I haven't seen much discussion concerning the "Achievement System" so I'm going to show you what we do know at this point and we can guess and speculate from it.
"The Diablo 3 Achievement system will be an account-based system tied to a player's Blizzard Account ID, the purpose of which is to track achievements of all three major games: World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. When combining all the games together, a score dubbed "Blizzard Level" is gained."

Jay Wilson spoke about Achievements from Gamescom, in August, 2010:[1]
in.Diablo.d3: Are we going to see achievements in Diablo III? For example, kill one million Fallen Ones with a single swipe, finish the whole game with a naked hardcore character, listen to every single Deckard Cain dialogue?
Jay Wilson: *smiles* Those are very good achievement ideas. We’ll have them in D3, but I don’t think kill one million anything in one blow. Or ever. Those aren’t good; those are grindy. I do like the naked hardcore character completing the whole game though. I’m all over that one.
----------------------------------
So how would you think it would be similar to WOW and Starcraft2?
What achievements would you like to see in Diablo 3?
How is Blizzard going to implement it?
Jay Wilson mentioned prizes would that be special titles, epic armor? ...
Since Diablo 3 is all about cooperative play will we see achievements you can only get with a group? are even a Guild/Clan!
Interesting topic alltogether, considering we actually haven't had a thread dedicated to the achievement system as of yet.
On Topic, the system itself i think will be exactly the same as it is in Starcraft II. Special campaign and PvP achievements that award points, avatars and titles for the player. The sky's the limit really on what would be considered worth it for an achievement (except the regular lvl 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 level achievements and beating the game on each difficulty). We'd probably have a statistic on item gains aswell (legendary found etc) and special boss fight achievements aswell most likely. Armor Dyes are also very likely for rewards after earning special achievements too.
PS. 3000th post, go me!
PS2. Perhaps after the release of the game we could have a special achievement thread where people discuss their progress in achievements too!
There will probably be achievements for a certain rating in pvp, maybe reaching a high average item level(like "Epic" in WoW). I bet they will have one for finding really rare items, leveling up artisans, completeing sets, doing certain events, gaining a certain amount of gold(that is kind of "grindy" though), creating one of each of the highest level gems, getting one of those devastating blows on a certain mob (1000 pounder or something big), winning a pvp match on every map, kill bosses in a certain amount of time, discovering the secret cow level, the list goes on and on.
If they are going to implement any "grindy" achievements then that opens up like 1000000x more
I would bet that achievements lead to aesthetic rewards and not things like armors. At least the ones for PvP as they said that PvP won't be a way to get gear. But things like titles or other things that show you have done something cool, while not making you actually better.
My bet is some of the main achievements, ie ones that actually give you some kind of reward like that, are ones for killing bosses at the ends of acts, or completing certain main quests like the siege of Bastion's Keep, along with some PvP things like reaching certain ratings. Should be pretty cool.
And they said the whole game will be soloable, but they want people to play with a group as its simply more fun to play with friends.
I'm guessing killing all the various mini rares and completing the various random quests would be an achievement.
Perhaps getting all artisans to max level, doing some bosses in a tricky/alternatite way.
And hopefully, small fun achievements, I.e making a fallen one turn away and flee 10 times before killing it or something in those lines.
Oh and as for Deckard Cain monologues "I stayed quite a while and listened" would be funnier imo

