I was just watching that gameplay trailer for the... well I have no idea what count I am at now. But anyway. In the very beginning with the goblins when the barbarian is just smoking them I starting looking at the health bars where the mouse was "mousing over" the enemies. Eventually its all I could see. When you actually look at the health bars they kind of really get in the way A LOT. I mean, to really see what i'm talking about for the threads benefit, go watch the video with the goblin part in the beginning and look for the health bars poping up. I mean it was like getting in the way really badly. Hopefully they can put an option in to toggle the bars on//off. or make them at the top of your screen like the boss fights. Cuz they were just in the way for me badly, it was like they were eating the screen lol I could not even see the barbarian most of the time, or the health orbs that were dropping because the bars were always covering them.
would be cool if they removed the healthbars and you'd have to figure out the monster's condition from its wounds.. like cuts, dripping blood, missing legs.....

or they could just put the health bars on the side somewhere or the top of the screen or something. Its just too much putting them right on your character. It would be cool if they added missing limbs and stuff and cuts but I think that might be too much burden on their engine. Considering they cant even deal with 3d corpses stickin around for a bit.

If you get personally attacked by letters through the internet its a good thing to always have a box of tissues and a band-aid around.
From what I saw from watching the first 5 minutes of the gameplay over again, you only see the red bar of what your mouse hovers over... one red bar isn't that big of a deal.

They already said they're going to fix that.
No, they said they were going to try other ways to implement it into the game. They never said they were going to make 3D corpses stick around because they said its too much work for the engine. "aka bloodstains" Or something 2d.

I dunno about the bars themselves, but hopefully normal enemies show signs of hurt (similar to 1000 pounder/color change when damaged).. Such as limbs falling off, slower walking, slower attacking...
Bosses should have it for sure, smaller would be nice though, looks pretty big. Maybe if it was a crescent shape turned sideways would be better than straight across? Hm.... I'm sure they'll figure out the best thing to do.
Wow. How much more nitpicky can you get? Blizzard has had a recent history of making the UI in games highly customizable. I'm PRETTY SURE this won't be a big deal.

not really nitpicky, considering you are looking at it 24/7 while playing the game. It is a big deal to me, considering I'll be looking at it, as everyone else will be also that thinks its annoying. If you dont like the thread then don't post in it ...

No, it's pretty nitpicky. And if you have any logic, you can safely assume it's not something that you can't turn off. It's Blizzard! These guys made WOW! You can turn stuff off in WOW, you know!
And don't tell me what thread I can or can't post in. If I have an opinion about the subject (that it's nitpicky) then I'll give it to you. If you don't like it, then don't bother responding.
i think Blizzard already talked about these health bars (not sure in which interview, though, theres been too many lately).
what i remember of it (that i also agree on) is that these small health bars are for the smaller enemies. The barbarian that simply hacked his way through the ghouls on the demo video was of higher level, considering its a starting area and he had too many skills used up already. Having a health bar for each enemy that appears when you mouse-over him is very good to give you a clue about how hard to hit (as in skills to use) and to which target. Bosses will keep having a big one on top of the screen (which would be impractical for the lesser ones, because its better to look at the enemies, not on top of the screen) and will also have visuals for their damage taken (thats according to Jay Wilson i think).
I'd say that the main reason for placing Health Bars right above monsters is really to keep the player's attention in where the battle takes place. What I mean is that sometimes people use to stare the health bars and watch them get shorter instead of paying attention to the actual fight... so they said "Okay, if all the attention is on the health bar, we'll bring the health bar to the battlefield" and as for the boss fights, keep the bars at the top because a tall monster will likely have it's health bar beyond the screen and we have to let the player see it all the time... plus they won't vanish if you don't have your cursor on the boss to make it visible even if some of your actions don't involve clicking the boss. I think health bars above regular monsters is no big deal... maybe have them less intense... half transparent and smaller.
Oh, you mean the Jay Kratos one? I took it off... it just didn't feel right to reply what he's saying and make a mockery of him at the same time, although it's all fun and games ^^ I'm photoshoping some more Diablo III stuff so I might post them all at once soon.
Anyway in order not to make this completely off topic, I just realized that the monster health bar really helps indicating wether you're targeting it or not (I say that from experience from other games. Trust me, it helps). There was no targeting problems in boss fights because they were all so big it was easy to target them... but when fighting normal sized bosses you can sometimes miss a click!
Heed my words. I bet a 100$ that the health bars will NOT stay the same for both bosses and monsters.
i completely agree they need to get rid of them

About 5 minutes in.
Corpses now disappear after you reach a certain number and don't fade out until you leave the screen.
So like if the corpse max is 30 and you kill 30, there will be 30 on your screen until you leave the screen.

Hungry? Why Wait? Grab a Barbarian!

Actually it seems they're different already. The Assault Beast and Thousand Pounder's health bars are at the top.
If that's what you meant.
