so, when i was watching the panels. and they were talking about the fury system. i heard that they plan on having a different system for each character.
so the barb has its fury, and another class will have a mana system. so what other systems will work with the other classes?
Well with the WD, I'd expect a soul system of sorts. Perhaps you gain "soul" from killing monsters, thus absorbing their souls to power the WD's spells.
And taking the whole "constant fucking action" approach that Blizz has been taking, I could easily see something like this being implemented.
With the Wiz, of course it's going to be flat out mana.
With the Monk.... hmm. Focus or something? Maybe he could regenerate "Focus" based on how heavily damaged he was, with more damage = less regen. This could work in with the monks trying to maintain a focused and calm mind in combat, and wounds/pain would take away from that focus, thus leading to slowed regeneration.
Thats how I think it's going to go down :D.

"One in every 10 million people can potentially have a headache from this pill." God forbid she is the 0.000000001% of having a headache.
Yeah, good point.
Hmm... well perhaps they could switch their systems so that they worked differently in PVP, perhaps just a flat regeneration when duelling so that all characters could use their spells at a relatively similar rate?

I doubt that they'll make a system function differently in pve than it does in pvp. There would be a lot of problems to resolve in implementing that, not to mention it would be really confusing, or poses the possibility to be confusing.
I personally think that mana is ok for the wizard and witch doctor. It makes sense for the melee classes to have a different system. Fury works really well with the barb, and I didn't notice that mana globes were dropping for the monk. This leads me to believe that it also uses fury or maybe another system.
It'd be cool if it's physical abilities didn't use a resource but it's holy magic abilities did for the monk.
I like the idea of the monk using focus. This word seems to fit him very very well. But what kind of system would it be? It would have to allow him to use his combos when he first starts fighting, maybe the more combos he finishes the more focus he regenerates? maybe this is too close to fury. I dont know, Im just brainstorming.
Also, what about mana potions? will there be fury potions? and potions for each character? this seems kinda weird...
As of right now, there are no more mana globes that drop. The red globes that drop replenish hp and mana. And as far as potions, I can't recall ever seeing a mana potion in any video so far.
I think regardless to whatever they call it, it will function similarly to mana. Even the barbs fury is being changed to work more like mana.

Is this a brand new change? I personally never heard about this. I was pretty sure only Wizards had a skill that made here drop mana globes, and WD was supposed to rely on soul harvest. Idk, maybe I got it all wrong. I really hope we can find out what the Monk uses tho.

There are no stupid questions, just a bunch of inquisitive idiots.
Yeah, I'd imagine they'd make potions for "spell points" in general, dunno why they'd only make potions that can be used by 3/5 or so classes. They could probably just call them "Energy potions" and be done with it. Energy seems general enough to be able to govern Fury, mana, and whatever mechanics we'll be getting for the other 3 classes.

Focus idea sounds cool. Maybe they could add a bonus to your focus *energy* when you pull of an effective combo that annihilates the enemies around you.
I think the monk will end up using mana just like the wizard and the WD. The reason the barb don't use it is because his the "magicless" class and it's not the monk case since he have Holy Spells.
I know what they said in the pannel, but i bet they will end up in something execly like mana, fury or wow's rogue energy (or a middle ground, like DK's runic power). However i believe they will save the "energy" to another magicless class.
I would really love to see what he is using at this point. Mana I assume, but just curious, maybe he has something we haven't seen yet. Hell, maybe someone will ask this in today's Q&A portion. I tried to Twitter a few questions to that guy on the Live Stream when he was talking to Jay Wilson, but Twitter is beyond me. I don't even know that I want to figure out how to work that now. Seems kinda wierd.
I do like that Chi idea however. Chi seems like it would fit him quite well. I don't know if it would just be another name for mana, or similar to an energy system, but Blizz would really have to work their asses off the make it work right. I still cant figure out how their current Fury system is going to make it into the box. Sure, they fixed how he plays in AoE combat, but how the hell are you supposed to fight bigger single targets? Just hope you can melee them to death? PvP for the Barb is starting to sound pretty lame. I am sure they are going to have to do something to fix that. Its funny too because basically they want to give the Barb almost unlimited energy, but without literally giving him unlimited energy. I don't think it can be done, but I hope they prove me wrong.

I didn't see it mentioned, but It was confirmed that there is currently a system in development to replace mana for the Monk. The Barb will use Fury (which is also in constant redesign), WD and Wizard will use Mana, and the Monk will use the new unreleased system. The 5th class... well who knows...
I hope it's called chi or spirit or something like that
The color yellow would look good, but I'm sure people would complain it's too much like the rogue in WoW.
I actually read another thread stating the Wizard will also have a different system. Not sure the validity of that, but I do know for sure the Monk will have a different system as I recall a Blizzard person stating that.

Hold on, let me go kill some monsters so we can duel.

it will give each character a different feeling. damn im excited for this game

at least so far ;3
but ya theyll prob make a system like the barb or the wizard that can be implemented easily in both pvp and pve
since if they implemented the previous it would cause a lot of unintended glitches most likely =3
i dont see why the monk wouldnt use fury either
as stated earlier with the barbarian even when a barbarian uses a skill that requires fury
the skill will in most cases fill it back up to use some of the weaker skills
and since the monk will prob be spamming his special attacks quite often they may implement that
but it would be kinda weird for a monk to use fury (mental and physical prowess while fury seems more like a physical simple minded kinda thing lol)
Be my Buddy =^.^=

The Monk should use Chi (Qi in Pinyin), because it is Chinese :/
Two Asian classes in D3... win?
