Ive been a Hardcore player for a long time and loved that about diablo. With some of the press releases talking about environmental deaths and new game mechanics lets hear what you have to say about their new direction as it will impact your hardcore experience...
1. auto stat points
2. armor restrictions
3. no health/mana pots
[edit] 4. no unwilling hostilities (eliminates pking)

hardcore is gonna be REALLY hardcore now :P........I cant wait...I may even start hardcore only just to have a sick challenge for a first time playing the game
I think things like instant death and such that could be a result from environmental damage may be toned down or maybe carefully implemented for the hardcore players.....
I agree... all of these changes are actually appealing to the hardcore player, i really cant wait to get my hands on it. and honestly i havent met someone who has died to lag in hardcore... well at least not recently, now when the game first came out that was a different story lol (most of us had dial up back then). Honestly i had more respect for a legendary survivor in guild wars than i had a 99 HC player in diablo, because of the game balance guild wars had and D2 lacked... it seams they are bringing some of that into D3 though.

Ive met people who died to lag many times.....since a ton of my IRL friends palyed HC i saw them die it was funny cuz of lag
Best times were on dial up.....if one of em pissed u off....get online to make sure there in a baal run.....then call them on the phone at there house so it lags and they die LMFAO god that shit was funny
I played hc bymyself most of the time unless it was with people i knew... to many pks... its not the fact that i might die in a duel... its the fact that its an unfair match... ive dueld plenty on HC (with low lv chars that is)

I think anyone who disagrees about the auto stats thing doesn't understand the point of the stats in the first place. The stats were used to give customization, but basically it became cookie cutter and you did the same thing every time. The developers want it to be truly customizable, and stats is not an area that should be used to add to customization because in the end the same system is used over and over so they are focusing on different areas to customize it.

Man, I could never come up with something as evil as that.. They must've been really pissed off, huh? I bet that story is going to be told many times..:D
hahah oh yes.....the best time was when my buddies were leveling on hardcore together and sorta competing to get the highest level fastest.....man they were always calling each others houses it was halarious
It applies to the original post...i may have overlooked a few comments >.<

i dont mind all that but what will piss me off about hardcore is the boss finishers...there is no way to avoid that if u noticed that monster just picked up the barb and bit its head off...wtf can u do to that if u get picked up and die to that it would suck balls
HC is not the point of this game. They need to constuct the game in accordance to SC, and, frankly, the only reason HC even exists is because SC was always way too easy. HC is not really a challenge at all, in fact, it's mostly about doing the right cookie cutter build, using a few tips, and paying attention to the game. That's all you need to play HC. There is no playingskill involved, and perhaps D3 will change that, and just bashing people and consistenly drinking rejuvs will not be enough for survival.
seems like you and your friend have been used really strange modems.
lol
or each one of them had a really nasty mess of incorrect connected modem into duplex with telephone ( which is curious )
Might of been the wiring in the area(rural newfoundland) that caused this kinda crap....but it was back in the dial up days in the area...plus they had programs that booted them off the net when someone called
I hope so, but that's not really the point of HC for me. The point of HC is that there's a real incentive not to die and always be at the top of your game.
The point of HC is "the game is boring, let's make it harder". The thing is, I see a lot of HC players complain about SC getting harder, hence, HC getting harder, but a hard SC game would not allow HC to be possible. It would just take too much effort to never die in the SC game and HC would go away from too little players.
Why do you think most FPS and RPG don't have an HC mode? Not viable. Why does DII not have a save-load system? Because it can afford one.

Hmm.. I wonder how many people really had a belt full of rejuvs. Personally...
That wasn't my point. You just wrote a whole paragraph for nothing.
So what are you saying, they should make SC harder so there doesn't have to be a HC mode?
Pretty much. You should get that "kick" out of the SC rather than having to play HC to get it...
I was fine with SC in DI because there was a save&load system. Then came DII and had to ruin it.
I added a new line to the original post... no unwiling hostilities i think this will be a big significant change to Hardcore.. and as i said in one of my previous posts is why i played in private rooms or with just trusted friends.
To add to what some of you are saying about whats the point of HC and all... I think that if they dont include a HC mode they should at least include a Survivor system like in Guild Wars. This system included ranks in a survivor title track that when from rank 1 survivor to rank 15 legendary survivor... rank one was to get to max lvl without dying and then after that you could still earn exp but not lvl, so once you got to a certain amount of exp you got your r15 title. This is good cuz many of us hardcore people, even though we would like a death... lose our title track, and most likely end up deleting char and starting over anyway. but it would let us interact with all the players on b.net instead of just hc ones, which i think would put a new twist on player interaction between "soft" and "hard" core players.

your 123 isnt really facts..
1. ok yeah auto stat points, I don't see this affecting hardcore player, I have 0 hardcore characters that have been full vita or close to full vita and I've done just fine. Also we get so much skills enhancing our survival that it shouldn't be a problem. Like that barbarian skill that decreases damage taken by a lot if we are below 50% hp. There are many like this and also skills that enhance our Vitality, so 1 point of vitality actually would give more HP than normally.. and thats almost like putting points to vitality via stats.
2. I don't see how this affects to hardcore players.. and actually I haven't heard about restrictions.. sure strenght might be a restriction but why would you want to wear a Plate as a Wizard in a first place? The plate items probably have stats that Barbarians like more.. and cloth have stats that Wizards like more. At least I hope it is that way.
3. Again wrong. There will be mana and health potions but they are much more rare than in D2 and probably on some kind of cooldown. Imo it is really stupid system in D2 with the potion spamming which also makes BOT's life really easy as they can automaticly use potion when they lose health.
4. well yeah no PK but I don't see that affecting anyone else than the newbies, for those that know how to avoid them they are just an annoyance.
Personally, I love hardcore. When you fail, you FAIL, and that's it. I absolutely loathe the automatic distribution of attributes though, naturally. It's just another way to dumb down gameplay and save dumb people from themselves.
I don't think it will dumb down the game.. actually the new system seems even more complicated than old one. You have those passive skills that increase your offensive and defensive abilities a lot. You have to make tough decisions when building up your character.. if you are in HC you obviosly look for some nice balance between defense and offence abilities, if you are SC you can forget the defensiveness and go all out offensive abilities.
In D2 you have stats and quite simple skill system, everyone will get the idea of what is the most powerful thing to build up in no time, when in D3 I look at the skill trees I have no idea how would I put my skills, there are just so many different options atm. (yeah at least before I've played it long enough)
I must Agree with you akse i belive that D2 stat system is actually less complicated than the auto stat/passive skills enhancing stat system... and i too look at the skills in D3 for the barb and wizzard and am contemplating different strategies but i havent really gotten into the math i like to go for a story behind the char for my first one of each class (DnD player), then i go for the "best" builds... btw Im pretty sure (i could be mistakern) that i read no health/mana pots in d3... i did read we will get elixers and flasks but they will give buffs, but that they were infact getting away from health mana pots... please correct me if im wrong though
