I just want to get peoples opinion on the four player partys. I know it hasnt been finalized yet, but im really hoping that they make it 5! It would make more sence seeing there are 5 classes. I just really hope that they go "People are right. We should go 5 people"

You know, I'm a bit sad we can't have as many people as before. But since the game is different and I haven't played it, I trust Blizzards judgement on this one. To them, it wasn't system limitations or anything, it was the way the game played out. I'm sure balancing encounters likely becomes easier too...
5 would be nice and seems like a good compromise. It also allows one of each of the original classes. But something tells me they probably looked at that too.
Personally, I'm fine with the limit. I don't think I've ever had more than 3 friends willing to sit down and play the same co-op game as me over an extended period of time anyway. But I can see how for some people, a limit of 4 would kinda suck.
Yeah, I agree 5 would be a good number to go with. However if having 5 people in a party means your gona get one shot by an elite monster... well... then. I may not like it so much then.
They've stated their reason for having a limit of 4 is because with any higher number, it becomes spell "soup". There are simply too many effects and things going on that it becomes hard to read.

I'm more than fine with the limit of 4.
I agree with this.
Remember watching a gameplay video with 4 or more players and it looked like a mess on the screen.
All you could see was a bunch of visuals effects from the attacks/spells.
Exactly. I've always been worried since I saw those videos that having 4 players will actually be a hindrance because you can't see what the F is going on.
One of the worst culprits was the damn level up animation/effect. It's just way over the top.
You might as well consider the four player cap finalized for PvE. Blizzard has been firm, and confident in this decision for a long time. At first I was bummed about it, though after seeing gameplay footage of four players pwning monster face, I understand why they made this choice.
Preserving Difficulty: Keeping the player cap low allows Blizzard to balance difficulty much better. In Diablo 2 with a full party of eight nothing was challenging. There were simply to many characters focusing down enemies, even with the scaling minion difficulty to player amount feature, which skill exists in D3 btw.
Visual Pollution: Fact is player, and monster skills are much larger in Diablo 3, making for a very messy environment where it can be hard to tell what's going on if there is to many things happening. Even the addition of one more player would add a lot of extra visuals.
My favorite video example of these concepts is the Monk B-rol video, where at certain points there are four players on screen at once, all casting skills. Even with four players it can be hard to tell who is using that skill, and what monster is attacking who, I can imagine how five players would look..

I think its a good number. If it was 5 people would be like, alright 1 of each class. With 4 you have to make harder decisions.
Yeah totally agree. 4 was obviously blizzards first option for spell effect purposes and then encounter balancing. If it stays 4 i also think it will make encounters more strategic. For an example, "this mob would be alot easier to take down if we had the wizards incinerate, ohw wait we don't have a wizard" what can we do?. And i don't think this would slow down the pace either it would just be quick compensation thinking "like what can we use instead".

good point. i was happy with four but allowing a player from each class i think is a great idea.to me it feels more complete with five somehow.
8 should have been the cap again, with the option to set the cap on your games to something lower.
I'd rather have some god damn freedom again, rather than just "what Blizzard thinks is best."
In D3 8 ppl would be to much. I want to have a challenge. but still i would hope they do 5. Just for all the classes. I understand people and the spell effects, but that's what having a good computer is for. My GF got a new comp just for this game cuz she knew it would be graphics heavy. my vote is still 5 =P
Yea, I just gotta trust blizzard on this one. Granted I never really played much more than 1 or 2 players in any given game but with this being so much co-op oriented Im hoping to play with more friends. All in all 4 will feel about right I think.
Other than clutter, as you scale up the numbers, I remember that balancing monsters they said become more tricky. ie. they don't want anyone getting one-shotted ia 8 person game boss fight, and one the other hand they didn't want monsters to die so quickly. just sayin'
If their monster db table is set up so that the attributes IDs are composites then it'll be tricky. If they have it separated, imo they can tweak it so that monster atk/matk or whatever is hard capped at 4 player games, but hp/def whatever will continue to scale.
Well, biased towards 6, as I have 5 friends that are going to play the game... However, I can see the reasoning for having a 4 player party size.
I find myself in the exact same position. I used to LAN D2 with 5 friends and they're all going to buy D3, so I'm inclined to say 6. But from that perspective I can see why they'd go for 4. I played a Sorceress and due to the amount of players, when I got cornered, I got ass handed to me. With too many players it does get a bit chaotic at times, so I do get why they'd settle for 4.
Anyone who's ever been partied with 5 summoner necros know why they limited it too 4.
However, I'd rather it be 5 max, so you could have 1 of each, just feels better tone wise. But 4 is perfectly fine, specially since the pacing seems slower than it was in D2.

i'm ok with 4 but 5 would be gravy.
