A treasure chest that chomps on your hand, an aggressive carpet that will literally sweep you off your feet or a marble statue warrior that just won’t quit is many of the deceptive monster types that would be a fine addition to Diablo’s roster because when furniture suddenly unleashes an all out assault, you will take notice and wished you could make a return on these décor items.
Where would the Mimic fit in Diablo’s archetypes? Make it a thief! It steals gold and items in your inventory then scampering away from you into the darkness to pose as another innocent treasure chest would be a solid reminder to take caution when approaching these environmental articles and that anything in this world is dangerous and evil.
Watch out, that flag pole is making a hissing sound! Activate your Sprint skill and make a run for it Baba!

the environment is fine as it is, it is interactible and slightly dangerous. the las tthing we need is some fucking chest hopping after us of some god dam rake waitin on the floor to stun us. horrible idea man, next time keep it to urself
I think it should be a "sleeper". I imagine sleep monsters that keeps hidden in the enviorment and some trigger may aweke him up to fight you. A example of sleeper monster is the Gnarled Walker. Gargoyles, haunted objects and the very mimic is other very nice "sleeper" ideas.
I imagine thief monsters as golden axe's thiefs. They come, steal items on the ground and run away, they don't actualy steal the items you already picked (unless you're camping rofl!). But i think it may be kinda frustrating for some players and since more and more pussys seens to play blizz's games nowdays i bet such hardcore idea will never be implemented.
Anyway, i loved the mimic trap idea. You open that chest waiting to grab tons of gold and items but the chest suddenly bites your ass off. Great.
sry bout that man, i guess my impatience is really starting to get to me XP
there are just things that fit really well in the d3 world, and i dont think that the environnment coming to life is on of them. i find the traps work just fine ^^, but i'd be nice to see a lot a diversity in the traps, and not the exploding chests 24/7,
ex : kurast jungle, open a chest in wooden area and a bunch of trees come to life and beat the snot outa ya xP
dont mess with nature

Nah. The reason why it won't be implemented is that Diablo is an item collection game. Games that usually have thief like enemies are either games that are just plain annoying OR games where items are just one of the important things to achieve OR games that you expect to be difficult, like Roguelikes for instance. In a game that's all about items and where you're playing in a relaxed state, it is absolutely retarded to have an enemy suddenly come out of nowhere and steal that item that you've been farming to get for a week or so.
I agree its not too good for the "stealing items" part but the rest is pretty kool. I mean look at the gameplay vid at the end when the trees come alive, I want stuff like that where you think your about to fight this monster or boss but really BOOM all these ahhh ahhhhh trees (I couldent think of another idea LOL :)) fight that ambush then fight like the siege breaker thats awsome then the trap set up for you after you beat that AMAZING traps everywhere. Yhey dont have to be a man eating chest for it to be a trap :).

Totally disagree.
It's logic that the player can not only kill the thief monster before he steal your loot but he can also chase and kill the monster to recover the lost item. So you will eventually loose one or two items, so what ? Just farm another one or play more attention next time.
People don't wanna take any risks nowdays and wanna enjoy a sense of false achievment. Win without the risks of loosing it's not winning, it's not achievment and it's not fun, it's just a ridicolous distraction and insult to your inteligence.
This is why i will play HC, a enviorment were people are actually playing a game.
Trying to troll maybe? Blizzard will make D3 plenty hard... If the target of your posts is to say how "hardcore" you are and how much of pussies other people are just because they think that having such item-stealers is totally idiotic and pointless then please take this somewhere else... And I think you take games a little too seriously talking about all those risks, false achievments, winnings and stuff like that I will enjoy my D3 to the maximum and won't worry about how "hardcore" I am in a game hahaha.
I'm far from a hardcore gamer. Actually i'm more casual then most people. I'm so casual that when i loose a character i don't feel sad i just laugh and think "it's just a game XD!" while most people cry and think "wow so much effort wasted...T.T".
Call me a troll, w/e. I just dislike the direction that games are getting nowdays. The dev's are always afraid of putting penalties in the games cause people take games to seriously and actully gets sad/stressed with those virtual loosses. Then you ask me, why you care about penalties so much ? Because i play games to have fun and without running risks games aren't fun for me.
Just to be clear, my Mimic would only steal items in your inventory and not what you're currently wearing. When I find a unique or set item, I would run back to town to stash it anyway.
Besides, the Mimic wouldn't disappear completely. All you have to do is hunt it down again and destroy it.

I play Diablo on hardcore too, I can stand losing my character due to my own fault, but losing an item because some stupid ass monster took it? That's something completely different.
Why is that so different ? When you die in Hc you loose a character and a whole set of items. The only diference is that in one case the penalty is bigger but the damage is lower.

Everything seemed clean that is unstained
