and, I'm not asking for a rotating camera, just the zoom...)
I don't believe this would be a disadvantage to anyone else, maybe myself since I don't 'see' as far as they do.
You're a smug one aren't cha?? I never said that PvP delayed the game, others had said that the creation of the 'zoom' feature could delay the game. I just said they were adding it later.

Any thoughts on this?

Simple....
A delay.
They could always add it in later, just like PVP.
