been reading alot of postes out ther talking about there being no ladder, and i know what people are talking about. It was a post from bishok or whatever... the blizz pr rep and i spacifically remember him saying that "ladder would not exist in d3" and this is the important part "the way we know them in d2, with all the resets".
i use quotations but im not shur on exactly what he said. ive been looking for the op for some time now and cant remember where i saw it. so in my mind the ladder is making an comback... because of the "the way we knew them in d2" part. i for shur remember readin it.
if any one has the original post i would very much like to reread it. also, do you guys think that not having a ladder is a good or bad thing and why?
i liked the D2 ladder, never made it on, but it appealed to the "i want to be better than everyone" part of me.

maby the matrix was made by the robots to make everyone think it was a retarted idea?
+ ever notice how the matrix kinda blends with the terminator to make one 6 part super movie!

they said that they dident want ladder or the resets because thats how they fixed the economy and set everything back to 0 and they didnt like this because it wasent right it was "broken" they need something constant and stable. the post and vid is somewhere just start skimming the interviewsyou will get your answer better then what i can explain
Well, a ladder reset was great to refresh the economy, and it makes sense. It would even make sense to have ladder wipes on Diablo III, seeing that the item game will be similar to Diablo II, with high end items that will be eventually achieved by everyone.
However, they don't want it this way.
Therefore, they must have a system (auction?) that keeps items circulating quickly, and there must be WAY more items in this game in Diablo II.
I never used ladder but I can see why it would appeal to some players. D2 needed it more than D3 will however because of the lack of gold sinks. D3's economy should hopefully be much more stable and not require resets as one of the main features in ladder was.
By the way, claytonsteele, it's spelt "sure" not "shur"
The ladder was only used to fix there horrible economy, so as long as Diablo 3 fixes its economy (which it better) then it is useless, except to some hardcore (as in fans, not people who play hardcore mode) players who are used to it. But either way I'm sure we'll adjust.

Will be changed at some point, I'm too lazy right now.

the ladder was used to rank your self against the top 100 people via your/their exp and lvl. the ladder ressets were used to stabalize the economy. Thats where i draw a distinction.
but alot of people are saying that there will be no "ladder".
come to think of it, it was open and closed bnet. closed bnet had a ladder and they would reset "closed bnet" the ladder reset was just a side effect

I'm going to bet that they're going to have some kind of ranking system. It would be stupid for them not to. They went crazy with it in SC2. It's just a matter of waiting for stuff for Battle.net and Diablo III to mesh. Like you guys mentioned, it was dumb to have a ladder simply to have resets, but they can have ladders without having to reset the whole economy. Just exclude characters from a prior date or something, or base it on groups of players, like playtime, quests completed, gold gained, or whatever. Not to say those are the best benchmarks, but there's tons.
Also, Diablo II didn't have a ladder until, what, a year after launch or something? I think it can with the first major patch.
My guess is that the ladder system is going to be replaced by an Achievement system(not sure how it will work). So instead of resetting a ladder, they might add new achievements or reset certain achievements for players to do. These achievements would be tied to items that you can get only when you have completed them.

So people could still compete, but the annoying redundancy would be gone.
