1. Build should be old top build, new top build without augments/ancients, Some well thought middle range build, fast farming build or fast gem leveling build. There should be plenty of those to choose from. (Current top10 builds are poor choice because there very few players who can beat those times even with the map awareness. Maybe top100 or top1000 people can beat.)
2. You should be able to play any class you want and you get one reward box on each. There is 7 classes now so you can focus to one each day and repeat it during the next week.
Current challenge is very poor system and build. It isn't alternative to bounties now like it should be.
Sounds good but may not be practical. They are probably letting the computer to pick the builds randomly. Computer does not know what is old build / fast farming build / fast gem leveling build. =/
So... I came back from travel and started a bit late, and the time was already around 2 minutes for the top spots. I have no idea how you get there. And with such a flawed class/skill set which is even worse than the "play your way", I had no desire to do more than 2-3 runs (and could immediately tell that even with 100 runs I wouldn't beat Wudijo's current #1, not even sure I could get into top 100).
I hope that some of the winners share videos (and/or some of the thought process) that got them to the top spot, because I feel I totally missed something. It's obvious though that CRs are a playing ground in which the usual "gear, paragon, RNG" cop-out doesn't count anymore: #1 in a CR week simply means you're a better player (I find it ridiculous that many people still believe there's no room for "skill" in this game; CRs can disprove that).
For me personally CRs will probably just be a weekly income of bounty mats (and also some nice crafting mats). I hate bounties, so that's a nice bonus. I don't think I'm gonna try to be competitive, ever, unless there's a really fun build out for a week. I noticed there's 2p/3p/4p leaderboards as well; I wished they would choose real 2p/3p/4p groups here. As someone said, it might be fun to have the top clear as CR, which would show people that clearing that GR125 is not just about gear, paragon, and RNG... but that it actually requires a ton of skill, coordination, and game knowledge.
Agree that, despite the terrible build picked, Challenge Rifts prove that player's skill does matter. Just looking at the finish time, obviously I am not good at playing DH comparing with the top players. LoL (My main is WD.)
I feel that replays of some of the top spots would be a nice addition. If nothing else it will show how some of the top players play, giving us casuals an idea of how it's done properly.

They are exactly what Blizz said they would be, a randomly picked rift that was completed in a random gearset that is locked in for the whole week to allow ultra competitive players to compete for the best time in a completely level playing field while allowing the rest of the playerbase to experience something a little different with a token reward for our time investment.
The problem is, as Ive said in other threads, that some people mistook CRs for something else entirely, then tried to force that false impression onto others which in turn created even more disappointment to the players that were misled into believing they were the target audience.
Ultra competitive means one thing to one person and something else to another, and to further complicate things there are always those that think they will gain some superiority by falsely claiming to be that competitive, so expect to see many people that have neither the skill level or competitive nature to make the same old Diablo based excuses for why they think CRs are in their opinion so terrible, meanwhile the rest of us will accept them as a quick way to get 8 of each bounty mats and move on.
Haha, you have a point. Blizz should have warned us beforehand: Builds picked are totally random, so do not freak out if some of the builds are terrible!
Btw someone should screenshot the CRifts LBs since older than a week results seems to be deleted and there is not a CRift API atm. That diablorank guy was making pretty good job with build screenshots, but I have no idea if he is active atm, if someone have him as friend, message him this.
On the topic - basically there are quite a big number of things that should be improved in CRifts if the developers want to push serious competition with these. If you are interested what these are you can check out this topic.
Yep, sadly the people who have done the internal CRift testing found top times snapshots to be annoying and hard to complete. This is why all CR snapshots are going to be fast times low tiers, which are quite boring to do since they don't involve pushing and put an artificial skill cap in place, because the player have enormous EHP (you can not die) and damage output (you one-two shot everything) relative to the CR level. That is why the best solution to the problem is to up the tier on completion as suggested by Darth and reward more caches per tier reached as linked in the url above.
So far it wasnt good. It wasnt actually challenging. The problem is that the builds suck, the gear sucks, the transmog sucks but the only thing I did it for was the reward. It wasnt fun.
At first, I didn't care it wasn't a high powered build. Whatever... But to have a build for a 'challenge' that looks like some random RNG put together. Sets that aren't even complete? The set weapons only has one and missing the other, you have the Unity ring on the character but not the follower? I mean what is the point then? Seriously, the set dungeons are way better than this crap.
Like you can get this stuff before you even complete level 70 lol. What a joke.
Not the rift itself is challenging; the idea is that with this you can challenge your friends (or the entire world, if you're up for it) and claim that you're beyond doubt the "best of the best" as CRs offer a level playing ground. No excuses of gear, paragon, gem ranks, rift RNG - everyone has exactly the same circumstances to deal with. And you can challenge literally everyone. The rift itself is not meant to be challenging at all.
The rift itself is not meant to be challenging at all.
Yep, that is made in order the casual players to be able to beat it after 2-3 tries. Sadly, on a competitive level this introduces a skill cap for which I wrote in my previous post and the linked thread. So, if they want to push a real competition with this they have to improve things.
While *I* personally would like to try one of the top rifts, at least one week, I assure you that if we got a rank 1 clear as CR only very few players would be able to even get the cache in that given week. I mean, watch Wudijo do the current Challenge Rift on stream and then try to do the same things he does and beat his time. Good luck beating him. (Last week no one did, this week he's #3 again with only a few attempts so far.)
With that in mind, I hope Challenge Rifts finally put an end to the bullsh*t argument that "Diablo 3 requires no skill" and "those players are only up there because they have so much gear/paragon".
It doesn't have to be a top clear. If you read the thread I linked, you will see that we can push these snapshots if they up the tier with 1 on completion and see where we will end up - tier 40 -> 60 for example? There is no difference whether a player pushes GR1, GR50 or GR150 - only thing that matters is his gear/stats relative to the difficulty. That is why we don't need top clears at all, but we need snapshots that can be "pushed".
While no one who is experienced in this game doubts in wudijo's skills they would shine even more in a snapshot, which involves pushing. I personally haven't tried any CRift yet and if I go try-harding the Monk one, I won't enjoy it for sure, since the pushing element is missing - there are no mobs priorities and you don't have to dodge anything (that is the artificial skill cap, which won't be there if we could progress the CRift tiers).

