I don't know about you guys but I enjoyed the crafting system in D2. I liked having to find all the certain pieces for the recipe and then creating a badass crafted ring / ammy / belt ETC. I think they should use something like this but make it more interesting.
Oh, they should definitely keep some form of a crafting system in there. The problem with the original one was that there were so few items even worth crafting. They need to make it a much more viable system by allow items which are actually useful either. I would suggest that they don't have the system be so restricted and allow a higher level of randomization in crafted items so that they function more like good to excellent rare items.
I think d2 crafting was ideal. Any other game that has tried to implement it has failed to, miserably, with crafted items being either too good, too bad, too prevalent, or not prevalent enough.
In d2, crafted items had the potential to be the absolute best for certain slots (pre 1.10 of course. I don't even consider 1.10 and after as diablo 2). The best possible ring, glove, and belt for a barb, for example, could be gained from crafting. But the immense rarity of such an amazing craft made it something difficult to do, but worth trying for.

They designed a new crafting system but don't want to share any info yet.
You make it sound like you have insider info, but I know you don't work for Blizzard...I haven't heard any info about crafting in D3, what's your source?

I don't have any insider info, Jay Wilson said that they made a new crafting system that has nothing to do with the cube but that they can't talk about it right now. On another two occasions Rob Pardo and Jay Wilson mentioned that the cube itself was interesting but a silly concept because it granted additional inventory space to the player and that they don't plan to include anything like that again.
Can't dig out the sources, but you can take my word for it. I barely ever miss any info or permute it.

For sure man it would be completely awesome if they up'd the amount of actual good items that could be crafted so it was used more... I like the idea about not making it so restricted to higher levels.. you never see a level 20 running around with some crafted items do ya?
I'd rather just find good loot. Maybe a limited amount of loot can do this, that would be cool. But recipes and stuff on a whole have a bizarre ‘Betty Crocker – Easy bake oven’ feel too it. If I was interested in recipes (like DSII over-killed) I would take a baking class so I could eat my recipes. I don't want to be chasing down ingredients, I do that at the grocery store.
i gotta say i never crafted, i tried it and thought it was mildly pointless so i didnt to it again, but if they make it better and you can craft better items then i would probably use it

Nothing like, uh, an item called "bag" that can be used to increase inventory space. Yeah, um...it's nothing like that at all...because we have seen those in D3 screen shots. I hope they are not really this out of touch.
Not to mention the new one-slot item inventory with auto-stacking. Like that doesn't increase effective inventory space.
They make it sound like the original inventory grid dimensions for Diablo 2 were a mathematical optimum and that adding a few additional slots ruined the game
Not at all, they said that they want to give the player legitimate means of expanding the inventory.
Because the cube did give you additional slots but made things even more complicated and tedious if you wanted to use the most of it. That's how I understand it anyway. Either way, the old cube is not making a comeback. Maybe something different, but not as a part of the crafting or inventory management system.
