This place is definitely striking me as a Westmarch location. Perhaps not the capital itself, but maybe one of its prominent provinces. It would also seem like it could be the church in the D3 intro because of the gaping hole in the roof. But that building in the intro actually seemed a lot smaller than this main building shown here. And there is also just general decay all over the building.
But this building at the center really is quite large. Like have any of you ever been to Old Faithful in Yellowstone? It looks as big as that huge hotel they have there. But I do have to admit that the section of town across the river and to the right does seem somewhat like the remains of the original Tristram, thus where the New Tristram was built.
Definitely western. The rivers are similar to those in Tristram... but compared to that other concept art of Tristram, I don't think they are the same. The cathedral/church actually has more than one hole in the roof. And if the hole was from the meteor, the whole church would either be burning or have burnt down already.
Perhaps this is one of the other cities. Like Bramwell, or Westmarch itself. Its hard to tell, because we don't really have a good sense of how big capital cities are in this age. This could be classed as quite populated, or not so populated. Westmarch is populated, but Bramwell isn't. If this is Bramwell, then that would be the church of Dien-Ap-Sten, where Darrick Lang and his party came down from the mountains and destroyed the church.
I doubt it is Westmarch actually. Westmarch is said to have many mansions and a high defensive wall surrounding the city.
Well Caldeum itself is a pretty huge, yet centralized city. And it didn't even have an official form of government for a long time. It was more of a joint effort of guilds and businessman, and yet it seems pretty sophisticated. I'm convinced it's somewhere in Westmarch, but definitely not the capital. As for it being Tristram, obviously Tristram was always meant to be more than the eight or so buildings seed in the original Diablo, but I couldn't say it was ever this big either.
Ah yeah, that angle makes sense, Daemaro. Hmm, perhaps that is New Tristram. Except there are more trees in the other picture, though that can easily just be for effect.
Well it's FAIRLY new it's from 08' but yeah if you're up to date on this kinda stuff it's a little old, not everyone goes through like I do and scans everything when I'm bored though.

I guess it could just be design changes though, like you said.
Yeah I'm sure it is, and thinking about it nothing in D1 Tristram was on a mountain/hill/rise, or anything.
Maybe they just couldn't make it look right back then with that engine.
Now they can fully bring their vision to fruition.
That's kind of the point I was making about Tristram earlier. Was that obviously it wasn't meant to literally be eight shacks and a church and a couple of cows.
I already said this on the other update thread before this one was made, but that could be Tristram but in that case I'm wondering where the Caves are? They should be in the spot where the "new" buildings are located.
Btw, there's a hill fort in the distance and no sign of Adria's shack.
Adria's shack was just a shack. There wouldn't need to be any sign of it. I like the point about the caves. For all we know, they built this new structure on top of the cave entrance.
I really doubt there is really going to be any trace of Adria's shack. I do remember though how Cain talked about in D1 how she seemingly created the whole shelter overnight. Probably her magic holding it together.

Notice the angle I tried to display would correspond partially with the confirmed darker tristram picture.
There is also a spot for the well and the buildings in the back look like what may have used to be in d1 the small catacombs entrance near the cows.
Perhaps the buildings in the foreground are "new tristram"
Also I think it should be noted the Dark Tristram picture is from 08' and this one is 06' so who knows how their concept may have changed since then.

Hm, I could have sworn something like that was in there. I guess I was mistaken.
And it landed in Oz.
I swear they been changing text to mess with us. I've been unable to find lots of things I know I read before.