I understand it's not for HIGH GRs or top tier builds. But this current challenge makes absolutely no sense. I mean, if they chose that gear, i think a better challenge would have been to use all Rare or White/Blue gear. I mean, what's the point of having just random set pieces that don't actually make a set. You are just running the worst possible stuff. At least set dungeons have a purpose - set goals to do. The current challenge just does nothing. You don't get to prove anything. It's like having Usain Bolt running against High Schoolers. Doesn't prove anything. There's no challenge. It's just random crap gear on some random low level GR.
This is why all CR snapshots are going to be fast times low tiers, which are quite boring to do since they don't involve pushing and put an artificial skill cap in place, because the player have enormous EHP (you can not die) and damage output (you one-two shot everything) relative to the CR level. Possibly this is working as intended, such that casual players do not get frustrated from dying because standing on poison pool or facetanking with a ranged class. =/

Actually kind of agree. Even after watching those top players video, I will not be able to do the same or better gameplay than them. Having a top player's snapshot CR would probably causes even bigger uproar than current as a lot of players would not get the mats.
The Challenge Rifts should be arranged so that in some point they would become actually challenging. Like successful clear would raise the Gr level by 1 or 3 or 5.
Player's 5 first clears (let's say 35, 40, 45, 50, 55) would each grant 5 of boynty mats.
Then we are starting to talk about _challenge rifts_ and would be still for casuals too.
The point here is that there could be a leaderboard for all the tiers (5?) so those who want to compete in a lower tier having around 5 minute clear times, could do that. And those who want to compete in other way challenging tiers around 15 minute clears, let them have their own leaderboard.
...And give 3 to 5 bounty materials for each cleared tier.
I did 2 as of now and seriously, for me it is kind of Blah.
I think they will have to work on the idea like they had to get rid of the trial rifts (and a majority of people except the dude who had the idea thought it was bad.).
It is a good idea but it needs a lot of polishing. I think they want to do kind of like the weekly quests in Hearthstone but it has a lot less appeal to the RPG player. Only one fixed cache is a bad idea. My plan is to get the cache ASAP and forget ASAP about the experience.
I hope they will polish the idea and do something great.
P.S.: For a first iteration, the necro is kind of good, for me 2 builds are great fun. So in my book, this patch is a 4 stars.
SO.... Challenge 3 a LON build with 1 Ancient? I mean what kind of build is this?
I did beat it with .1 second left. Maybe that was the challenge? lol
If the builds are going to be so completely random and crap worth, can we at least get more of them per week or daily? It's just a mix bag of whatever. I can put together better builds in less than 2 hours.
Please make them a complete build but NON Meta so at least Blizzard can show us other alternatives to how each class can play.

The rewards should include a random primal item! This would be awesome. And make it harder. Otherwise it's just pointless

I encourage you all to read the blog post introducing the Challenge Rifts, since you seem to have misunderstood the "challenge" part.

It's funny, no more. I think is the most "competitive thing" in Diablo. All with same build, same paragon. But it's all :/.
Btw it's no a "challenge", is so easy for everybody.

Haven't read couple of last pages but as I just tested the Necro CR, I suggest the following:
Raise the the GR level by 3-5 each clear and call them tiers.
CR Tier 1: 30
CR Tier 2: 33
CR Tier 3: 36
CR Tier 4: 39
CR Tier 5: 42..
The point here is that there could be a leaderboard for all the tiers (5?) so those who want to compete in a lower tier having around 5 minute clear times, could do that. And those who want to compete in other way challenging tiers around 15 minute clears, let them have their own leaderboard.