I think it would be cool if each of your characters had a customizable portrait in the battle.net menus, and for completing achievements, you would unlock stuff to put in your portrait. Backgrounds, items on the ground, glows and auras.
Lets say we reach our achievement peak, what about when future expansions get released? will more achievements get added on to the same list? possibly upgrading are even give better than the previous rewards?
Good point, I'm probably jumping through "to big of hoops". Furthermore i was looking and WOW Wikipedia --> My link and i found it interesting that you earn achievement points and unlock things such as a cool pet are a mount, but has any one thought about spending achievement points? maybe there could be a list of items that require an amount of achievement points, it would be a core unit in the game ... just not another "When I'm that bored I'll try to get the achievements"
1) Lead the player to do something thats cool but because of some odd reason he don't even try. For exemple a achieve "Play one arena match". Some people may ignore the arena because they hate PvP, but this achieve will lead then to try it and give D3's pvp a chance. Other possibility is "finish the game with each class"... I hate the DH but if this kind of achieve exist I may try it and maybe even like it. Yeah i'm assuming my hate for the DH have odd reasons hehe..
2) Reward and support alternatives nichs of play. Using the exemple above: "Finish the game without wearing items". Some people do it in D2 and with achievement system this kind of play style will have the attention it deserves. Other exemple is "Finish the game entirely with a party of 4 barb/wiz/dh/wd/monk". This will support people to creat new builds to fit in the weird situation and try to organize a 4 men party to do the trick.
Lol hardcore arena battles would either consist of completely amazing pros or extremely bad noobs. And I can't imagine finishing my character in HC that way unless I was bored and up for some good PVP.
However I like achievements. I'm an achievement whore. I admit it. I love getting them , it gets the reward centres of my brain active with a flood of dopamine.
Anywhoo I hope they have lots of achievements so that you can never really feel like you've finished and I hope that they make the main end-game interesting enough that I never feel the need to complete reems of achievements except on the side.

"A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don't have a J.O.B."
And I hope achievements are not character-specific.
WoW's character-specific achievements are stupid. If you're into the stuff, every new char you start leveling fishing and /loving animals like me lol. I just don't understand the need to do it twice.
I don't think we're going to have that problem, Equinox. We'll most likely have the player profile as they do in Starcraft II, with stats on classes (as they have on different races).
Sure, we'll have class achievements, but they're all going to our Player Profile.
Well for achievements like "Kill (Insert Boss Here) without using Health Globes," or other challenges that involve having to use a certain strategy or something like that, I think it should be character specific. But for things like "Complete Act 1" or "Explore all of the Leoric Highlands" I would agree that it should be based on your account. If I had to choose one or the other, though, I'd prefer something like SC2 over WoW, as it is annoying to not be able to display what achievements you have in WoW, and to have to do them over and over. But again, I think there are some that should be character specific.
Overall, I wouldn't worry too much about things like "Catch 1000 Fish" as they said they don't want achievements to be "grindy" but we'll see how well that goes.
Well I think it is inevitable that there will be some grindy achievements. Such as leveling a massive amount of characters to level 60, or finding every item set in the game.
I don't mind these. I found myself really bored after doing all the quests and stuff with my characters after they were fully loaded in Diablo II. Achievements would have been something I would of focused on after that.
I haven't given the achievement system to much thought before this. I like the ideas you guys have, like maybe some eye candy for your char after achieving a high goal, or name titles. I'm glad there'll be an incentive for playing other classes and meticulously exploring the world. Also as said before, it'll give people a reason to at least try PvP, myself listed as one of them. I'd try it anyway, but I'll likely be playing PvP just to get all the achievements for it. After watching the PvP demos and fans videos, I get the general vibe of it and am not a fan, I'd rather be grinding for loot :offtopic:.

Well for achievements like "Kill (Insert Boss Here) without using Health Globes," or other challenges that involve having to use a certain strategy or something like that, I think it should be character specific.
I think it would be simpler to define these achievements as "Kill (Insert Boss Here) without using Health Globes as a (Insert Class Here)".
Overall, I wouldn't worry too much about things like "Catch 1000 Fish" as they said they don't want achievements to be "grindy" but we'll see how well that goes.
Honestly I don't mind grindy achievements at all. I just don't want to do the same achievement every time I make a new character when it's the same damn achievement.
Killing a boss without health globes is different on every char. Fishing in WoW wasn't.

I really like the sound of that.
I'll have to make a softcore character for arena battles, but i'll definitely try it out.
