I'm sure someone's got to know this, and I did do a search of the forum before I posted, but is there going to be an alternate weapon set in Diablo 3 like there was in Diablo 2? I never thought it was all that useful, but it was great for storing additional gear when you were running low on space. However, I can certainly see instances where it could be very useful now with players using more than a couple of skills. You might have one set for normal fighting and groups and one set for bosses.
I'm less certain this will be there because it was mostly made useful by it also having an alternate set of skills set up for it, which certainly won't be the case for D3. I can't imagine them allowing you to hot-swap between skill sets as that would effectively just give you twice as many skills.
If someone knows for sure, please let me know, or if there's a link to info on this, that would be fantastic. Thanks everyone!
Blizzard has said that the weapon swapping feature was too confusing for many players since they may not know the feature existed and thought they lost their weapons when they swapped and there was nothing in the second set.
They aren't including a weapon swapping capability on release, however it wasn't in the D2 initial release either. I imagine if there is a use and enough desire for it they will patch it in.
Also remember that you shouldn't have the inventory problems in D3 that you did in D2, so if that was it's main use for you then it should be a non-issue in losing it.
The only thing I really used it for on some characters was to switch to a weapon with elemental damage on melee characters to deal with immunes and on casters to do things like cast a spell at a higher level than was normally available.
Since we don't think that +skills items will exist on items and they have already said that things won't likely be immune to anything, both of those reasons no longer exist, so I don't see any reason I would use it anymore as I'm going to just put the "best" weapon I have there and leave it at that.
I think it's not in the game currently, but I'd miss it so much if it didn't come back.

We might still want to use weapons with different elemental damage if our enemies have different resistances, so that gameplay factor might still apply.
Also, maybe as a Wizard you have a weapon that skyrockets spell damage, and another that gives you +20 Vitality and increased Magic Find. You could use the one with more HP and magic find throughout the dungeon, and switch to the +spell damage when you reach a boss and right before killing him.
Or maybe, if bosses really have "stages" and you have to be really careful about specific attacks/spells, then swapping sets could keep you alive.
Unless swapping gear is disabled when in combat/near enemies it doesn't seem like taking it away as a feature would really change anything. It'd just mean needing to keep one or two items in your inventory and swapping them manually, although they may be ok with that since it does mean fewer inventory slots for loot. If MF isn't on weapons anymore and they don't put in things like CTA having a weapon swap wouldn't be exploitable and it could be a good way to deal with immunities and such. Being too confusing is kind of a weird excuse as it could be explained in a tutorial or maybe giving a popup explaining it the first time someone does it as it's really not that complicated of a feature.
I am pulling for weapon switch to make it into the D3 release. I like the option to switch between 2h and 1h + shield quickly. Along with some other options that might be available such as the Demon Hunter dual wielding weaker xbows or 2handing a powerful ballista.

Exactly, swaping between 2h and 1h+shield could be key to surviving some situations. Hopefully they will atleast let us make macro for it

or
Amazons bow -> shield/java swapping. Anything else?
or just storing items.
And we won't be seeing any of the above in Diablo 3.

I loved this mechanic =(
